Off-Line Programming in the Shipbuilding Industry: Open Architecture and Semi-Automatic Approach

  • In this paper, to improve the efficiency of welding and user convenience in the shipbuilding industry, a PC-based off-line programming (OLP) technique and the development of a robot transfer unit are presented. The developed OLP system is capable of not only robot motion simulations but also automatic generations of a series of robot programs. The strength of the developed OLP system lies in its flexibility in handling the changes of the welding robot's target objects. Moreover, for a precise transfer of the robot to a desired location, an auxiliary mobile platform named a robot-origin-transfer-unit (ROTU) was developed. To enhance the cornering capability of the platform in a narrow area, the developed ROTU is equipped with 2 steering wheels and 1 driving wheel. Both the OLP and the ROTU were field­tested and their performances were proven successful.

  • In this paper, we discuss the implementation and experimentations of a new future Internet architecture for mobile-oriented environments, named Mobile Oriented Future Internet (MOFI). The MOFI architecture is featured by the host identifier and local locator for identifier-locator separation, Query-First Data Delivery (QFDD), and Distributed Mapping System (DMS) for identifier-locator mapping control. In the existing study on MOFI, we examined the intra-domain mobility control, the implementation of MOFI over Linux platform, and the performance analysis over the small-scale testbed. In this paper, we describe how to implement the MOFI architecture for inter-domain mobility control by using the OpenFlow and Click Modular Router platform. From the experimentations over the KOREN testbed, we can see that the MOFI scheme can give better performance than the existing Proxy Mobile IP scheme.

Building a Private Cloud-Computing System for Greenhouse Control

  • Purpose: Cloud-computing technology has several advantages, including maintenance, management, accessibility, and computing power. A greenhouse-control system utilizing these advantages was developed using a private cloud-computing system. Methods: A private cloud needs a collection of servers and a suite of software tools to monitor and control cloud-computing resources. In this study, a server farm, operated by OpenStack as a cloud platform, was constructed using servers, and other network devices. Results: The greenhouse-control system was developed according to the fundamental cloud service models: infrastructure as a service, platform as a service, and software as a service. This system has four additional advantages - security, control function, public data use, and data exchange. There are several considerations that must be addressed, such as service level agreement, data ownership, security, and the differences between users. Conclusions: When the advantages are utilized and the considerations are addressed, cloud-computing technology will be beneficial for agricultural use.

Development of Real time Linux-based Open Architecture Controller (리얼타임 리눅스기반 개방향제어기 개발)

  • In the manufacturing industries, agility and flexibility are the key issues to meet the various market demands. From this point of view, open architecture control has many advantages. This paper suggests a real-time Linux-based open architecture controller. Linux-based and windows-based controllers are compared in several aspects, and Linux is shown to be advantageous over the windows. With the user friendly GUI, the suggested controller is applied to the X-Y stage which is made of two linear motors. Path following and repeatability performances are successfully observed, which shows the validity of the suggested controller.

  • This paper proposed a web-based open architecture monitoring system using the Java language. The proposed system can be implemented in any platform and the status of the process can be monitored in a remote station. The proposed scheme have been applied to a steam generator level controller for a nuclear power plant. The result shows the feasibility of the proposed system.

  • This study illustrates and compares the platform strategy of Apple and Samsung, which have been operating their own App stores, by using the $IISI^n$ model. Apple, the first mover of the platform, has employed closed strategy for quality control of the platform and customer loyalty. On the other hand, Samsung has employed open strategy for increasing the platform network effects. The result of this study showed that the platform strategy "Openness", which is a free entry of participants, and "Sharing" of created value, are important along with the excellent platform environment. As a pioneering study of the platform strategy for the co-creation, this research contributes to both theory and practice.

A Novel Framework for Resource Orchestration in OpenStack Cloud Platform

  • This work is mainly focused on two major topics in cloud platforms by using OpenStack as a case study: management and provisioning of resources to meet the requirements of a service demanded by remote end-user and relocation of virtual machines (VMs) requests to offload the encumbered compute nodes. The general framework architecture contains two subsystems: 1) An orchestrator that allows to systematize provisioning and resource management in OpenStack, and 2) A resource utilization based subsystem for vibrant VM relocation in OpenStack. The suggested orchestrator provisions and manages resources by: 1) manipulating application program interfaces (APIs) delivered by the cloud supplier in order to allocate/control/manage storage and compute resources; 2) interrelating with software-defined networking (SDN) controller to acquire the details of the accessible resources, and training the variations/rules to manage the network based on the requirements of cloud service. For resource provisioning, an algorithm is suggested, which provisions resources on the basis of unused resources in a pool of VMs. A sub-system is suggested for VM relocation in a cloud computing platform. The framework decides the proposed overload recognition, VM allocation algorithms for VM relocation in clouds and VM selection.

Implementation of a Mobile Robot Control Platform using Real-Time Embedded Linux (실시간 임베디드 리눅스를 이용한 이동 로봇 플랫폼 구현)

  • The SoC and digital technology development recently enabled the emergence of information devices and control devices because the SoC presents many advantages such like lower power consumption, greater reliability, and lower cost. However, it is nearly impossible to use the SoC without operating systems because the SoC is included with many peripherals and complex architecture. It is required to use embedded operating systems and real-time operating systems may be used as an embedded operating system. So far, real-time operating systems are widely used to implement a Real-Time system since it meets developer's requirements. However, real-time operating systems have disadvantages including a lack of standards, expensive development, and license. Embedded Linux is able to overcome their disadvantages. In this paper, the implementation of control system platform for a mobile robot using real-time Embedded Linux is described. As a control hardware system platform, XScale board is used. As the real-time Embedded Linux, RTAI is adopted which is open source and royalty free, and supports various architectures and real-time devices, such like real-time CAN and real-time COM. This paper shows the implementation of RTAI on XScale board that means the porting procedure. We also applied the control system platform to the mobile robot and compared the Real-Time serial driver with non real-time serial driver. Experimental results show that that using RTAI is useful to build real-time control system with powerful functionalities of Linux.

Design and Evaluation Security Control Iconology for Big Data Processing (빅데이터 처리를 위한 보안관제 시각화 구현과 평가)

  • This study describes how to build a security control system using an open source big data solution so that private companies can build an overall security control infrastructure. In particular, the infrastructure was built using the Elastic Stack, one of the free open source big data analysis solutions, as a way to shorten the cost and development time when building a security control system. A comparative experiment was conducted. In addition, as a result of comparing and analyzing the functions, convenience, service and technical support of the two solution, it was found that the Elastic Stack has advantages in the security control of Big Data in terms of community and open solution. Using the Elastic Stack, security logs were collected, analyzed, and visualized step by step to create a dashboard, input large logs, and measure the search speed. Through this, we discovered the possibility of the Elastic Stack as a big data analysis solution that could replace Splunk.
