The Impact of Leading Economic Indicators on the Export of ASEAN Countries

  • The article applies the ECM - ARDL model to examine the relationship between economic indicators and the existence of the disease in the long run of 10 ASEAN countries from 2000 to 2019. There are two models: The first model investigates the impact of GDP per capita, net inflow FDI, unemployment rate, and inflation rate on the proportion of export to GDP of ASEAN countries, the second model is similar to the first one but adds one more variable to the independent variable list - 'the variable for disease'. The results prove the long-run effect of GDP per capita, FDI, unemployment and inflation rate on export of the selected countries, though individual country shows differences in the sign and magnitude of these impacts. Surprisingly, the number of people suffering from disease does not affect the export of all selected countries as expected. The results of the two models also indicate that the disequilibrium in the short run converges to the equilibrium in the long run with a high proportion, especially in the case of Cambodia and the Philippines, with the rate of 95.65% and 151.94%, respectively. The findings can be useful for policymakers in promulgating efficient policies to enhance the trading activities of the selected countries.

  • Among the various artificial neural networks the backpropagation network (BPN) has become a standard one. One of the components in a neural network is an activating function or a transfer function of which a representative function is a sigmoid. We have discovered that by updating the slope parameter of a sigmoid function simultaneous with the weights could improve performance of a BPN.

  • An active control for the swing of crane systems is very important for increasing the productivity. This article introduces the control for the position and the swing of a crane using the fuzzy learning method. Because the crane is a multi-variable system, learning is done to control both position and swing of the crane. Also the fuzzy control rules are separately acquired with the loading and unloading situation of the crane for more accurate control. The result of simulations shows that the crane is just controlled for a very large swing angle of 1 radian within nearly one cycle.

  • Frequency domain adaptive filter is effective to communication fields of many computational requirements. In this paper we propose a new variable step size algorithms which improves the convergence speed and reduces computational complexity for frequency domain adaptive filter. we compared MSE of the proposed algorithms with one of normalized FLMS using computer simulation of adaptive noise canceler based on synthesis speech.

  • We consider the nonlinear biharmonic equation with coefficient exponential growth term and Dirichlet boundary condition. We show that the nonlinear equation has at least one bounded solution under the suitable conditions. We obtain this result by the variational method, generalized mountain pass theorem and the critical point theory of the associated functional.

  • In this paper, we consider variable structure controller design of a active magnetic bearing(AMB). In particular, we design a switching hyperplane, considering coupling characteristic among each magnet. This method is designed by applying decentralized control method. Controller design consist of two factors that is, one is linear control part to drive state variables to zero asymptotically and the other is a nonlinear controller part to maintain within neighborhood of switching hyperplane. Finally, A control method designed here is checked by simulation, which shows good results.

  • The conventional BMA is performed with the fixed block size. For better performance at low bitrate, the block size is required to be large in relatively stationary area, while small in moving area. Thus, in this paper, a video coding technique using variable block size model is proposed. It decides the block size based on the degree of local motion defined by the local mean and variance of blocks. Computer simulation shows that the proposed method gives comparable performance to the conventional one with less bits required for motion vector coding.

Variable selection for multiclassi cation by LS-SVM

  • For multiclassification, it is often the case that some variables are not important while some variables are more important than others. We propose a novel algorithm for selecting such relevant variables for multiclassification. This algorithm is base on multiclass least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM), which uses results of multiclass LS-SVM using one-vs-all method. Experimental results are then presented which indicate the performance of the proposed method.

  • In this paper we consider an approach to a formal linearization for time-variant nonlinear systems. A time-variant nonlinear sysetm is assumed to be described by a time-variant nonlinear differential equation. For this system, we introduce a coordinate transformation function which is composed of the Chebyshev polynomials. Using Chebyshev expansion to the state variable and Laguerre expansion to the time variable, the time-variant nonlinear sysetm is transformed into the time-variant linear one with respect to the above transformation function.
