The lingual branch of the trigeminal nerve transmitts general sensation from anterior two thirds of the tongue, also bearing within sheath fibers of chordal tympani branch of the facial nerve. Chorda tympani nerve carries special taste sensations from the anterior two thirds of the tongue and sub-serves the existing trigeminal pathway. Chorda tympani nerve and the lingual nerve innervate to fungiform papilla and distribution of fungiform papilla on tongue dorsum is variable according to anatomical location. The purpose of this report is to assess that the relationship of the number of fungiform papilla and the ability of two-point discrimination of tongu dorsum. Twenty-six healthy students(male:female=13:13) whose mean age was $30{\pm}3$ participated in our study. Two-point discrimination thresholds were measured to evaluate the spatial acuity of touch sensation. The measurement was carried out at the tip and posterolateral region of dorsal tongue. After two-point discrimination test, we took the pictures of their dorsal tongue dyed with methylene blue with digital camera. There were no significant differences between the number of fungiform papilla and the two-point discrimination threshold. But, we found that there were the intraregional and intersubject variations of spatial acuity of the tongue. During the test on the posterolateral region of the dorsal tongue, students appealed the difficulty of discrimination of one point and two point.
Statement of problem. More than 70% of patients who need the implant supported restoration are parially edentulous. The principles of design for implant supported fixed partial denture in mandibular posterior region are many and varied. Jurisdiction for their use is usually based on clinical evaluation. There are several areas or interest regarding the design of implant supported fixed partial denture in mandibular posterior region. 1) Straight and tripod configuration in implant placement, 2) Two restoration types such as individualized and splinted restorations. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to compare the amount and distribution of stress around the implant fixtures placed in the mandibular posterior region with two different arrangements and to evaluate the effects of splinting using the photoelastic stress analysis. Material & methods. 1) Production of study model: Mandibular partially edentulous model was waxed-up and duplicated with silicone and two models were poured in stone. 2) Fixture installation and photoelastic model construction: Using surveyor(Ney, USh), 3 fixtures(two 4.0 $\times$13 mm, one 5.0$\times$10 mm, Lifecore, USA) were insta)led in straight & tripod configurations. Silicone molds were made and poured in photoelastic resin (PL-2. Measurements group, USA). 3) Prostheses construction: Four 3-unit bridges (Type III gold alloy, Dongmyung co., Korea) were produced with nonhexed and hexed UCLA abutments and fitted with conventional methods. The abutments were tightened with 30 Ncm torque and the static loads were applied at 12 points of the occlusal surface. 4) Photoelastic stress analysis : The polarizer analyzer system with digital camera(S-2 Pro, Fujifilm, Japan) was used to take the photoelastic fringes and analysed using computer analysis program. Results. Solitary hexed UCLA restoration developed different stress patterns between two implant arrangement configurations, but there were no stress transfer to adjacent implants from the loaded implant in both configurations. However splinted restorations showed lesser amount of stresses in the loaded implants and showed stress transfer to adjacent implants in both configurations. Solitary hexed UCLA restoration with tripod configuration developed higher stresses in anterior and middle implants under loading than implants with straight configurations. Splintied 3 unit fixed partial dentures with tripod configuration showed higher stress development in posterior implant under loading but there were no obvious differences between two configurations. Conclusions. The tripod configuration of implant arrangement didn't show any advantages over the straight configuration. Splinting of 3 unit bridges with nonhexed UCLA abutments showed less stress development around the fixtures. Solitary hexed UCLA restoration developed tilting of implant fixture under offset loads.

