Implementation of HMM Based Speech Recognizer with Medium Vocabulary Size Using TMS320C6201 DSP (TMS320C6201 DSP를 이용한 HMM 기반의 음성인식기 구현)

  • In this paper, we focused on the real time implementation of a speech recognition system with medium size of vocabulary considering its application to a mobile phone. First, we developed the PC based variable vocabulary word recognizer having the size of program memory and total acoustic models as small as possible. To reduce the memory size of acoustic models, linear discriminant analysis and phonetic tied mixture were applied in the feature selection process and training HMMs, respectively. In addition, state based Gaussian selection method with the real time cepstral normalization was used for reduction of computational load and robust recognition. Then, we verified the real-time operation of the implemented recognition system on the TMS320C6201 EVM board. The implemented recognition system uses memory size of about 610 kbytes including both program memory and data memory. The recognition rate was 95.86% for ETRI 445DB, and 96.4%, 97.92%, 87.04% for three kinds of name databases collected through the mobile phones.

  • This study was conducted to understand research trends of HR Analytics (HRA) in Korea and to suggest future research directions. First, a comparative analysis was conducted by classifying six areas of recruitment on-board, work environment, performance evaluation, retention, and exit/retirement building on the employee life cycle framework. The results indicate that first, the distribution of detailed research topics in Korean HRA research has similar to that of international research. Second, Korean HRA studies related to employee training and development function are insufficient. Third, the scope and the method of machine learning are becoming enriched. Finally Korean HRA studies are still in the technical domain and toward entering the predictive analysis domain.

Combining Ability for Morphological and Biochemical Characters in Mulberry (Morns spp.) under Salinity Stress

  • A line x tester analysis was carried out in mulberry (Morns spp.) under different salinity levels to determine the changes in the genetic interaction of various morpho-biochemical characters. Five mulberry genotypes, 3 females and 2 males, differing in salt tolerance were selected for the study. Clones of these parents along with clones of the F1 hybrids were planted in earthen pots and subjected to different levels of salinity (0.0%, 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75% and 1.00% NaCl). Data on morphological and biochemical characters were subjected to line x tester analysis. The result revealed significant variation among the parents studied. The prominence of non-additive gene effect under control condition suggests the need for well chalked out breeding program to exploit the non-fixable variance of components for improvement of plant height, leaf size and leaf yield, chlorophyll and photosynthesis in mulberry. However, under salinity stress a shift from non-additive gene effect to additive gene effect for the above said character further suggests the need for a change in breeding strategy. The general combining ability (GCA) analysis has identified English black as the best combiner among the parents and the specific combining ability analysis (SCA) found crosses of English black X C776 and Rotndiloba x Mandalaya were good for Plant height and leaf size and English black X C776 and Rotundiloba x C776 were good for biochemical proline and chlorophyll. From the performance of parents and their crosses under different salinity levels and also under normal cultural conditions it is concluded that in mulberry different approaches are required to develop varieties for the irrigated and saline conditions.

FPGA Implementation of SVM Engine for Training and Classification (기계학습 및 분류를 위한 SVM 엔진의 FPGA 구현)

  • SVM, a machine learning method, is widely used in image processing for it's excellent generalization performance. However, to add other data to the pre-trained data of the system, we need to train the entire system again. This procedure takes a lot of time, especially in embedded environment, and results in low performance of SVM. In this paper, we implemented an SVM trainer and classifier in an FPGA to solve this problem. We parlallelized the repeated operations inside SVM and modified the exponential operations of the kernel function to perform fixed point modelling. We implemented the proposed hardware on Xilinx ZC 706 evaluation board and used TSR algorithm to verify the FPGA result. It takes about 5 seconds for the proposed hardware to train 2,000 data samples and 16.54ms for classification for $1360{\times}800$ resolution in 100MHz frequency, respectively.

  • Most railroad accidents are due to human errors. In particular, most of the causes of these accidents are faults of an engine driver, such as lack of signal confirmation, insecure braking, driving by guess or force of habit. This paper identifies a problem(s) by analyzing accidents for the past 10 years and also seeks a solution to train good engine drivers in order to prevent railroad accidents. In summary, what is needed are: 1) proper placement of various manpower, 2) proper training of engine drivers, 3) proper legislation for a 2-man on board system, and 4) proper reformation of personnel management.

