  • In this paper, we analyze the queueing performance of cumulative distribution function (CDF)-based opportunistic scheduling over Nakagami-m Markov fading channels. We derive the formula for the average queueing delay and the queue length distribution by constructing a two-dimensional Markov chain. Using our formula, we investigate the queueing performance for various fading parameters.

  • The recent wearable device's applications concentrates on providing diverse services such as location based service, context aware service to the users. These various services are implemented by the interactions between the wearable device and the user. In the legacy system, the interaction requires certain explicit configuration from the user. If the user is unfamiliar with the IT technology, it will be impossible to get the wanted service. Therefore, a new autonomous communication concept among neighbor devices is essential for people who is unfamiliar with the IT technology. The implicit human computer interface enables the user to acquire the services, even though the user don't know the IT technology. In this paper, we propose two BLE based protocols (B-LIDx protocol, B-PniP). B-LIDx protocol is the protocol for locationing the mobile device in indoor. B-PniP is a zero-configure opportunistic direct M2M communication protocol between neighbor devices to achieve the autonomous communication concept with zero-configuration. The protocol's evaluations are performed by measuring the time for finding the location of a mobile device in actual environment and aligning the time spent in services using the B-PniP.

  • This paper proposes an opportunistic subchannel allocation (OSA) scheme for relay-based marine communication networks to improve a sum-rate capacity. In most previous works for relay-based networks, each RS delivers the data received from the BS immediately to the corresponding ships in each frame. The achievable data-rate of the two-hop transmission (BS-RS and RS-ship links) is thus limited by the channel quality between BS-RS and RS-ship links. Hence, the radio resources can be wasted according to the difference in the channel quality between the BS-RS link and the RS-ship link. The proposed OSA scheme reduces the waste of radio resources by efficiently and independently allocating the radio resources at the BS-RS link and at the RS-ship link according to the channel quality of each link. The proposed OSA scheme, however, increases the computational complexity, because the BS finds the optimal OFDMA resource by checking the channel quality of all BS-RS links and RS-ship links. The simulation results show that the sum-rate capacity of the proposed OSA scheme improves maximum 14.0% compared with the conventional scheme.

  • An opportunistic scheduling is adopted to improve the capacity of the system by exploiting the multiuser diversity of multiuser MIMO(MU-MIMO) systems. However it requires the large amount of feedback carrying the channel quality information(CQI) of each user to the transmitter, The considered per user unitary and rate control(PU2RC) needs to feedback the preferred preceding index and its CQIs, and it has a defect in scheduling the streams for the grouped user. In order to overcome these drawbacks, a novel feedback reduction scheme is proposed in this paper. It employs transmitter controlled preceding and opportunistic feedback(TCP-OFB). The simulation results demonstrate that TCP-OFB shows comparable performance to PU2RC while it only requires far reduced feedback load.

  • This research investigates the effect of the antecedents (i.e. specific investment, opportunistic behavior, communications, uncertainty, interdependence, power imbalance, shared value, and flexibility) that influence the trust and commitment of domestic apparel manufacturers toward contractors as well as the effect of trust and commitment on firm performance and relationship satisfaction. A total of 128 apparel manufactures participated in this study. Factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and path analysis were conducted for the statistical analysis. Specific investment, communication, shared value, and flexibility had a positive effect on trust; however, opportunistic behavior had a negative effect. Interdependence, shared value, and flexibility had a positive effect on commitment; however, power imbalance and uncertainty had a negative effect. Trust did not exert an effect on commitment in this research; however, trust and commitment had a positive effect on firm performance; in addition, trust and commitment had a positive effect on relationship satisfaction. The findings offer insight on how to better manage apparel manufacturer-contractor relationships to ensure success.

