  • Onomatopoeia of korean documents is to represent from natural or artificial sound to human language and it can express onomatopoeia language which is the nearest an object and also able to utilize as standard for clustering of Multimedia data. In this study, We get frequency of onomatopoeia in the experiment subject and select 100 onomatopoeia of use to our study In order to cluster onomatopoeia's relation, we extract feature of similarity and distance metric and then represent onomatopoeia's relation on vector space by using PCA. At the end, we can clustering onomatopoeia by using k-means algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a system which improves text catchphrases on the web using onomatopoeia and the Japanese Google N-grams. Onomatopoeia is regarded as a fundamental tool in daily communication for people. The proposed system inserts an onomatopoetic word into plain text catchphrases. Being based on a large catchphrase encyclopedia, the proposed system evaluates each catchphrase's candidates considering the words, structure and usage of onomatopoeia. That is, candidates are selected whether they contain onomatopoeia and they use specific catchphrase grammatical structures. Subjective experiments show that inserted onomatopoeia is effective for making attractive catchphrases.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effects in auditory performance and vocal development of Onomatopoeia and Mimetic Word Productive Training Program in prelingually deafened children with cochlear implantation. The effects were measured with Lip-profile (Listening progress profile: LiP), the number of utterances, vocal developmental level and phonetic inventory. Subjects were four children with cochlear implants who were able to detect speech sounds and environmental sounds. The Onomatopoeia and Mimetic word Productive Training Program was made up of 3 steps with 24 Onomatopoeia and Mimetic words. This study was pre and post design. The results of the study were as follows: First, after Onomatopoeia and Mimetic word Productive Training Program was treated, LiP score was significantly higher. Second, after this program was treated, the number of utterances and emergence of both canonical and postcanonical utterances were increased. Emergence of vowel and consonant Features were increased and diversified. In conclusion, Onomatopoeia and Mimetic Word Productive Training Program appeared to facilitate efficient auditory performance and vocal development.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the meanings of onomatopoeia and mimetic words contextually used contextually when children play together. Methods: The participants included 40 children (ages 3-5 years) attending "M Daycare Center" in Seoul and "S Daycare Center" in Seongnam (a city in Gyeonggi-do). Twenty rounds of play observations were conducted at the centers. Once per week from May to October 2015. Results: The onomatopoeia and mimetic words observed were primarily relate to physical movements, sounds, and shapes. These types relate to Max van Manen's life-world existentials, correlating with spatiality, corporeality, and relationality. The characteristics of onomatopoeic and mimetic words used were additive and were used by the children to refine and diversify their language skills and enrich their linguistic imaginations. Conclusion: Onomatopoeic and mimetic words help children design their own play situations based on their creativity and help them share the play with their peers.

  • The purpose of this study is to consider the health and well-being of singing, an expression activity of language. There are also many studies in which singing activities have a positive effect on individual quality of life and social activities. Therefore, this study attempted to suggest that more effective singing is being performed by increasing empathy through various expressions of onomatopoeia and mimic words. Love Changbu Taryeong (愛倡夫打令) is Korea's traditional representative Gyeonggi folk song. It is a cheerful and lyrical folk song based on the five scale of Sol-ra-do-re-mi. It sings not only human joy, sorrow, and pleasure, but also natural phenomena and scenes. It is an exciting rhythm based mainly on the Gutgeori jangdan (rhythmic pattern, 12/8) but it is a rhythm that you can feel the sadness in it. In particular, various onomatopoeia and mimic words appear in this song, making you think about the fun of singing and the origin of the language. Therefore, this study attempted to examine that more effective singing is becoming more effective by increasing empathy through various expressions of onomatopoeia and mimic words. • The purpose of this study is to examine the neuroanatomical areas related with onomatopoeia (sound-imitated word). Using the block-designed fMRI, whole-brain images (N=11) were acquired during lexical decisions. We examined how the lexical information initiates brain activation during visual word recognition. The onomatopoeic word recognition activated the bilateral occipital lobes and superior mid-temporal gyrus.

  • Authoring tools for sketching the motion of characters to be animated have been studied. However the natural interface for sound editing has not been sufficiently studied. In this paper, I present a novel method that sound sample is selected by speaking sound-imitation words(onomatopoeia). Experiment with the method based on statistical models, which is generally used for pattern recognition, showed up to 97% in the accuracy of recognition. In addition, to address the difficulty of data collection for newly enrolled sound samples, the GLR Test based on only one sample of each sound-imitation word showed almost the same accuracy as the previous method.

  • This study sought to explore the types of predictable pattern books are suitable for reading aloud, the differences between English and translated Korean picture books in terms of their characteristics of speakability and the meaning of sentences. This study investigated a total of 112 picture books. The predictable pattern types were analyzed specifically, compared with onomatopoeia, mimetic words, repetition, rhyme, the shift of sentence and style types. The results indicated that predictable pattern books could be classified into eight types and the number of sentences in translated books increased owing to the difference of sentence structure. In terms of speakability, words in repetition, onomatopoeia and mimetic words represented higher frequency except rhyme because of the difference of characteristics of the two languages. Furthermore, translations used strategies of the shift in sentence and style types for speakability. These findings demonstrate that predictable pattern books can serve as good materials to read aloud for young children not only in terms of English picture books but also translated books regardless of concerns regarding their speakability.

  • Based on the previous analysis by Wanghongjun(2008), this paper applies Optimality Theory (OT) to the field of partial reduplication in Korea to increase its scientific validity. Toward this end, I propose an alternative analysis of Korean partial reduplication, applied as a single process of prefixation. Reduplicated words by prefixation are divided into two types: with a heavy syllable of the stem, and another with the stem. The two types of partial reduplication are closely related by the sound features. In addition, I discussed Chinese partial reduplication from a prefixation perspective within the framework of OT and performed contrastive analysis of Korean and Standard Chinese processes of reduplication by focusing on constrained rankings. As a result, the alternative analysis showed a systematic relationship among the reduplicated words in Korean and Standard Chinese. Lastly, I explained that the coronal /t/ and liquid /l/ have a special functional hierarchy in both languages. This study can be re-explained based on the framework of OT according to a few major constraints, involving MAX-BR, MAX-IO. Their rankings show the adequacy of analysis.

  • As digital video communication technology advances and global interactions become more frequent, cultural barriers between countries are gradually diminishing. Subtitles in TV content reflect the writing systems and cultural contexts of different countries, aiding in the comprehension of program content. However, when comparing subtitles between countries with different writing systems, variations in format and the representation of onomatopoeic expressions become apparent. Therefore, this study focuses on analyzing the differences and peculiarities in the onomatopoeic subtitles of Korean and Chinese variety shows, which are based on distinct writing systems. Through this analysis, the study aims to understand how differences in writing systems influence the representation of onomatopoeic subtitles and viewer experience. This investigation is expected to provide creative inspiration for variety show producers and facilitate cross-cultural communication.