  • This paper report on the design and implementation of a 9.6kbps DSSS CDMA modem for a medium speed wireless link. The proposed modem provides a general purpose I/O interface with a microprocessor. The I/O interface consists of 8-bit data bus, chip enable, read/write, and interrupt pins. In transmit block, the 8-bit data delivered from the I/O interface buffer is converted to 9.6kbps serial data, which are spreaded into 76.8kcps with 8-bit PN code generated inside the modem by direct sequence method. An 8-bit training sequence is preceded in the data frame for data synchronization in receiver. In receiver block the PN code is synchronized from the received data spreaded to 76.8kcps and find the data timing from the 8-bit training sequence. We have used the Early-and-Late integration method. The modem has been implemented and verified using a Xilix FPGA board and has been fabricated as an ASIC CHIP through Hynir $0.25{\mu}m$ CMOS. The multiple accessing method is DSSS CDMA.

A Study on development of personal protection service (신변보호업무 발전방안에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to find the development of the personal protection business plan based on the problem that guards are now aware of personal protection service. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, we analyzed the data after expert survey and interview conducted by seven experts engaged in personal protection services more than 15 years. The guard who perform personal protection service proposed a development plan of personal protection services as follows. First, the current education system for new employees' training is required to improve the educational program of 40 hours in subjects related to personal protection duties by reorganization Second, the personal protection service training for guards also appropriate to switch to 8-hour training program for three months through an educational organization controlled by country. Third, the personal protection guards should be proceeding the practical programs required in the field and quality education in the different section by competent and professional instructors. Fourth, it should be revised Regulating that on the site of collective civil petition including in Events related to events across the board in the security services law. Fifth, there needs to be a change of recognition between police and private security firms, and to be set up the organization for supervision of management by police and private security firms jointly. Sixth, there needs to be organized a subcommittee which is consisting of experts in each task on Korea Security Association, and founded Korea Personal Protection Association for development associated with the personal protection service and to protect the rights of personal protection guards.

Preventive Measures of Battery Explosion in Lifeboat (구명정 배터리의 폭발사고 예방을 위한 대안)

  • Emergency batteries on board are used for stairs, pathway lights, and emergency communications during alternator black-out. In addition, there are engine start-up batteries in lifeboats. Typically, these batteries are installed under the Classification Rules. However, Since batteries inside life boats are installed in a confined narrow space, it is difficult to perform regular maintenances. Also, even though there are air vents in the life boat, the temperature inside the life boat often reaches above $65^{\circ}C$, which is much higher than the regulation temperature, $45^{\circ}C$. In this paper, we will summarize the accident of battery explosion occurred in MMU training ship, and possible causes. We will propose preventive measures of battery explosions as well as the revision of the regulation.

  • Polysomnography is an essential methodology for diagnosing and following up sleep disorders and doing researches on human sleep. Sleep medicine, mainly with the utilization of polysomnographic techniques, has developed itself as one of the promising fields in the 21st century medicine. Korea is not an exception in importing and developing sleep medicine into the conventional medicine. However, it still remains to be clarified what polysomnography is for and how it should be done, considering the relatively recent introduction of sleep medicine into Korea. The author, being a board-certified sleep medicine specailist, having experienced spreading out sleep medicine within Korea for the past four years, and having recently set up a major sleep study facility in Korea at Seoul National University Hospital, attempts in this introductory critical article to review the essential issues related to quality assurance in polysomnographic study of human sleep. Also, unconditional introduction of "automated" sleep scoring system, which has been found to have significantly reduced reliability in various studies including the author's own, is critically reviewed. The author suggests that quality assurance and training program should be initiated and established by a responsible sleep medicine-related organization such as the Korean Association of Sleep Medicine and Psychophysiology.

Evaluation of Microbiological Hazards of Baking Utensils and Environment of Bakeries (일부 베이커리업체의 조리용기.기구 및 작업환경에 대한 미생물적 위해분석)

  • This study was performed to describe the overall sanitation of baking utensils and equipments, employees, and environment in 9 bakeries. Microbiological tests on employees, utensils and equipments, were done according to standard procedure and included total plate count, coliforms, fungi and Staphylococcus aureus.. Microbiological testing is a value in determining hazards for developing a HACCP plan but were not detected throat and employee's hands before use. Staphylococcus aureus was detected nasal cavity and employees's hands after use. Employee's apron after use was detected fungi and coliform and was risk factor of cross-contamination to bread or cookies et al. Generally hygienic conditions of pan, kitchen board, knife, brush, and wooden scoop were worse than those of other baking utensils such as tray, bread tweezers, dusting brush and dish cloth. And refrigerator, freezer and fermentation chamber were detected fungi and coliforms. Total plate count of heating table, working table, distribution table, washbowl and refrigerator was increased in 2nd period. Temperature of refrigerator was 10.43$^{\circ}C$ and strict temperature control of refrigerations needs. Therefore, baking utensils and equipments were reguraly need to sterilize and clean. Additionary, it need to practice the effective sanitation education and training program for the bakery managers and employees.
