  • This bio-acoustic study was aimed at classifying the different porcine wasting diseases through sound analysis with emphasis given to differences in the acoustic footprints of coughs in porcine circo virus type 2 (PCV2), porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (MH) - infected pigs from a normal cough. A total of 36 pigs (Yorkshire${\times}$Landrace${\times}$Duroc) with average weight ranging between 25-30 kg were studied, and blood samples of the suspected infected pigs were collected and subjected to serological analysis to determine PCV2, PRRS and MH. Sounds emitted by coughing pigs were recorded individually for 30 minutes depending on cough attacks by a digital camcorder placed within a meter distance from the animal. Recorded signals were digitalized in a PC using the Cool Edit Program, classified through labeling method, and analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and discriminant analysis. Input features after classification showed that normal cough had the highest pitch level compared to other infectious diseases (p<0.002) but not statistically different from PRRS and MH. PCV2 differed statistically (p<0.002) from the normal cough and PRRS but not from MH. MH had the highest intensity and all coughs differed statistically from each other (p<0.0001). PCV2 was statistically different from others (p<0.0001) in formants 1, 2, 3 and 4. There was no statistical difference in duration between different porcine diseases and the normal cough (p>0.6863). Mechanisms of cough sound creation in the airway could be used to explain these observed acoustic differences and these findings indicated that the existence of acoustically different cough patterns depend on causes or the animals' respiratory system conditions. Conclusively, differences in the status of lungs results in different cough sounds. Finally, this study could be useful in supporting an early detection method based on the on-line cough counter algorithm for the initial diagnosis of sick animals in breeding farms.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new car engine sealing inspection system based on image processing and understanding. The car engine sealing inspection plays very important role for protecting leakage caused by inappropriate sealing, which is a crucial point for productivity of car engines. The proposed inspection system has been aimed to enhance the previously proposed sealing inspection systems based on image processing, which have high computation complexity and low performance for correctly inspecting some contamination by oil with similar color with that of sealing. Moreover, the previously proposed system has a difficulty in installing the camera system on the sealing machine. The proposed system considers a difference of images before and after sealing obtained from one static camera. By utilizing a difference of images, the proposed system shows very robust performance using a proposed simple depth checking algorithm for some contamination cases by oil with similar color with that of sealing and the total inspection system is simple and cheap to implement. According to the experiments conducted in a real car product line, the proposed inspection system shows better inspection performance and needs smaller implementation cost than three other previously proposed system working in current car sealing inspection systems.

  • A potential field method for solving the problem of path planning based on global and local information for a mobile robot moving among a set of stationary obstacles is described. The concept of various method used path planning is used design a planning strategy. A real human living area is constructed by many moving and imminence obstacles. Home service mobile robot must avoid many obstacles instantly. A path that safe and attraction towards the goal is chosen. The potential function depends on distance from the goal and heuristic function relies on surrounding environments. Three additional combined methods are proposed to apply to human living area, calibration robots position by measured surrounding environment and adapted home service robots. In this work, we proposed the application of various path planning theory to real area, human living. First, we consider potential field method. Potential field method is attractive method, but that method has great problem called local minimum. So we proposed intermediate point in real area. Intermediate point was set in doorframe and between walls there is connect other room or other area. Intermediate point is very efficiency in computing path. That point is able to smaller area, area divided by intermediate point line. The important idea is intermediate point is permanent point until destruction house or apartment house. Second step is move robot with sensing on front of mobile robot. With sensing, mobile robot recognize obstacle and judge moving obstacle. If mobile robot is reach the intermediate point, robot sensing the surround of point. Mobile robot has data about intermediate point, so mobile robot is able to calibration robots position and direction. Third, we gave uncertainty to robot and obstacles. Because, mobile robot was motion and sensing ability is not enough to control. Robot and obstacle have uncertainty. So, mobile robot planed safe path planning to collision free. Finally, escape local minimum, that has possibility occur robot do not work. Local minimum problem solved by virtual obstacle method. Next is some supposition in real living area.

  • Biometrics is getting more and more attention in recent years for security and other concerns. So far, only fingerprint recognition has seen limited success for on-line security check, since other biometrics verification and identification systems require more complicated and expensive acquisition interfaces and recognition processes. Hand-Geometry has been used for biometric verification and identification because of its acquisition convenience and good performance for verification and identification performance. Hence, it can be a good candidate for online checks. Therefore, this paper proposes a Hand-Geometry recognition system based on geometrical features of hand. From anatomical point of view, human hand can be characterized by its length, width, thickness, geometrical composition, shapes of the palm, and shape and geometry of the fingers. This paper proposes thirty relevant features for a Hand-Geometry recognition system. However, during experimentation, it was discovered that length measured from the tip of the finger was not a reliable feature. Hence, we propose a new technique based on Genetic Algorithm for extraction of the center of nail bottom, in order to use it for the length feature.

