The abstracts written in Korean presented at the Fall Meeting of the Korean Earth Science Society held at the Kangwon National University in October, 1999 were reviewed. They are dotted with foreign expressions and obscure wordings as well as difficult expressions and very long sentences. The foreign expressions are those originated from Japanese, English, and Chinese expressions and words. Several suggestions are made to increase the ability to write good abstracts and articles in Korean on the earth sciences. They include reading many books on natural sciences for general readers, writing sentences not exceeding 20 words, critical reading by professor or colleagues, and open mind to accept their criticisms. The authors should pay attention not to commit various errors shown in Table 2 in this paper.

This study attempted to understand post-purchase consumer return experiences which had not received much attention in consumer behavior research. As a first step to understand return experiences from consumers' viewpoint, the study took an exploratory approach and identified themes and patterns from subjective consumer experiences. Whenever possible, attribution theory was applied to interpret the identified patterns. A total of 99 cases were collected from an open-ended questionnaire and analyzed based on a qualitative method. The reasons of product return was classified into five groups: changing mind; product defects; unsuitable products; products not expected; and for a better deal. External attribution was observed for return decisions caused by consumers' changed mind as well as by product defects. Dissatisfaction with defected products seemed to be intensified or reduced by service failure or success in the post-purchase service encounter. Consumer expectation and situations seemed to affect this process. Overall, the study supported attribution theory in the post-purchase return experience, and insights for research questions were proposed.

In this experiment, we developed a mind switching device which uses $\alpha$-wave with its amplitude varying between the eye-open and closed states. If the subject closes eyes, the switch toggles with a small delay. The circuit consists of an amplifier, a filter and a switch. An instrument amplifier is used fur high CMRR and for high input impedance. An 8th order Butterworth filter was able to reduce noise satisfactorily. The signal is then converted to a DC level, and finally a Schmitt trigger was used to generate a switching pulse.

The voltage-source inverters (VSI) supplying a motor drive are prone to open transistor faults. To address this issue in fault-tolerant drives applicable to electric vehicles, a new open transistor fault diagnosis (FD) method is presented in this paper. According to the proposed method, in order to define the FD index, the phase angle of the converter output current is estimated by a simple trigonometric function. The proposed FD method is adaptable, simple, capable of detecting multiple open switch faults and robust to load operational variations. Keeping the FD in mind as a mandatory part of the fault tolerant control algorithm, the FD block is applied to a five-phase converter supplying a multiphase fault-tolerant PM motor drive with non-sinusoidal unbalanced current waveforms. To investigate the performance of the FD technique, the fault-tolerant sliding mode control (SMC) of a five-phase brushless direct current (BLDC) motor is developed in this paper with the embedded FD block. Once the theory is explained, experimental waveforms are obtained from a five-phase BLDC motor to show the effectiveness of the proposed FD method. The FD algorithm is implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA).

In this study, the personality type of youths was divided into 4 areas: Open, Blind, Hidden and Unknown, and the four different types were analysed according to the impact on smartphone addiction. The survey was conducted on 406 middle school students in Jeonbuk province to assess the relationship between smartphone addiction of youth and the personality type. The results of this study are as follows: First, the difference of smartphone addiction in youth between genders is not large, but males were largely affected by tolerance, while females by difficulty of daily living. Second, the differences of smartphone addiction between grades found that difficulty of daily living and tolerance had a statistically significant impact. Third, the result of co-relationship between the Johari window type of mind and smartphone addiction showed that blind type and unknown type had a statistically significant positive relationship but open type had a negative impact. Finally, analysis of variables about whether a type of mind affected smartphone addiction showed that there was a relationship. The most serious type of addiction to smartphones showed in hidden type and unknown type. Therefore in developing programs to treat smartphone addiction it should seek specific measures to help these groups.

