The mode spot size is a fundamental parameter of a single mode optical fibre which determines especially the spilces and the microbending loss. The spot-size measurement is recognised to be a useful mean to define the cut-off wavelength of single-mode fibres, ESI parameters and to predict the modal dispersion. To determine the ESI parameters, this paper is based on the use of a Ronchi ruling.

Computer vision system is broadly adapted like as autonomous vehicle system, product line inspection, etc., because it has merits which can deal with environment flexibly. However, for applying it for that industry, it has to clear the problem that recognize position parameter of itself. So that computer vision system stands in need of camera calibration to solve that. Camera calibration consists of the intrinsic parameter which describe electrical and optical characteristics and the extrinsic parameter which express the pose and the position of camera. And these parameters have to be reorganized as the environment changes. In traditional methods, however, camera calibration was achieved at off-line condition so that estimation of parameters is in need again. In this paper, we propose a method to the calibration of camera using line correspondence in image sequence varied environment. This method complements the corresponding errors of the point corresponding method statistically by the extraction of line. The line corresponding method is strong by varying environment. Experimental results show that the error of parameter estimated is within 1% and those is effective.

In this paper, a magneto-optic modulator has been designed by using single crystal BSO and polycrystal ZnSe as Faraday cells. And practical core-type optical current sensors using pure iron and permalloy have been prepared and experimented. In order to obtain efficient magnetic field detection, LED(NEC OD08358, 0.87 $\mu$m) was used as optical source, PIN-PD(OD-8454)as optical receiver and multi-mode optical fiber (100/140$\mu$m) as transmission line. The characteristics matrix of the optical element was calculated by Stokes parameter, and optic modulation characteristics equations were derived by Muller matrix. Electromagnetic analysis program (FLUX 2D, micro VAX 3600) by finite element method was used to find the magnetic flux density around the core. The measuring error of the output voltage to input current has been masured below 5% in the range of 50A to 1000A. As the temperature was changed from -20$^{\circ}C$ to 60$^{\circ}C$, the maximum measurement error of the optical output has been found to be 0.5% at 60$^{\circ}C$. These experimental results show good temperature and linearity characteristics. The SNR of the overall system was 47dB in case of 600A (250.2 Oe) conductor current and the system has good noise immunity.
Large area infrared surveys are often accompanied with follow-up optical spectroscopic surveys that has a significant legacy value even for other areas of research. Using these spectral database, we have performed a search for MgII absorption lines in the optical spectrum of background quasar. Over the ~4deg2 of AKARI North Ecliptic Pole survey field and Spitzer First Look Survey field, 18 and 16 MgII absorber systems are identified respectively. The redshift range for the background quasars was 1.0<$z_{qso}$<3.4, while the redshift range for the absorber was 0.6<$z_{abs}$<1.6. Galaxies responsible for MgII absorptions are identified in the deep optical images (CFHT r-band), yet the identification still remains ambiguous for 60% of the systems due to the limited image depth and the source crowdedness. The impact parameter ranges 20-60kpc, and the rest-frame equivalent width of MgII absorption ranges $0.7-4{\AA}$. The most critical part in the identification of MgII absorber galaxies is the existence of deep optical images in addition to the high S/N quasar spectrum with R>3000.
In this paper, based on an extended model containing correlator and soft decision decoding, the capacity is evaluated in the single-user case when the inputs are equiprobable. With this method, we adjusted optical communication over AWGN. It is found that only when bit- signal-to-noise ratio (bit-SNR) is high enough, larger M leads to higher capacity; and for a specific M, the optimal values of PPM time offset parameter Td, which maximize the capacity, are independent of bit-SNR. In this paper, the capacity of UWB system in optical fiber over AWGN is proven to improve 1.73 times larger than AWGN channel Capacity.

Optical tables provide a platform for the establishment and test of measurement systems which use Laser. Therefore, not only static characteristics such as surface flatness, static stiffness and etc. but dynamic response characteristics is very important design parameter. The dynamic stiffness is generally estimated through the modal test, and compliance is used as a representative performance standard. Recently there is an example of defining the dynamic deflection coefficient and using it as a new performance standard of the dynamic stiffness, but it is not generalized yet in industry. In this study, we verify the validity of existing DDC calculus by making an experiment on granite. And for improvement in damping performance of optical tables, we are going to evaluate the effect of fillers on the compliance, then develop an epoxy adhesive based on the result of this experiment.

This paper proposes a new and simple input prediction method for robust servo system. A robust tracking control system for optical disk drives was proposed recently based on both Coprime Factorization (CF) and Zero Phase Error Tracking (ZPET) control. The CF control system can be designed simply and systematically. Moreover, this system has not only stability but also robustness to parameter uncertainties and disturbance rejection capability. Since optical disk tracking servo system can detect only tracking error, it was proposed that the reference input signal for ZPET could be estimated from tracking errors. In this paper, we propose a new control structure for the ZPET controller. It requires less memory than the previously proposed method for the reference signal generation. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed method is effective.
This paper presents actuating characteristics of an asymmetric high-speed optical pick-up fine actuator that can be installed in a small area such as a notebook personal computer. In the asymmetric actuator four points (mass center, actuation center, supporting point of wire suspension on a bobbin, and optical axis) are not coincident so that the proposed actuator suspension reveals undesirable suspension resonance in the pitch and yaw direction. Lumped parameter dynamic model in each direction is used to investigate the driving characteristics with respect to relative location of the four points. Some of desired design directions toward reducing resonance peaks are suggested by using sensitivity information. In order to avoid undesirable resonance, at least supporting point on the obbin must be located in the middle of the mass and actuation center of the asymmetric pick-up actuator.

This study is on the precision of the optical scanner which is suitable for shape modeling and non-contact equipment, comparing with a razer scanner. The optical scanner not only has all merits that non-contact methods have but also improve a veil phenomenon which is a razer scanner's demerits. However, the optical scanner has not been used extensively because the measurements are not very precise and there are not the definite methods of measurements, Hence, this study is to find out how parameters such as camera's hight, angle, luminous intensity, distance to object, and so on have an influence on measuring using the optical scanner and to establish the methods of measuring precision.

Nowadays optical disc drives have become necessary. As the equipment is popular to use, competition of price and rotating rate have been harder and harder. Shock response analysis for the optical disk drives is rarely studied. In this paper the optical disk drive has 5-DOF system and each motion is presented by using Lagrange Equation. As the motion of the Pick up lens is important to read and write data, it needs to consider the pickup and disk. The lumped parameter model is compared with finite element model in order to make sure of the result. Results of the shock response analysis from various shock inputs are gotten.
