Characterization of directional coupling optical switch at High frequency (고주파에서 방향성결합형 광 스위치의 출력 특성변화)

  • Directional coupling optical switch which on the LiNbO$_3$ substrate is fabricated by using proton exchange method and self-aligned method. Proton exchange of proton diffusion method was applied to pattern a waveguide on LiNbO$_3$ substrate. The annealing at 400[$^{\circ}C$] was caroled out to control waveguide width and depth. The process of proton exchange was done at 150[$^{\circ}C$] for 120[min], 200[$^{\circ}C$] for 60[min] and annealing process was done at 400[$^{\circ}C$] for 90[min], 400[$^{\circ}C$] for 60[min]. The high speed directional coupling optical switch has very good figures of merits:the measured high frequency power were achieved.

Compact and Temperature Independent Electro-optic Switch Based on Slotted Silicon Photonic Crystal Directional Coupler

  • In this paper, we have proposed a principle to design a compact and temperature independent electro-optic switch based on a slotted photonic crystal directional coupler (SPCDC). Infiltration of the slotted silicon photonic crystal with polymer enhances the slow light and decreases the switching length, whereas the different signs of thermo-optic coefficients of the polymer and silicon make the proposed switch stable within $25^{\circ}C$ to $85^{\circ}C$ temperature range. The SPCDC structure is modified to increase poling efficiency of the polymer in the slot and to flatten the dispersion diagram of the even mode to minimize the switching length.

  • A laterally driven electromagnetic microactuator (LaDEM) is presented, and a micro-optical switch is designed and fabricated as a possible application. LaDEM provides parallel actuation of the microactuator to the silicon substrate surface (in-plane mode) by the Lorentz force. Poly-silicon-on-insulator (Poly-SOI) wafers and a reactive ion etching (RIE) process were used to fabricate high-aspect-ratio vertical microstructures, which allowed the equipment of a vertical micro mirror. A fabricated arch-shaped leaf spring has a thickness of $1.8{\mu}m$, width of $16{\mu}m$, and length of $800{\mu}m$. The resistance of the fabricated structure fer the optical switch was approximately 5$\Omega$. The deflection of the leaf springs increases linearly up to about 400 mA and then it demonstrates a buckling behavior around the current value. Owing to this nonlinear phenomenon, a large displacement of $60{\mu}m$ could be measured at 566 mA. The displacement-load relation and some dynamic characteristics are analyzed using the finite element simulations.

Proposal of optical subscriber access network using optical CDMA method with optical switches (광 스위치를 이용한 광 CDMA 방식에 의한 광 가입자 액세스 망의 제안)

  • In this paper, we propose the ATM based Passive Optical Network (PON) using the optical CDMA scheme with optical switches and PN codes in time domain. We also propose the bipolar optical receiving correlator for PN codes. As optical CDMA is performed by driving directly an optical switch on-off switching with PN codes, the number of distinct code sequences can be increased and the flexibility in assigning PN codes can be improved. Finally we theoretically analyze the signal-to-interference -plus-noise ratio and the bit error probability of regenerated signal and compare the performance of proposed scheme compared with ATM based PON using conventional optical CDMA with optical delay lines.

  • The experimental optical cross-connect based on delivery and coupling switch features all-optical property. It consists of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, arrayedwaveguide gratings, optical switches and optical combiners. In 4 channel wavelength division multiplexing with 1.6 nm spacing, the difference in power level among channels for output signals from the optical cross-connect was within 2 dB.

  • 현재 발표된 공간 광스위치 구조들은 전자 스위치 및 전자 통신 분야에서 많이 이용된 Clos, Benes, Banyan, omega, shuffle network 등을 directional coupler switch, TIR(total internal reflection) switch, cross X switch 등 여러가지 단위 광스위치를 이용하여 고안한 것으로 서로 다른 장단점을 갖고 있다. 따라서 4 X 4나 8 X 8, 또는 그 이상의 확장된 광스위치를 제작하기 위해서는 이러한 기존 구조에 대한 조사 및 분석이 선행되어야 한다. 본 논문은 현재 개발되어 발표된 광스위치의 구조들을 조사하여 특성을 비교하였다.