The purpose of this study was to assess the intra-rater, inter-rater and test-retest reliability and validity of frontal plane lower extremity alignment estimated from a rasterstereographic method using ABW-Mapper. Eighteen subjects participated in this study. The S angle (stereographic angle-frontal plane lower extremity alignment estimated from a rasterstereographic method) in standing was measured throughout the two sessions with one week interval by two different readers. In the first session, a reader measured S angle twice per subject with a short break in-between. The Q-angle (quadriceps angle) was measured using a standard goniometer from a photography taken through digital camera with the participant standing in the same position as in the S angle measurement. The HKA(hip-knee-ankle) angle was measured from a computer based digital radiograph with the computerized measurement software. Reliability was tested using intraclass correlation coefficients(ICC). Validity was tested using a Pearson's correlation coefficient. Excellent intra-rater(ICC=0.956~0.974), inter-rater(ICC=0.962), test-retest reliability (ICC=0.945) were demonstrated. There were strong negative correlations between S angle and Q-angle (r=-0.739), and between S angle and HKA angle (r=-0.702). Therefore, the S angle measured using a rasterstereographic mapper may be used to as a preliminary or supplementary tool to evaluate and study LE alignment in the frontal plane in relation to HKA angle or Q-angle.
A variety files made of stainless steel (S-S) or nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) are used during endodontic treatment. The purpose of tt)is study was to evaluate the corrosion susceptibility of S-S and Ni-Ti endodontic files. Three brands of files were used for this study: $K-flex^{(R)}$ S-S files (Maillefer, USA), $Profile^{(R)}$ Ni-Ti files (Maillefer, USA), $K-3^{(R)}$ Ni-Ti files (SybronEndo. USA). 120 files of each brands (21mm, ISO size $\#20$) were divided into 12 groups according to 1) sterilization methods using Autoclave or Ethylene Oxide (E-O) gas, 2) Irrigation solutions using $5.25\%$ NaOCl or Saline, 3) the number of sterilization (1, 5, 10 times), After above procedures, each of the files was inspected by three examiners with a light microscope and camera at X25. Each file was judged and ranked according to the following criteria: 0;, no corrosion, 1; mild corrosion, 2; moderate corrosion, and 3; severe corrosion. The files of high score were examined under the Scanning Electron Microscope. Data were statistically analyzed with the Kruskal-Wallis test (p < 0.05). Most of the ten time-autoclaved files had showed mild to moderate corrosion. But, one or five time-autoclaved files did not show corrosive surface. NaOCl treatment and E-O gas sterilization did not influence on corrosion. There was a significant difference in corrosion susceptibility between sterilization methods and the number of autoclaving. However, there was no significant difference between brands and file materials.

Recently, concerns relating to the maintenance of large structures have been increased. In addition, the number of large structures that need to be evaluated for their structural safety due to natural disasters and structural deterioration has been rapidly increasing. It is common for the structural characteristics of an older large structure to differ from the characteristics in the initial design stage, and changes in dynamic characteristics may result from a reduction in stiffness due to cracks on the materials. The process of deterioration of such structures enables the detection of damaged locations, as well as a quantitative evaluation. One of the typical measuring instruments used for the monitoring of bridges and buildings is the dynamic measurement system. Conventional dynamic measurement systems require considerable cabling to facilitate a direct connection between sensor and DAQ logger. For this reason, a method of measuring structural responses from a remote distance without the mounted sensors is needed. In terms of non-contact methods that are applicable to dynamic response measurement, the methods using the doppler effect of a laser or a GPS are commonly used. However, such methods could not be generally applied to bridge structures because of their costs and inaccuracies. Alternatively, a method using a visual image can be economical as well as feasible for measuring vibration signals of inaccessible bridge structures and extracting their dynamic characteristics. Many studies have been conducted using camera visual signals instead of conventional mounted sensors. However, these studies have been focused on measuring displacement response by an image processing technique after recording a position of the target mounted on the structure, in which the number of measurement targets may be limited. Therefore, in this study, a model experiment was carried out to verify the measurement algorithm for measuring multi-point displacement responses by using a DIC (Digital Image Correlation) technique.

In this paper we propose the technique for tracking players and a ball and for obtaining players' ground traces using image mosaic in general soccer sequences. Here, general soccer sequences mean the case that there is no extreme zoom-in or zoom-out of TV camera. Obtaining player's ground traces requires that the following three main problems be solved. There main problems: (1) ground field extraction (2) player and ball tracking and team indentification (3) player positioning. The region of ground field is extracted on the basis of color information. Players are tracked by template matching and Kalman filtering. Occlusion reasoning between overlapped players in done by color histogram back-projection. To find the location of a player, a ground model is constructed and transformation between the input images and the field model is computed using four or more feature points. But, when feature points extracted are insufficient, image-based mosaic technique is applied. By this image-to-model transformation, the traces of players on the ground model can be determined. We tested our method on real TV soccer sequence and the experimental results are given.

