The uncertainty problem analysis of the engineering solution for prediction and estimation of the operating regime to design of gas- hydro-dynamic systems

  • Analysis of the uncertainty to have engineering solution of gas-dynamic and hydrodynamic problems is based on the comparison the prospective engineering solution with experimental result. In this paper, the mathematical model to estimate heat flux along gas-dynamic channel wall and the solution sequence are shown. Statistical information and generalizing experimental characteristics about gas- and hydro-dynamic channels were applied to the mathematical model. As the results, it is possible to draw a conclusion that models of the integrated approach, using the averaged statistical data of generalizing characteristics for a turbulent flow, without consideration of the turbulent mechanism (characteristic pulsations), can predict a nominal operating regime for gas-dynamic and hydrodynamic systems. The probable deviation of operating regime for newly designed the gas-dynamic channel can achieve 20% from a regime predicted on a basis 1-D or 3-D modelling irrespective of a kind of used models.

A Two-Axis Ultra-precision Stage Using Flexure-type Parallel Linear Guide Mechanism (플렉셔 구조의 병렬형 선형 안내기구를 이용한 2 축 초정밀 스테이지)

  • In this study, a two-axis ultra-precision stage driven by piezoelectric elements is presented. The stage has a flexure-type parallel linear guide mechanism consisting of quad-symmetric simple parallel linear springs and quad-symmetric double compound linear springs. While the simple parallel linear springs guide the linear motion of a moving plate in the stage, the double compound linear springs follow the motion of the simple parallel linear spring as well as compensate the parasitic motions caused by the simple parallel linear springs. The linear springs are designed by rectangular beam type flexures that are deformed by bending deflection rather than axial extension, because the axial extension is smaller than the bending deflection at the same force. The designed guide mechanism is analyzed by finite element method(FEM). Then two-axis parallel linear stage is implemented by the linear guide mechanism combined with piezoelectric elements and capacitance type displacement sensors. It is shown that the manufactured ultra-precision stage achieves 3 nm of resolution in x- and y-axis within 30 ${\mu}m$ of operating range.

  • In this paper, a miniaturized stage with two prismatic-prismatic joints (2-PP) type parallel compliant mechanism driven by piezo actuators is proposed. This stage consists of two layers which are a motion guide layer and an actuation layer. The motion guide layer has 2-PP type parallel compliant mechanism to guide two translational motions, whereas the actuation layer has two leverage type amplification mechanisms and two piezo actuators to generate forces. Since the volume of the stage is too small to mount displacement sensors, the piezo actuators embedding strain gauge sensors are chosen. With the strain gauge-embedded piezo actuators, a semi-control is implemented, which results in hysteresis compensation of the stage. As the results, the operating range of $30{\mu}m$, the resolution of 20 nm, and the bandwidth of 400 Hz in each axis were obtained in the experiments.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive fuzzy controller based fuzzy logic control for high performance of permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) drive. In the proposed system, fuzzy control is sued to implement the direct controller as well as the adaptation mechanism. The adaptation mechanism is executed by fuzzy logic based on the error and change of error measured between the motor speed and output of a reference model. The control performance of adaptive fuzzy controller is evaluated by simulation for various operating conditions. The validity of the proposed controller is confirmed by performance results for PMSM drive system.

  • To provide a specified power quality under electric market system is becoming an important issue for customers and utility company. However, there is no realistic infra-structure to design a power system for the specified power quality. Present electric market is operating under the economic point of view. The low power price could be attractive, but the effect of low price could result the lower power quality for the long time and threat power system security. This paper presents a model which conceptualize the dynamic power quality control mechanism to minimize total cost of a society which is affected electric power quality. This model aims to produce a basic infra-structure to balance cost and quality under the electric market system.

  • The Flow characteristics of a ship's propulsion mechanism of Weis-Fogh type, in which a airfoil(NACA0010) moves reciprocally in a channel, were investigated by the PIV. Velocity vectors and velocity profiles around the operating and stationary wings were observed at opening angles of ${\alpha}=15^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, velocity ratios of $V/U=0.5{\sim}1.5$ and Reynolds number of $Re=0.52{\times}104{\sim}1.0{\times}104$. As the results the fluid between wing and wall was inhaled in the opening stage and was jet in the closing stage. The wing in the translating stage accelerated the fluid in the channel. And the flow fields of this propulsion mechanism were unsteady and complex, but those were clarified by flow visualization using the PIV.

Development of a Material Test Machine Using an Electro-Magnetic Actuator (전자기 구동장치를 이용한 재료시험기 개발)

  • In this research, a material test machine is developed which uses a small electro-magnetic actuator and a leverage mechanism. The leverage mechanism amplifies the force from the electro-magnetic actuator. The electro-magnetic part operates more silently and cleanly than a hydraulic part. In a tooth material study, a test machine does not require a large force capacity because it handles only $4mm^2$-sectioned and short-span specimens. Conventional test machines such as those by Instron and the BOSE Enduratec ELF3200 have too high aforce capacity for a tooth material study. A test machine for a tooth material study requires an acting force only on the order of tens of Newtons (N) operating at several Hertz.

Development of a Swing-Arm Type Polishing Machine for Large Optics (스윙암 방식을 이용한 대형 광학부품 연마가공기 개발)

  • A polishing machine adopting a new unique structural mechanism has been developed, named as a swing-arm type polishing machine. The mechanism is such that the tool path tracks on a spherical surface, of which the diameter is adjusted by setting up the machine mechanism properly. It has a strong benefit especially for polishing axis-symmetric concave mirror surfaces. The swing-arm type polishing machine with 5-axes has been designed in order to polish a concave mirror surface lip to diameter of 2 meters. The drawings are made using 3D CAD and strain-stress analysis has been done by finite element method. AC servo-motor has been used to move the swing arm and a operating software has been developed using a LapVIEW tool. Result of the test run was satisfactory which convinces the usefulness of the swing-arm type polishing machine.

  • Mechanical spring and hydraulic pressure operated mechanisms are applied in most of today's High Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear(GIS)s. This paper proposes a new type of operation mechanism for GIS circuit breakers rated at 245kV and 40kA. The Motor-Direct-Drive-Mechanism (MDDM) has many advantages compared to conventional operating mechanisms. It has a very simple structure with only one moving part, low mechanical stress and audible noise. It also allows monitoring, operation speed control and self-diagnosis functions.

  • Of all of pneumatic components utilized in the make up of pneumatic circuits on either automatic assembly machine or industrial equipment, the pneumatic cylinder is more oriented toward being a structural as well as a pneumatic member. The structural design must be based to a large degree on the end of application of the cylinder on the equipment it is operating. In this paper, design studies of a double-acting pneumatic cushion type cylinder with low-friction and high-speed driving have been developed. Of interest here is to investigate the structural analysis of cylinder tube, piston rod, end cover, and to analyze the buckling of piston rod. Also, a relief valve type cushion mechanism is considered. This cushion mechanism is found to be adequate under a high-speed driving of pneumatic cylinders.
