  • A turbopump real-propellant test facility(TPTF) is to verify the performance of a turbopump unit(TPU) based on liquid oxygen and kerosene. One of the most important sub-facilities is a hot-gas generation system which makes the driving force of the TPU with an alcohol burner. The alcohol burner generates the required flow rates and temperature at the facility using high pressure air and ethanol. In the study, the verification tests of the alcohol burner which was manufactured entirely with domestic technology were performed and fabrication technique and operation skill for the burner could be obtained ahead of the construction of the facility. Two burners will be operated simultaneously for the real-propellant test of 75tf class turbopump and satisfy the power requirement from the turbine of the TPU.

  • The detection sensitivity of a Walk Through Metal Detector (WTMD) currently being developed and operated in Korea differs from one manufacturer to another, making it difficult for them to be used based on Aviation Security level. In addition, the FAA 3-GUN Test approved by the domestic aviation authority for aviation security supervision is a single test object. There is no Operational Test Piece (OTP) consisting of multiple test objects for the operation of aviation security for a WTMD. This paper, the detection sensitivity of a WTMD applied by a commercial OTP was measured and detection sensitivity standards for a WTMD were developed based on results of measurement. Furthermore, institutional plans to maintain the same detection sensitivity for domestic aviation security were made through suggestions for Korean standards OTP development methods, taking characteristics of the aviation field into consideration.

  • In this study, a study on the performance and aging of explosive bolts stored for a long time among pyrotechnic mechanical devices(PMD) used as separation devices in the defense field is conducted. For this, explosive bolts that had been installed in the weapon system for about 10 years are secured. Performance and life extension test procedures are established based on the AIAA Standard and MIL-STD. Before performance evaluation, non-functional tests are performed to check whether external changes or failures occurred. Next, circuit inspection and X-ray tests are conducted to check the failure in internal circuits and structures. After that, performance test is carried out to confirm the operation of the samples that passed the non-functional test. Through this test, separation of bolt and separation time are measured, and some samples are tested after a high temperature storage test to confirm the remaining life and the possibility of extension. Finally, the remaining life and reliability are predicted based on the results of the test and the Arrhenius model to identify remaining shelf life and reliability depend on time.

  • Leptolyngbya sp. KIOST-1 (LK1) is a newly isolated cyanobacterium that shows no obvious cytotoxicity and contains high protein content for both human and animal diets. However, only limited information is available on its toxic effects. The purpose of this study was to validate the safety of LK1 powder. Following Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) guidelines, a single-dose oral toxicity test in Sprague Dawley rats was performed. Genotoxicity was assessed using a bacterial reverse mutation test with Salmonella typhimurium (strains TA98, TA100, TA1535, and TA1537) and Escherichia coli WP2 uvrA, an in vitro mammalian chromosome aberration test using Chinese hamster lung cells, and an in vivo mammalian erythrocyte micronucleus test using Hsd:ICR (CD-1) SPF mouse bone marrow. After LK1 administration (2,500 mg/kg), there were no LK1-related body weight changes or necropsy findings. The reverse mutation test showed no increased reverse mutation upon exposure to 5,000 ㎍/plate of the LK1 powder, the maximum tested amount. The chromosome aberration test and micronucleus assay demonstrated no chromosomal abnormalities and genotoxicity, respectively, in the presence of the LK1 powder. The absence of physiological findings and genetic abnormalities suggests that LK1 powder is appropriate as a candidate biomass to be used as a safe food ingredient.

  • Investigation on operation of the test apparatus for the M4 semi-freejet tests with a full-scale vehicle model was carried out utilizing domestic facilities. An integrated design of the experimental apparatus and the vehicle model was obtained through iterative computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. The test results showed that the M4 nozzle of the apparatus was fully expanded to provide required test conditions. It was also found that the intake of the vehicle model successfully started, and the corresponding shadowgraph images were recorded during the test. A variable nozzle of the model was set to adjust the back pressure of the model combustor, and wall-static pressures were measured to obtain the pressure distribution at the main locations of the model. The flame of torch ignitors and pilot fuel ignition were observed in a flame-holder of the combustor.