This paper proposes a method for vehicle license plate detection using mathematical morphology and symmetry. In general, the shape, color, size, and position of license plate are regulated by authorities for a better recognition by human. Among them, the relatively big intensity difference between the letter and the background region of the license plate and the symmetry about the plate are major discriminating factors for the detection. For the first, the opened image is subtracted from the closed image to intensify the region of plate using the rectangular structuring element which has the width of the distance between two characters. Second the subtraction image is average filtered with the mask size of the plate. Third, the column maximum graph of the average filtered image is acquired and the symmetry of the graph is measured at every position. Fourth, the peaks of the average filtered image are searched. Finally, the plate is assumed to be positioned around the one of local maxima nearest to the point of the highest symmetry. About 1,000 images taken by speed regulation camera are used for the experiment. The experimental result shows that the plate detection rate is about 93%.
In this paper we propose both the construction of image DB including information on the shooting location and direction of the captured outdoor images and the efficient retrieval method from the DB. Furthermore, for the automatic extraction of the location and direction information, we suggest to have the Digital Camera equipped with an expandable GPS modulo which has a function to calculate the location and direction and also to utilize GPS IFD tags in the EXIF. Then that will make it possible for us to retrieve quickly and precisely the target image with its geography and other objects on the ground included. In the previous retrieval method based only on the location, we eel some extra useless images due to the fact that all the images in the ROI(Region Of Interest) are searched on one condition, radius. However, with the proposed method in this paper, we can not only retrieve all the images selectively within the ROI but also achieve nearly 100% of precision when we search for the target images within DOI(Direction Of Interest) with another condition, direction, added. Applying this method to an image retrieval system, we can classify or retrieve natural images based on the location and direction information, which, in turn, will be vitally useful to diverse industrial fields such as disaster alarm system, fire and disaster prevention system, traffic information system, and so forth.

Today, a number of CCTV on the highway is to observe the flow of traffics. There have been a number of studies where traffic data (e.g., the speed of vehicles and the amount of traffic on the road) are transferred back to the centralized server so that an appropriate action can be taken. This paper introduces a system that detects the changes of traffic flows caused by an accident or unexpected stopping (i.e., vehicle remains idle) by monitoring each lane separately. The traffic flows of each lane are level spacing curve that shows Wigner distribution for location vector. Applying calogero-moser system and Hamiltonian system, probability equation for each level-spacing curve is derived. The high level of modification of the signal means that the lane is in accident situation. This is different from previous studies in that it does more than looking for the signal from only one lane, now it is able to detect an accident in entire flow of traffic. In process of monitoring traffic flow of each lane, when camera recognizes a shadow of vehicle as a vehicle, it will affect the accident detecting capability. To prevent this from happening, the study introduces how to get rid of such shadow. The system using Basian network method is being compared for capability evaluation of the system of the study. As a result, the system of the study appeared to be better in performance in detecting the modification of traffic flow caused by idle vehicle.
An experimental study to investigate the condensing heat transfer characteristics of small diameter horizontal double pipe heat exchangers with R-22 and R-410A was performed. Experimental facility was constructed to calculate and observe HTC(heat transfer coefficients), flow patterns and pressure drop. The main components include a liquid pump, an evaporator, a condenser(test section), a sight-glass, pressure taps and measurement apparatus. Two pipes of different diameters are tested; One 5.35 mm ID 0.5 mm thick, the other 3.36 mm ID 0.7 mm thick. The mass flow rate ranged from 200 to $500\;ks/m^2{\cdot}s$ and heating capacity were form 1.0 to 2.4 kW. The flow patterns of R-22 and R-410A were observed with a high speed camera through the sight-glass. The tests revealed that HTC of R-410A was higher than that of R-22 by maximum 5%. Annular pattern was observed for the most cases but stratified flow was also detected when x<0.2. The pressure drop in 3.36 mm ID pipe was higher than that of 5.35 mm by $30{\sim}50%$. Comparing with previous correlations such as Shah, Fujii and Soliman's, Fujii' showed the best good agreement with my data with a maximum deviation of 40%.
