자유공간 광 연결과 병렬 형태의 패킷을 이용한 ATM 교환 방식 (The ATM Switching Architecture using Free-Space Optical Interconnections and Packets with a Parallel Form)

  • Despite recent advances in electrical switch architectures, the practical switch performance is limited by both the technological and physical constraints of electrical device and wiring. Though an optical switch can have good features, optical devices are of poor quality. Therefore, we propose and study the switching architecture based on free-space optical interconnections and electrical logic devices. And an exchanging method using packets with a parallel form is introduced to solves the blocking problem of the switch that resulted from switching packets with a serial form. The free-space optical interconnections overcome the defects of electrical switch, such as, the complex connections of the wires. The proposed and demonstrated switch is nonblocking, simple and high performable. Other attractive features of the proposed switch include the guarantee of first-in first-out packet sequence. In this thesis, we also discuss the performance of proposed switch and show the experimental results of the 4$\times$4 switch.

  • For massicely parallel optical interconnections, we propose three types of planar optical configurations for crossover photonic switching netweek, backboard optical signal distribution, and high speed packet address detection. The planar overalsy allow 2-D pixel arrays located on a wafer scale intergated circuit to be interconnected in a compact and vibrationally robust configuration. By the laser writing technique surface relief of microopical Fresnel lenses and multiplex gratigs used in the planar optics are successfully fabricated.

  • Optical interconnections are more attractive than electronic interconnections because of their higher speed, freedom from planar constraints, immunity to electromagnetic interference effects and higher interconnection capacity. Volume hologram is one of the best way to implement optical interconnections. Diffraction efficiency and crosstalk effect are very important things for ensuring independent interconnections. Recently, a general systematic method that can handle a large number of superposed volume gratings in anisotropic host material is presented. In this study for numerical analysis of diffraction, above method is programmed in general form near Bragg angle. Diffraction orders for variation of grating strength are determined by comparing with the coupled-mode method. The effects of parameter variation are considered. Parameters include vertical and azimuthal incident angle, wavelength and interaction length. Diffraction analyses are also performed for intra-mode and inter-mode diffractions.

Parallel 3-dimensional optical interconnections using liquid crystal devices for B-ISDN electronic switching systems

  • In this paper, we propose a system design for a parallel3-dimensional optical interconnection network utilizing variable grating mode liquid crystal devices (VGM LCD's) which are optical transducers capable of performing intensity-to-spatial-frequency conversion. The proposed system performs real-time, reconfigurable, but blocking and nonbroadcasting 3-dimensional optical interconnections. The operating principles of the 3-D optical interconnection network are described, and some of the fundamental limitations are addressed. The system presented in this paper can be directly used as a configuration of switching elements for the 2-D optical perfect-shuffle dynamic interconnection network, as well as for a B-ISDN photonic switching system.

Analysis of cross-talk effects in volume holographic interconnections using perturbative integral expansion method

  • Cross-talk effects in high-density volume holographic interconnections are investigated using perturbative iteration method of the integral form of Maxwell's wave equation. In this method, the paraxial approximation and negligence of backward scattering introduced in conventional coupled mode theory is not assumed. Interaction geometries consisting of non-coplanar light waves and multiple index gratings are studied. Arbitrary light polarization is considered. Systematic analysis of cross-talk effects due to multiple index gratings is performed in increasing level of diffraction orders corresponding to successive iterations. Some numerical examples are given for first and third order diffraction.

다중모드 광섬유의 모드스페클 패턴을 이용한 광연결 (Optical interconnections by use of mode speckle patterns of a multimode fiber)

  • 본 논문에서는 다중모드 광섬유에서 발생하는 모드스페클 패턴을 이용한 M개의 입력단과 N개의 출력단 사이의 간단한 광연결 방법에 관하여 기술하였다. 적절히 여기된 모드스페클 패턴을 목적지 코드로 사용하고, M개의 홀로그램을 중첩기록한 Vander Lugt 정합필터를 사용하여 수신되는 모드스페클 패턴을 분리 검출함으로써 nonblocking 완전광연결이 가능함을 설명하였다. 광섬유에 입사되는 빔입사각을 바꾸어주거나, 입력광의 편광방향을 바꾸어주면서 출력단에 발생되는 모드 스페클 패턴들의 직교특성을 조사하였다. 임의의 M * N 광연결이 가능함을 보이기 위한 기초 실험으로 코어직경이 50.mu.m인 경사형 굴절율 분포의 4 * 4 다중모드 광섬유 결합기를 사용하여 1 * 2 광연결과 2 * 1 광연결 실험을 수행하였다.

  • A 640Gb/s very advanced ATM switching system using 0.25um CMOS VLSI, 40 layer ceramic MCM and 10Gb/s, 8 wavelength 8$\times$8 optical WDM interconnection has been fabricated. To break though the interconnection bottleneck, optical WDM interconnection is used. It has 20Gb/s 8 wavelength 8$\times$8 interconnection capability. It realizes 640Gb/s interconnections within a very small size. Preliminary tests show that 800b1s ATM switch MCM and optical WDM interconnection technologies can be applied to future high speed broadband networks

무선광연결에서 편광판을 이용한 광잡음 감소 (Optical Noise Reduction Using Polarizers in Wireless Optical Interconnections)

  • 본 논문에서는 무선광연결에서 편광판을 이용하여 잡음광을 소거하는 방법에 대하여 소개한다. 잡음광을 소거하기 위한 차동검출기에 편광판을 사용하면 잡음소거능력이 향상된다. 또한 유사한 파장을 가진 두 개의 광신호가 공간에 첩되어 혼싱이 발생하는 경우에는 각각의 수신부에 편광판을 서로 수직으로 부착하면 각각의 광신호를 쉽게 분리 검출할 수 있다. 이 방법은 매우 간단하여 사용하기가 쉽다.하기가 쉽다.
