The Resolving Method of Graft-Tunnel Mismatch in Arthroscopic ACL Reconstruction Using Bone-Patellar Tendon-Bone Graft (골-슬개건-골을 이용한 관절경적 전방십자인대 재건술시 이식물-터널 길이의 부조화를 줄이는 방법)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to prevent thc graft-tunnel mismatch by measuring the patellar tendon length, intertunnel distance, tibial tunnel length and by obtaining appropriate bone block length. Materials and Methods : Authors analyzed 15 patients who had taken the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction from March 1997 to June 1999. Tibial guide was always set on the "endo" $40^{\circ}$ position(Acufex, MA, USA). We measured the following indices, intertunnel distance(X), tibial tunnel length(T), patellar tendon length(N), tibia bone plug length(Y). Both of the femoral tunnel length(F) and the patellar bone plug length(P) were made in 25mm. The appropriate tibial bone plug length was simply calculated by subtracting the patellar tendon length from the sum of the intertunnel distance and thc tibial tunnel length(Y=X+T-N). Results : The average indices were as follows ; the intertunnel distance(X) was $23.4{\pm}1.4mm$, the tibial tunnel length(T) was $43.6{\pm}1.7mm$, the patellar tendon length was $40{\pm}2.4mm$, and the tibia bone plug length was $27{\pm}2.4mm$. Conclusion : In authors' endoscopic technique, establishment of individually determined optimal tibial bone plug length, based on total tunnel length and patellar tendon length could prevent the problem of graft-tunnel mismatch.

Lossy Source Compression of Non-Uniform Binary Source via Reinforced Belief Propagation over GQ-LDGM Codes

  • In this letter, we consider the lossy coding of a non-uniform binary source based on GF(q)-quantized low-density generator matrix (LDGM) codes with check degree $d_c$=2. By quantizing the GF(q) LDGM codeword, a non-uniform binary codeword can be obtained, which is suitable for direct quantization of the non-uniform binary source. Encoding is performed by reinforced belief propagation, a variant of belief propagation. Simulation results show that the performance of our method is quite close to the theoretic rate-distortion bounds. For example, when the GF(16)-LDGM code with a rate of 0.4 and block-length of 1,500 is used to compress the non-uniform binary source with probability of 1 being 0.23, the distortion is 0.091, which is very close to the optimal theoretical value of 0.074.

  • In this paper, to improve the efficiency of pressurized pneumatic grit conveying for ship block open blasting process. Pressurized pneumatic grit conveying is defined as the transportation of grit(abrasive) in a compressed air flow. Total Pressure loss in flexible hose for pneumatic conveying is sum of pressure losses due to gas and grit and needle type pressure transmitter for measured pressure loss. haracteristics of grit open blasting by pneumatic conveying were studied experimentally. Studies variables were blasting nozzle ID, length and ID of flexible hose, grit flow rate, flow rate and pressure of transport air. It was experimentally proved that optimal open blasting condition and cost effective operation regarding grit blasting, obtaining a high qulity surface preparation(Sa $2^{\frac{1}{2}}$).

Analysis of Radiation Field and Block Pattern for Optimal Size in Multileaf Collimator (치료조사면 및 블록 유형분석을 통한 적정 다엽 콜리메이터 규모에 관한 연구)

  • The patterns of the conventional radiation treatment fields and their shielding blocks are analysed to determine the optimal dimension of the MultiLeaf Collimator (MLC) which is considered as an essential tool for conformal therapy. Total 1109 radiation fields from 303 patients (203 from Asan Medical center, 50 from Baek Hosp and 50 from Hanyang Univ. Hosp.) were analysed for this study. Weighted case selection treatment site (from The Korean Society of Therapeutic Radiology 1993). Ninety one percent of total fields have shielding blocks. Y axis is defined as leaf movement direction and it is assumed that MLC is installed on the cranial-caudal direction. The length of X axis were distributed from 4cm to 40cm (less than 21cm for $95\%$ of cases), and Y axis from 5cm to 38cm (less than 22cm for $95\%$ of cases). The shielding blocks extended to less than 6cm from center of the field for $95\%$ of the cases. Start length for ninety five percent of block is less than 10cm for X axis and 11cm for Y axis. Seventy six percent of shielding blocks could be placed by either X or Y axis direction, $7.9\%$ only by Y axis, $5.1\%$ only by X axis and It is reasonable to install MLC for Y direction. Ninety five percent of patients can be treated with coplanar rotation therapy without changing the collimator angle. Eleven percent of cases of cases were impossible to replace with MLC. Futher study of shielding technique is needed for $11\%$ impossible cases. The treatment field dimension of MLC should be larger than $21cm{\times}22cm$. The MLC should be designed as a pair of 21 leaves with 1cm wide for an acceptable resolution and 17cm long to enable the leaf to overtravel at least 6cm from the treatment field center.

