The pitch and orthogonality of two-dimensional (2D) gratings have been measured by using a metrological atomic force microscope (MAFM) and measurement uncertainty has been analyzed. Gratings are typical standard artifacts for the calibration of precision microscopes. Since the magnification and orthogonality in two perpendicular axes of microscopes can be calibrated simultaneously using 2D gratings, it is important to certify the pitch and orthogonality of 2D gratings accurately for nano-metrology using precision microscopes. In the measurement of 2D gratings, the MAFM can be used effectively for its nanometric resolution and uncertainty, but a new measurement scheme was required to overcome some limitations of current MAFM such as nonnegligible thermal drift and slow scan speed. Two kinds of 2D gratings, each with the nominal pitch of 300 nm and 1000 nm, were measured using line scans for the pitch measurement of each direction. The expanded uncertainties (k = 2) of measured pitch values were less than 0.2 nm and 0.4 nm for each specimen, and those of measured orthogonality were less than 0.09 degree and 0.05 degree respectively. The experimental results measured using the MAFM and optical diffractometer were coincident with each other within the expanded uncertainty of the MAFM. As a future work, we also proposed another scheme for the measurements of 2D gratings to increase the accuracy of calculated peak positions.

In order to use coal tar pitch (CTP) as a raw material for carbon fibers, it should have suitable properties such as a narrow range of softening point, suitable viscosity and uniform optical properties. In this study, raw CTP was modified by heat treatment with three types of polymer additives (PS, PET, and PVC) to make a spinnable pitch for carbon fibers. The yield, softening point, C/H ratio, insoluble yield, and meso-phase content of various modified CTPs with polymer additives were analyzed by changing the type of polymer additive and the heat treatment temperature. The purpose of this study was to compare the properties of CTPs modified by polymer addition with those of a commercial CTP. After the pitch spinning, the obtained green fibers were stabilized and carbonized. The properties of the respective fibers were analyzed to compare their uniformity, diameter change, and mechanical properties. Among three polymer additives, PS220 and PET261 pitches were found to be spinnable, but the carbon fibers from PET261 showed mechanical properties comparable with those of a commercial CTP produced by an air-blowing method (OCI284). The CTPs modified with polymer additive had higher ${\beta}$-resin fractions than the CTP with only thermal treatment indicating a beneficial effect of carbon fiber application.
Modified pitch A (MPA) and modified pitch B (MPB) were prepared by oxidative polymerization and thermal polycondensation reaction with refined pitch as the raw material, respectively. The toluene soluble components (TS-1 and TS-2) were obtained by solvent extraction from MPA and MPB, separately. The Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose method were used to calculate the pyrolysis activation energy of TS. The Satava-Sestak method was used to investigate the pyrolysis kinetic parameters of TS. Moreover, the optical microstructure of the thermal conversion products (TS-1-P and TS-2-P) by calcination shows that TS-1-P has more contents of mosaic structure and lower contents of fine fiber structure than TS-2-P. The research result obtained by a combination of X-ray diffraction and the curve-fitting method revealed that the ratios of ordered carbon crystallite (Ig) in TS-1-P and TS-2-P were 0.3793 and 0.4417, respectively. The distributions of carbon crystallite on TS-1-P and TS-2-P were calculated by Raman spectrum and curve-fitting analysis. They show that the thermal conversion product of TS-2 has a better graphite crystallite structure than TS-1.
A new hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) capable of exhibiting reflection colours in the temperature ranges of about 60-$130^{\circ}C$ and acrylic acid esters of HPC (ESs) with degree of esterification (DE) ranging from 1 to 3 were synthesized. The crosslinked ES films with the optical pitch ($\lambda_m$) ranging throughout the visible region were also prepared by exposing thermotropic cholesteric phases of ESs with a DE of more than 2 to UV light at $50^{\circ}C$. The thermal and optical properties for both the uncrosslinked and crosslinked samples and the swelling behavior of the crosslinked films in acetone were investigated. The $\lambda_m$'s of ESs, as well as HPC itself, increased with temperature. However, the $\lambda_m$'s of ESs were larger than of HPC at the same temperature and decreased with increasing DE. The temperature dependence of $\lambda_m$of the crosslinked samples was much weaker than that of ESs. Moreover, in contrast with ESs that exhibit a decrease of the isotropization temperature with increase in the DE, the networks were found to decompose at about $210^{\circ}C$, giving no transition to an isotropic state. The crosslinked samples exhibited an anisotropic swelling, suggesting that the two-dimensional crosslinking preferentially performs between ES molecules.