  • The local governments of major cities in Korea are giving focus on public transportation to reduce congestion and improve accessibility in city areas. In this regards, the proper measurement of accessibility is now a key policy requirement for reorganizing the public transport network. Public transport routing problems, however, are considered to be highly complicated since a multi-mode travel generates different combinations of accessibility. While most of the previous research efforts on measuring transport accessibility are found at zone-levels, an alternative approach at a finer scale such as bus links and stops is presented in this study. We proposes a method to compute the optimal route choice of origin-destination pairs and measure the accessibility of the chosen modes combination based on topological configuration. The genetic algorithm is used for the computation of the journey paths, whereas the space syntax theory is used for the accessibility. This study used node-link data in GIS instead of axial lines which are manually drawn in space syntax. The resulting accessibilities of bus stops are calibrated by O-D survey data and the proposed process is tested on a CBD of Seoul.

  • Analysis methods in the power system are static analysis, dynamic analysis and online analysis, offline analysis. The static analysis is used for the existing power system analysis method and the static analysis is mainly used for PSS / E. However, in the real system where the value changes in real time which we are using, dynamic analysis is required which can be analyzed in real time for accurate analysis. Therefore, attention is focused on EMS (Energy Management System) and importance is increasing. Among the various EMS systems, we will cover state estimation, which is a static on-line analysis that can receive and interpret data from the acquisition point in real time. DC systems are spreading in various fields such as DC load, DC distribution, renewable energy. As such, much attention and attention are focused on the DC system. In this paper, we have studied the feasibility through the case study and the interpretation of the state estimation that can be applied to the DC system.

  • One of the most important topics about the safety of electrical and electronic system is the reliability of the wiring system. The Time-Frequency Domain Reflectometry(TFDR) is a state-of-the-art system for detecting and estimating of the fault on a wiring. In this paper, We've considered the load resistance measurement on a coaxial cable using TFDR in a way of expanded application. The TFDR system was built using commercial Pci extensions for Instrumentation(PXI) and LabVIEW. The proposed real time TFDR system consisted of the reference signal design, signal generation, signal acquisition, algorithm execution and results display part. To implement real time system, all of the parts were programmed by the LabVIEW which is one of the graphical programming languages. Using the application software implemented by the LabVIEW, we were able to design a proper reference signal which is suitable for target cable and control not only the arbitrary waveform generator in the signal generation part but alto the digital storage oscilloscope in the signal acquisition part. By using the TFDR real time system with the terminal resistor on the target cable, we carried out load impedance measurement experiments. The experimental results showed that the proposed system are able not only to detect the location of impedance discontinuity on the cable but also to estimate the load resistance with high accuracy.

  • Dentist can obtain 3D anatomical information without distortion and information loss by using dental Computed Tomography scan images on line, and also can make the preoperative plan of implant placement or orthodontics. It is essential to segment individual tooth for making an accurate diagnosis. However, it is very difficult to distinguish the difference in the brightness between the dental and adjacent area. Especially, the root of a tooth is very elusive to automatically identify in dental CT images because jawbone normally adjoins the tooth. In the paper, we propose a method of automatically tooth region segmentation, which can identify the root of a tooth clearly. This algorithm separate the tooth from dental CT scan images by using Seeded Region Growing method on dental crown and by using Level-set method on dental root respectively. By using the proposed method, the results can be acquired average 19.2% better accuracy, compared to the result of the previous methods.

  • Public libraries should plan and provide services that satisfy various needs of the local community users. In order to understand library users, it is essential first to grasp the service areas of libraries. The current service areas of public libraries are primarily set based on administrative boundaries of the areas where the libraries are located, which limits the consideration of actual user access patterns to the libraries. In this study, we aim to create service areas that incorporate the transportation and geographical characteristics of the library's surroundings and reflect the access patterns of library users. Specifically, we utilized street network data from 502 libraries in 7 metropolitan cities to determine the travel distance and time from user locations, considering gradients, to the libraries. Subsequently, we applied the shortest path algorithm to generate service areas within a 30-minute walking or driving range. As a result, we confirmed that there are differences in the service area patterns of libraries depending on topographical factors, and this better reflects the realistic conditions of library access compared to service areas based on straight-line distances. This method of generating service areas contributes to a more accurate understanding of library users' numbers, characteristics, and needs.

  • The purpose of this study is to extract lineaments in the southeastern part of the Gaeum Fault System, and to understand their characteristics and a relationship between them and fault activation. The lineaments were extracted using a multi-layered analysis based on a digital elevation model (5 m resolution), aerial photos, and satellite images. First-grade lineaments inferred as an high-activity along them were classified based on the displacement of the Quaternary deposits and the distribution of fault-related landforms. The results of classifying the first-grade lineaments were verified by fieldwork and electrical resistivity survey. In the study area of 510 km2, a total of 222 lineaments was identified, and their total length was 333.4 km. Six grade lineaments were identified, and their total length was 11.2 km. The lineaments showed high-density distribution in the region along the Geumcheon, Gaeum, Ubo fault, and a boundary of the Hwasan cauldron consisting the Gaeum Fault System. They generally have WNW-ESE trend, which is the same direction with the strike of Gaeum Fault System. Electrical resistivity survey was conducted on eight survey lines crossing the first-grade lineament. A low-resistivity zone, which is assumed to be a fault damage zone, has been identified across almost all survey lines (except for only one survey line). The visual (naked eyes) detecting of the lineament was evaluated to be less objectivity than the automatic extraction using the algorithm. However, the results of electrical resistivity survey showed that first-grade lineament extracted by visual detecting was 83% reliable for inferred fault detection. These results showed that objective visual detection results can be derived from multi-layered analysis based on tectonic geomorphology.