  • This paper describes an analysis of the decoding performance and decoding convergence speed of layered LDPC(low-density parity-check) decoder for mobile WiMAX system, and the optimal design conditions for hardware implementation are searched. A fixed-point model of LDPC decoder, which is based on the min-sum algorithm and layered decoding scheme, is implemented and simulated using Matlab model. Through fixed-point simulations for the block lengths of 576, 1440, 2304 bits and the code rates of 1/2, 2/3A, 2/3B, 3/4A, 3/4B, 5/6 specified in the IEEE 802.16e standard, the effect of internal bit-width, block length and code rate on the decoding performance are analyzed. Simulation results show that fixed-point bit-width larger than 8 bits with integer part of 5 bits should be used for acceptable decoding performance.

Influence of complex geological structure on horizontal well productivity of coalbed methane

  • Complex geological conditions have a great influence on the mining of coalbed methane (CBM), which affects the extraction efficiency of CBM. This investigation analyzed the complicated geological conditions in the Liujia CBM block of Fuxin. A geological model of heterogeneities CBM reservoirs was established to study the influence of strike direction of igneous rocks and fault structures on horizontal well layout. Subsequently, the dual-porosity and dual-permeability mathematical model was established, which considers the dynamic changes of porosity and permeability caused by gas adsorption, desorption, pressure change. The results show that the production curve is in good agreement with the actual by considering gas seepage in matrix pores in the model. Complicated geological structures affect the pressure expansion of horizontal wells, especially, the closer to the fault structure, the more significant the effect, the slower the pressure drop, and the smaller the desorption area. When the wellbore extends to the fault, the pressure expansion is blocked by the fault and the productivity is reduced. In the study area, the optimal distance to the fault is 70 m. When the horizontal wellbore is perpendicular to the direction of coal seam igneous rock, the productivity is higher than that of parallel igneous rock, and the horizontal well bore should be perpendicular to the cleat direction. However, the well length is limited due to the dense distribution of igneous rocks in the Liujia CBM block. Therefore, the horizontal well pumping in the study area should be arranged along the direction of igneous rock and parallel plane cleats. It is found that the larger the area surrounded by igneous rock, the more favorable the productivity. In summary, the reasonable layout of horizontal wells should make full use of the advantages of igneous rock, faults and other complex geological conditions to achieve the goal of high and stable production.

  • Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted relay has the advantages of ease of deployment, good communication channels, and mobility over traditional terrestrial relay, which greatly improves wireless connectivity. In this paper, we design a UAV-enabled relay network that can utilize radio frequency bands to harvest energy from sources and utilize terahertz (THz) bands to transmit information between secondary transmitters and receivers. Next, we solve the optimal position of the UAV that maximizes the relay channel capacity, and propose an algorithm to design two trajectories of UAV (a straight and an elliptical trajectory) using the derived solution. Numerical results show that the straight trajectory is better in terms of harvested energy and channel capacity.

  • In this paper, BER performance of LDPC(Low-Density Parity-Check) decoder for WiMAX is analyzed, and optimal design conditions of LDPC decoder are derived. The min-sum LDPC decoding algorithm which is based on an approximation of LLR sum-product algorithm is modeled and simulated by Matlab, and it is analyzed that the effects of LLR approximation bit-width and maximum iteration cycles on the bit error rate(BER) performance of LDCP decoder. The parity check matrix for IEEE 802.16e standard which has block length of 2304 and code rate of 1/2 is used, and AWGN channel with QPSK modulation is assumed. The simulation results show that optimal BER performance is achieved for 7 iteration cycles and LLR bit-width of (8,6).

  • In this paper, the effects of LLR (Log-Likelihood Ratio) approximation on LDPC (Low-Density Parity-Check) decoder performance are analyzed, and optimal design conditions of LDPC decoder are derived. Linewidth Reduction of a Yellow Laser by a Super-cavity and the Measurement of the Cavity Finesse (초공진기를 이용한 노란색 레이저의 선폭 축소 및 초공진기의 예리도 측정)

  • Sum frequency generation was utilized to obtain a yellow laser with the wavelength of 578.4 nm for a probe laser of an Yb lattice clock. The output of an Nd:YAG laser with wavelength of 1319 nm and that of an Yb-fiber laser with wavelength of 1030 nm were passed through a waveguided periodically-poled lithium niobate (WG-PPLN) for sum frequency generation. It is required that the probe laser has a linewidth of the order of 1 Hz to fully resolve the Yb lattice clock transition. Thus, the linewidth of the probe laser was reduced by stabilizing the frequency to a super-cavity. This was made of ULE with a low thermal expansion coefficient, and was mounted on an active vibration-isolation table at the optimal point for the reduced sensitivity to vibration. Also, this was installed in a vacuum chamber, and the temperature was stabilized to 1 mK level. This system was installed in an acoustic enclosure to block acoustic noise. The finesse of the super-cavity was measured to be 380 000 from the photon life time of the cavity.
