  • In the design of high speed machinery, designers must consider the problem of possible structural failure due to excessive dynamically varying stresses, which are induced by the varying external loads and internal inertia forces, in the links of the mechanism. A study of the dynamically induced stresses would indicate what values of the minimum permissible fatigue strength should be for safe mechanism operation. This paper investigates the nature of the stress fluctuation in high speed mechanism on the basis of the effects of both the loads and the friction. The latter is apt to be neglected in the usual analysis in spite of the fact that it is always generated in the operating machinery. The analysis is performed on the coupler of the slider-crank mechanism for illustrative purposes and the results are expressed in a non-dimensional form for design applications.

  • PID controllers with constant gains have been widely used in various control systems due to its powerful performance and easy implementation. But it is difficult to have uniformly good control performance in all operating conditions. In this paper, we propose a nonlinear variable PR controller with immune feedback mechanism. An immune feedback mechanism is based on the functioning of biological T-cells, they include both an active term, which controls response speed. and an inhibitive term, which controls stabilization effect. Therefore, the proposed nonlinear PID controller is based on immune responses of biological. immune feedback mechanism which is the cell mediated immunity and In order to choose the optimal nonlinear PID controller games, we also propose the tuning algorithm of nonlinear function parameter in immune feedback mechanism. To verify performance of the proposed algorithm, the speed control of nonlinear DC motor are performed. Front the simulation results, we have found that the proposed algorithm is more superior to the conventional constant fain PID controller.

  • In this paper, we propose a mechanism for both scheduling the hybrid-task set which consists of periodic and aperiodic tasks and recovering tasks with transient faults on the level of the operating system. Existing embedded operating systems would not provide the scheduling of both periodic and aperiodic tasks. Also because of not supporting the recovery of task failures, they can not prevent system failure from transient task faults. Proposed method, on the level of operating system, is able to not only meet the deadlines of all periodic tasks but also complete the execution of aperiodic tasks. In addition, it is able to prevent the system failure from transient task faults by recovering the task faults.

  • An investigation of the mechanism of period-doubling bifurcation in a voltage mode controlled buck-boost converter operating in discontinuous conduction mode is conducted from the viewpoint of nonlinear dynamical systems. The discrete iterative model describing the dynamics of the close-loop is derived. Period-doubling bifurcation occurs at certain values of the feedback factor. Results from numerical simulations and experiments are provided to verify the evolution of perioddoubling bifurcation, and the results are consistent with the theoretical analysis. These results show that the buck-boost converters exhibit a wide range of nonlinear behavior, and the system exhibits a typical period-doubling bifurcation route to chaos under particular operating conditions.

  • The hydraulic coconut dehusking machine consists of three main parts ie. The frame , the power unit including the hydraulic accessories, the lifting and dehusking mechanisms. Two sets of the hydraulic coconut dehusking machine were developed . their hydraulic and electrical control circuits were connected in series to enable them operating contemporaneously. Two operators are required to operate the machine. Each of them put a coconut on the lifting mechanism in order to start the working cycle automatically. As a result, the nut are immediately pushed up and seized by the holding teeth under the supplement of the hydraulic reducing circuit. After that the dehusking mechanism started operating via the sequence circuit. At the end of the cycle, both mechanisms return to their original positions. Some remaining fibrous is taken out manually from the nut subsequently . The continuous dehusking speed was found to be 22.2 seconds per 2 coconuts.

  • This paper presents development of ROV-type underwater robot capable of cleaning ship hull in automatic mode. The purpose of developing this robot is for underwater cleaning to secure the safety of divers who inspect and clean the ship hull. The robot consists of the cleaning system with rotating brush mechanism, a car-like driving mechanism, inspection system using video, and overall control system for underwater communication and operation. In this paper, we present overall design process of the cleaning system and operating system and technical contents of the overall control system for the underwater cleaning robot.

  • Traction motors driven by several type inverters have been subjected to increasing demands for higher operating temperature, more demands for duty cycles, higher starting current, frequent voltage transients and finally severe environmental exposure. For applications to inverter duty, traction motors needs a special insulation system, which has characteristics of increased bond strength, lower operating temperature and higher turn-to-tum insulation. Also it needs major contributors to insulation life and reliability of motors, which more considered by temperature, voltage, frequency, rise time, pulse configuration, wire thickness and insulation materials. In this paper, to evaluate of reliability and expected life, it is analyzed the several stresses and their degradation mechanism on insulation system of AC traction motor.

  • This paper presents Hybrid PI(HBPI) controller of IPMSM drive using fuzzy adaptive mechanism control. In general, PI controller in computer numerically controlled machine process fixed gain. They may perform well under some operating conditions, but not all. To increase the robustness, fixed gain PI controller, HBPI controller proposes a new method based self tuning PI controller. HBPI controller is developed to minimize overshoot and settling time following sudden parameter changes such as speed, load torque, inertia, rotor resistance and self inductance. The results on a speed controller of IPMSM are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed gain tuner. And this controller is better than the fixed gains one in terms of robustness, even under great variations of operating conditions and load disturbance.

  • A modified circulating fluidized bed heat exchanger under severe fouling condition is developed. The effects of fouling deposits on the performance of a heat exchanger are investigated. The principle and operating characteristics of a circulating fluidized bed heat exchanger are dicussed. A modified circulating fluidized bed heat exchanger shows more stable operating than the other circulating fluidized bed heat exchanger. The characteristics of self cleaning and heat transfer enhancement of a circulating fluidized bed heat exchanger are studied. The movement of spherical particles in a tube is visualized and heat transfer enhancement and scale reduction mechanism by particles are investigated.

  • The oil-impregnated sintered bearings are used for various aplecations and, wide usages without refueling. The oil circulating mechanism operates smoothly the behavior of oil If doing at the time of passing and becoming a stationary state, and there is little thing where trouble is caused. On the other hand, the trouble of such as starting noise might be caused in the unstationary state that repeats operation for a short time. To study the behavior of oil of each parameter, we execute the numerical simulation and various verification experiments. As a result, we developed that the bearings were able to be used enough for various brief operating time in the unstationary state. Finally we have expanded the usage of the oil-impregnated sintered bearings by adding the consideration of the behavior of oil.