  • Recently, a Game Shut-down policy, partially limiting the time for the use of online game service, has been implemented in order to protect the youth from the excessive use of games by limiting their access to games in the late hours, based on the serious side effects of online games on the youth. However, the effectiveness of a Game Shut-down policy becomes a social issue. Thus, this study aims to investigate the alternative policies through the levels of the communications suggested by the theory of excellence, for the successful implementation of the policy. As a result of the study, the government and students, the recipient of those policies, need to strengthen their two-way communication in respect of the Game Shut-down policy, breaking from the existing views on the perception. The problem is that the current government's way of the communication for the Game Shut-down policy is one-way and it is aiming at achieving the objectives only. Thus, the communication in this manner will cause the side effect. 'the opportunistic violation of the system in the future', even if the students seemingly accept the system. Two-way communication will enhance the motivation for the voluntary acceptance of the system and lower the motivation for the opportunistic violation of the system. Thus, the government needs to strengthen two-way communication in the future.

  • The frequency spectrum available for the wireless communication is extremely crowded. In order to improve the spectral efficiency, the two-way relay networks have aroused great attention. A simple $N^{th}$ best-relay selection criterion for the opportunistic two-way relay networks is proposed, which can be implemented easily by extending the distributed timer technique in practice, since the proposed criterion is mainly based on the channel gains. The outage performance of the proposed relay selection scheme is analyzed under the outdated channel state information (CSI), and a tight closed-form lower bound and asymptotic value of the outage probability over Rayleigh fading channels are obtained. Simulation results demonstrate that the tight closed-form lower bound of the outage probability very closely matches with simulated ones in the whole SNR region, and the asymptotic results provide good tight approximations to the simulation ones, especially in the high SNR region.

  • In this paper, we propose a new feedback scheme called mode selection-based feedback by scheduling probability prediction (SPP-MF) for channel state feedback in OFDMA downlink system. We design the scheme such that it determines the more desirable feedback mode among selective feedback by scheduling probability prediction (SPP-SF) mode and bitmap feedback by scheduling probability prediction (SPP-BF) mode, by calculating and comparing the throughputs of the two modes. In both feedback modes, each user first calculates the scheduling probability of each subchannel (i.e., the probability that a user wins the scheduling competition for a subchannel) and then forms a feedback message based on the scheduling probability. Specifically, in the SPP-SF mode, each user reports the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) levels and indices of its best S subchannels in terms of the scheduling probability. In the SPP-BF mode, each user determines its scheduling probability threshold. Then, it forms a bitmap for the subchannels according to the scheduling probability threshold and sends the bitmap along with the threshold. Numerical results reveal that the proposed SPP-MF scheme achieves significant performance gain over the existing feedback schemes.

  • Recently, the Wi-Fi Direct standard based on WLAN is getting more attention as a new technology for enabling D2D(Devide-to-Device) communications on mobile devices. However, due to limited power resource of mobile devices and, an energy inefficiency problem can be an issue. In order to solve this problem, the Wi-Fi Direct defines two power management schemes: Opportunistic scheme and Notice of Absence(NoA) scheme. However, there is no concrete description of which power management scheme would be better for when. In this paper, via comprehensive simulation studies using ns-3, we show that each scheme presents obviously different performance and energy efficiency according to data traffic patterns. We then propose more energy efficient way of dynamically switching the two power management schemes.

  • In this paper, we investigate the problem of power allocation in a heterogeneous network that is composed of a pair of cognitive users (CUs) and an infrastructure-based primary network. Since CUs have only limited effective spectrum-sensing ability and primary users (PUs) are not active all the time in all locations and licensed bands, we set up a new multi-area model to characterize the heterogeneous network. A novel combined interference-avoidance policy corresponding to different PU-appearance situations is introduced to protect the primary network from unacceptable disturbance and to increase the spectrum secondary-reuse efficiency. We use dual decomposition to transform the original power allocation problem into a two-layer optimization problem. We propose a low-complexity joint power-optimizing method to maximize the transmission rate between CUs, taking into account both the individual power-transmission constraints and the combined interference power constraint of the PUs. Numerical results show that for various values of the system parameters, the proposed joint optimization method with combined PU protection is significantly better than the opportunistic spectrum access mode and other heuristic approaches.