  • Recently, various public services are being performed based on information systems as the informatization business spreads. Public administration services based on these information systems provide internal and external services. In recent years, as the construction of cloud-based public services has been expanded, the advancement of information systems has attracted attention. In particular, as the dependence on information systems increases, the establishment of a response system to prevent dangerous situations such as interruption and paralysis of information systems in advance has become a hot topic not only in companies but also in public institutions. Therefore, in this paper, a disaster recovery system was designed and built to maximize the efficiency of system operation and shorten recovery time through service conversion automation of the disaster recovery system. The integrated DR server redundancy test, web server redundancy test, FC-IP redundancy test, and SAN switch redundancy test were performed respectively by applying the disaster recovery system designed and built according to the method proposed in the paper.

  • Proper discharge of nitrogen gas and water condensate is required in a conventional fuel cell system for performance, stability and durability of fuel cell stacks. Present study covers the development of integrated unit and its functioning logic for simultaneous nitrogen gas purge and water condensate drainage in a fuel cell vehicle system. Configuration of condensate drainage pipe, purge valve and level sensor is considered and optimized in physical integration. As a key factor, discharge time is considered and optimized based on the test result of constant-current operation with various operating temperature in logic development. Consequently, derived optimal values are applied and verified in actual vehicle drive mode test. Increase of system design flexibility, weight reduction and cost reduction are anticipated with this study. Additional study for physical and logical improvement is currently being implemented.

  • Packed-bed reactor for removing ammonia was tested at different loading rates. Nitrifiers for ammonia removing was encapsulated in gel media which consisted of polyethlene glycol, alginate and activated carbon. The removal efficiency was nearly 100% when ammonia loading was $12g/m^3/hr$, and the maximum elimination capacity (EC) achieved on this study was $18g/m^3/hr$. The initial microbial portion of nitrifiers in the media was about 82% and it was increased to more than 90% at the end of the operation. Short-term shock loading test was carried out to survey the stability of the media. The inlet loading rates were varied from 2 to $20g/m^3/hr$. The packed-bed reactor overcame the shock loading i.e. removal efficiency recovered rapidly from about 80% to almost 100% within 6 hrs. The results of Live/Dead cell test showed that nitrifiers maintained there activity in the encapsulated media during the test and also against ammonia shock load.

  • To test the effectiveness of the preparatory audiovisual information with videotape, 34 patients with gastric cancer and who have scheduled for subtotal gastrectomy were studied with quasiexperimental research design. The subjects were selected from the 4 general surgical wards of one university hospital in Seoul, and assigned to experimental and control group conveniently. The videotaped information on the preparation and recovery for surgery was showed to the experimental subjects once before having operation. Data on the sleep and the state anxiety level before and after treatment day was collected with VSH sleep scale and STAI. The data was analyzed with t-test to test the effect of preparatory information and the Pearson's correlation to identify the correlation between anxiety and sleep. The results were summerized as follows : 1. After receiving the preparatory information, the level of anxiety of the experimental group was the same level as the initial, whereas that of the control group showed markedly increase. However no significant difference in anxiety between the two groups was found. 2. There was significant difference in sleep score between the experimental and the control group. 3. There was significant negative correlation between the state anxiety score and the sleep score. Based upon the above findings, this study concludes that preparatory information is effective to enhance sleep just prior to the surgery.

  • The dynamic stability of railway vehicle has been one of the important issues in railway safety. The dynamic simulator has been used in the study about the dynamic stability of railway vehicle and wheel/rail interface. Especially, a small scale simulator has been widely used in the fundamental study in the laboratory instead of full scale roller rig which is not cost effective and inconvenient to achieve diverse design parameters. But the technique for the design of the small scale simulator for the fundamental study about the dynamic characteristics of the wheel-rail system and the bogie system has not been well developed in Korea. Therefore, the research about the development of the small scale simulator and the bogie has been conducted. As this paper, To predict the dynamic behavior of railway vehicle, we studied running stability test of 1/5 scaled bogie that similarity laws is applied using small scale derailment simulator. For the operation of the small scale derailment simulator, it is required to investigate the performance and characteristics of the system. This could be achieved by a comparative study between an analysis and an experiment. This paper presented the analytical model which could be used for verifying of the test results and understanding of the physical behavior of the dynamic system comprising the small scale bogie and the simulator.
