  • Vehicular-to-anything (V2X) technology is attractive for wireless vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) because it allows for opportunistic choice of a vehicular protocol between vehicular-to-vehicular (V2V) and vehicular-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications. In particular, achieving seamless connectivity in a VANET with nearby network infrastructure is challenging. In this paper, we propose a density-based opportunistic broadcasting (DOB) protocol, in which opportunistic connectivity is carried out by using the nearby infrastructure and opposite vehicles for solving the problems of disconnection and long end-to-end delay times. The performance evaluation results indicate that the proposed DOB protocol outperforms the considered comparative conventional schemes, i.e., the shortest path protocol and standard mobile WiMAX, in terms of the average end-to-end delay, packet delivery ratio, handover latency, and number of lost packets.

  • Opportunistic scheduling is one of the important techniques to maximize multiuser diversity gain. In this paper, we propose a distributed opportunistic scheduling scheme for ad-hoc network. In the proposed distributed scheduling scheme, each receiver estimates channel condition and calculates independently its own priority with probabilistic manner, which can reduce excessive probing overhead required to gather the channel conditions of all receivers. We evaluate the proposed scheduling using extensive simulation and simulation results show that proposed scheduling obtains higher network throughput than conventional scheduling schemes and has a flexibility to control the fairness and throughput by controlling the system parameter.

  • Codebook-based opportunistic beamforming (COBF) technique provides a beam selection diversity to the conventional opportunistic beamforming. In this paper, we design the random matrix and codebook for the COBF technique based on a kappa-factor channel model. Applying the proposed design to the COBF, nearly optimal beams are generated. Therefore, the COBF shows an outstanding performance without regard to the channel correlation related to the kappa-factor.

  • Network coding is a newly developed technology that can cause considerable improvements in network throughput. COPE is the first network coding approach for wireless mesh networks and it is based on opportunistic Wireless Network Coding (WNC). It significantly improves throughput of multi-hop wireless networks utilizing network coding and broadcast features of wireless medium. In this paper we propose a new method, called FENC, for opportunistic WNC that improves the network throughput. In addition, its complexity is lower than other opportunistic WNC approaches. FENC utilizes division and conquer method to find an optimal network coding. The numerical results show that the proposed opportunistic algorithm improves the overall throughput as well as network coding approach.

  • In order to provide useful Internet of Things (IoT) services, the locations of IoT devices should be well managed. However, frequent location updates of lots of IoT devices result in signaling overhead in networks. To solve this problem, this paper utilizes the opportunistic fog node (OFN) which is opportunistically available according to the mobility to perform the location updates as a representative of IoT devices. Therefore, the location updates through OFN can reduce the signaling loads of networks. To show the performance of the proposed scheme, we develop an analytic model for the opportunistic location update offloading probability that the location update can be offloaded to OFN from the IoT device. Then, the extensive simulation results are given to validate the analytic model and to assess the performance of the proposed scheme in terms of the opportunistic location update offloading probability.

  • In this paper, we propose a task distribution scheme in fog computing environment considering opportunistic fog computing nodes. As latency is one of the important performance metric for IoT(Internet of Things) applications, there have been lots of researches on the fog computing system. However, since the load can be concentrated to the specific fog computing nodes due to the spatial and temporal IoT characteristics, the load distribution should be considered to prevent the performance degradation. Therefore, this paper proposes a task distribution scheme which considers the static as well as opportunistic fog computing nodes according to their mobility feature. Especially, based on the task requirements, the proposed scheme supports the delay sensitive task processing at the static fog node and delay in-sensitive tasks by means of the opportunistic fog nodes for the task distribution. Based on the performance evaluation, the proposed scheme shows low service response time compared to the conventional schemes.

  • Hybrid-ARQ and opportunistic relaying are the widely used schemes for obtaining diversity gain in wireless communications. In opportunistic relaying, channel state information(CSI) between relays and destination is required to select the best relay. But if the destination moves very fast, the CSI becomes outdated. In this paper, performance of hybrid-ARQ based opportunistic relaying with outdated CSI is analyzed in outage probability and throughput perspective. The analysis is verified by computer simulations.

  • We analysed the opportunistic scheduling method in MMR proposed by Samsung Electronic Cooperation and confirmed the efficiency by simulation. We also investigated the relationship between the throughput and fairness under the proposed method. The main objective of this study is to propose an opportunistic packet scheduling method in MMR, which considers the QoS requirement of user. Using the simulation the performance of the proposed method is compared with those of i) pure opportunistic packet scheduling method which doesn't consider QoS requirement and ii) packet scheduling method which only consider the QoS requirement, but does not utilize opportunistic packet scheduling.

  • Sharing culture brings many benefits to enterprises, creating initiative and efficiency in the work performance of managers and employees. The study aims to test the correlation between Sharing culture, opportunistic behavior, and effectiveness of employee management in enterprises in Vietnam. There is the implementation of a quantitative research method, through analysis of linear structural model SEM, with survey data including 601 samples of employees at enterprises. Research results show that sharing culture has a direct and negative impact on opportunistic behavior, positively on the effectiveness of employee management in enterprises. In these correlations, the employee's Trust and Organization commitment act as mediators. At the same time, opportunistic behavior has also been shown to play a mediating role in the relationship between the impact of Sharing culture on the effectiveness of employee management. Based on those results, the study suggested several recommendations to improve the effectiveness of employee management. The findings of this study have shown the importance of sharing culture and its direct and indirect correlation with opportunistic behavior and the effectiveness of employee management. These are meaningful contributions in both theory and practice of the research, and they will be the important basis for further research.