We demonstrated an effective way of preparing melt spinnable mesophase pitches via catalytic hydrogenation of petroleum residue (fluidized catalytic cracking-decant oil) and their subsequent thermal soaking. The mesophase pitches thus obtained were analyzed in terms of their viscosity, elemental composition, solubility, molecular weight, softening point and optical texture. We found that zeolite-induced catalytic hydrogenation under high hydrogen pressure contributed to a large variation in the properties of the pitches. As the hydrogen pressure increased, the C/H ratio decreased, and the solubility in n-hexane increased. The mesophase pitch with entirely anisotropic domains of flow texture exhibited good meltspinnability. The mesophase carbon fibers obtained from the catalytically hydrogenated petroleum residue showed moderate mechanical properties.

Temperature variation happens in micro prism roll mold processing system during machining the prism pattern roll mold using manufacturing optical films of LCD (liquid crystal display). This temperature variation induces pitch errors of the prism patterns. The temperature variation displaces the positions of the diamond cutting tool on the roll which was coated by the copper. In order to prevent the pitch errors, the stabilizing the temperature of machining environment is needed. Therefore, the researching on the temperature variation of the ultra-precision roll mold processing system on the machining of micro prism rot 1 mold is needed. In this paper, the temperature variation of micro prism roll mold processing system is researched, the influence is analyzed, and the study for reducing the pitch errors carried out.
Taguchi’s experimental design was employed in the melt spinning of molten mesophase pitch to produce carbon fibers. The textures of the obtained carbon fibers were radial with varied crack angles, as observed by scanning electron microscopy and polarized optical imaging. The diameter, crack angle, preferred orientation, and tensile modulus of the produced samples were examined to investigate the influence of four spinning variables. The relative importance of the variables has been emphasized for each characteristic. The results show that thicker carbon fiber can be obtained with a smaller entry angle, a higher spinning temperature, a reduced winding speed, and an increased extrusion pressure. The winding speed was found to be the most significant factor in relation to the fiber diameter. While it was observed that thicker carbon fiber generally shows improved preferred orientation, the most important variable affecting the preferred orientation was found to be the entry angle. As the entry angle decreased from 120° to 60°, the shear flow was enhanced to induce more ordered radial alignment of crystallite planes so as to obtain carbon fibers with a higher degree of preferred orientation. As a consequence, the crack angle was increased, and the tensile modulus was improved.
Analyzing baseball games using sensors such as radars or riders is expensive. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to detect pitch shots and hit shots using baseball video and to generate ball trajectories within hit shots using camera movement. After the pitch shot and the hit shot detection using object detection and optical flow, we generate the transformation relationship between frames and ball locations in the frame, and calculates the ball trajectory. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated for three KBO baseball video sequences, and the detection accuracy and detection rate of pitch shot and hit shot were within 89-95 [%], and the average error for shot range was 13.6[m], The direction error was 7.5° and foul classification accuracy was 98.6%.

This paper presents a new approach to control of stable motion of single wheel driving robot system of a pitch that is controlled by an in-wheel motor and a roll that is controlled by a reaction wheel. This robot doesn'thave any actuator for a yaw axis control, which makes the derivation of the dynamics relatively simple. The Lagrange equations was applied to derive the dynamic equations of the one wheel driving robot to implement the dynamic speed control of the mobile robot. To achieve the real time speed control of the unicycle robot, the sliding mode control and optical regulator are utilized to prove the reliability while maintaining the desired speed tracking performance. In the roll controller, the sigmoid-function based robust controller has been adopted to reduce the vibration by the situation function. The optimal controller has been implemented for the pitch control to drive the unicycle robot to follow the desired velocity trajectory in real time using the state variables of pitch angle, angular velocity, angle and angular velocity of the driving wheel. The control performance of the control systems from a single dynamic model has been illustrated by the real experiments.
We propose a method to synthesize a color non-hogel-based computer-generated-hologram (CGH) from light field data of a three-dimensional scene with a hologram pixel pitch shared for all color channels. The non-hogel-based CGH technique generates a continuous wavefront with arbitrary carrier wave from given light field data by interpreting the ray angle in the light field to the spatial frequency of the plane wavefront. The relation between ray angle and spatial frequency is, however, dependent on the wavelength, which leads to different spatial frequency sampling grid in the light field data, resulting in color aberrations in the hologram reconstruction. The proposed method sets a hologram pixel pitch common to all color channels such that the smallest blue diffraction angle covers the field of view of the light field. Then a spatial frequency sampling grid common to all color channels is established by interpolating the light field with the spatial frequency range of the blue wavelength and the sampling interval of the red wavelength. The common hologram pixel pitch and light field spatial frequency sampling grid ensure the synthesis of a color hologram without any color aberrations in the hologram reconstructions, or any loss of information contained in the light field. The proposed method is successfully verified using color light field data of various test or natural 3D scenes.