In Chinese medicine, the activities of removing and solving the inner cause are called the regimen in preventing the disease and the good condition of mind emphasizes us to practice ourselves the doctrine of regimen of the mind to promote the health and long life of the living body, in other words, it means we should have clean mind, less desire, less thought, less agony and widely open our emotion and will, and it also means the raising of good nature, the moral cultivation, and we can be healthy when we live by good virtus as the root of regiem. The meaning of the Qi has been expanded more and more since its origination throught the process of practice and perception of man. 1) Matter is changed to the smoke when burned, the energy of water becomes the rain in the sky and the rain raises all living creatures by making them wet. Throught these changes of circulation, men could realize the energy to be the common and original matter of forming all the creatures. 2) The direction of showing the breathing of men in and out has been expended. 3) It was widely understood as the meaning of showing vitality of men, and it was the original root of chinese medicine. 4) It was expended to be showing spirit of nature such as the sun, moon, star, sky, land, mountain and the moral spirit of men as peacefullness. By the original meaning of the word of energy expanded to the wider side of sky, land, men and things, nature, society, man and the moral spirit could get the unified basis of the matter. As the above, the word of Qi has been used in wider meaning at this time from the past. In other words, all things in the universe come into being and extinct by the chang of motion of the Qi and it is recognized to be the living activity in human body. The Qi-kong based on this energy and the motion applied to our daily life are very extensive (Lee, Hye - lung, 1997). Here are the summaries of the effect of the Qi-kong ; 1) The physical constitution is strenthened, physiological function is prosperous and we are free from various geriatric disease and psychosomatic disease not to mention the cold and indigestion. 2) It maintains the clear spirit, elevates intelligence, strengthens the spiritual power and demonstrates the potentiality at the amximum. 3) It maintain beautiful figure and clean skin never losing the charm but full of energy and vitality. 4) It keeps the balanced body never suffering from the unbalance of the bones, various and neuralgia. 5) It maintain the spiritual comfort, the natural posture in everything and real happiness (Lee, Hye-Jung, 1997 : Suh, Yong Kyu, 1989). Chinese medicine mentions the motion by Qi with Qi - kong. But the motion does not require special method in Western medicine. I t is the only way of living of our ancestor indaily life. It is maintaining the healthy lifr by training the Qi, and it is the motion of being with the nature with the open mind in breathing rather than artificially restricting our daily life, it is the motion of the body.

Along with the recent pressures for market liberalizations in the legal services sector, the topsizing, multinationalization, and specialization of Law Firms have brought about the need for them to view the profession itself from a marketing perspective and promote corporate identity to improve productivity and garner clientele. With this in mind, this study attempts the revamping of the traditionally, conservative and cramped characteris-tics of Law Firms' interior space into more open and dy-namic ones with a contemporary and international feel which are also superior from a marketing viewpoint.

Purpose: The purpose of this preliminary study was to describe the physical and psychosocial distress of critically ill patients undergoing noninvasive ventilation(NIV). Method: Open-ended question interviews were conducted with four patients using NIV. Considering the outcomes of the interviews, literature, and experts'opinions, a survey questionnaire was developed. Twenty patients in medical and surgical intensive care units answered the questions. Results: Through open-ended question interviews and survey, the patients using NIV reported feeling heavy, impotent feeling, pain, loss in feeling, loss in communication, and lack of sleep as physical distress and a loss in sense of time, pain, anxiety, mind of desiring to die, worry about family, and a sense of burden for medical-cure expenses as psychosocial distress. Conclusion: Critically ill patients undergoing NIV experience physical and psychosocial distress to artificial respiratory ventilation treatment. Further research should be performed with a large sample for generalization of the study result.

In this paper, we will introduce IPP (Industry Professional Practice) model which is a unique Korean long-term co-op (co-operative) education model developed and will be implemented by Korea Tech. IPP model is designed to make up for the weak points of the existing short-term job training system and to fit Korean educational environment by benchmarking North America co-op model that has 100 years of history, and it will be supported by the Korean government (Ministry of Employment and Labor) unlike other existing co-op systems in Korea. In order to be a successful IPP program, it is required of companies' active participation to this program with open mind, and university's investment on IPP infrastructure such as concrete academic system design and IPP center, etc.

This paper aims to analyse facilities and characteristics of management for 21 model schools' open education system. So, we analyzed the class management and the methods of open education, teacher's mind, the shape and form of study group and we investigated teachers' satisfaction rate about the physical space. As a result, it is considered that the change for structure of learning space unit is needed because of the limitation in standard class size by the rule for construction. Considering the decrease of real using space by the space of learning materials or learning furniture, it should enlarge the structure of learning space unit or decrease the number of students. And to use multipurpose space practically as a place of study, it need that the multiple support of study program for teachers by government, support in course of study, giving training opportunity to teachers, distribution of personal management.
