  • Coastal wave and tide information is very important in various occasions for port and harbor engineers, in the stages such as port and harbor planning, maritime structure design, maritime construction management, and coastal disaster study This paper introduces recent improvement of Japanese coastal wave-tide observation and information system named as NOWPHAS (Nationwide Ocean Wave information network for Ports and HArbourS).   • This study investigates the effects of tide, wind and oceanic currents on oil spill dispersions through a series of numerical floats tracking experiments on the Sea Prince oil spill incident occurred in 1995 using a 3-dimensional high resolution ocean circulation model. For that, a total of four experimental cases (experiment with tide, wind and oceanic currents, experiment with tide and oceanic currents, experiment with wind and oceanic currents, and experiment with tide and wind) were compared. It could be seen that results from experiment involving all external forces showed better agreement with the observed pattern of oil slick movement than other cases. The oceanic currents acted to drive floats to move to the western channel of the Korea straits and wind accelerated the eastward movement of floats in the early stage of the incident. Tidal currents played significant role in the horizontal dispersion of floats.

진해만 조류의 현장관측 및 수리모형실험 (Field Observations and Hydraulic Model Experiments of Tidal Currents in Chinhae Bay)

  • Tidal currents and tidal residual currents in Chinhae Bay are investigated by the field observations and hydraulic experiments during the spring tide and neap tide. The horizontal and vertical scales of the model are l/2,000 and 1/159, respectively. The hydraulic model results roughly coincide with the field data. Maximum tidal currents during the spring tide and neap tide in the central channel of Chinhae Bay are strong as about 90 and 30cm/s respectively, and strong tidal residual currents take place. Maximum tidal currents during the spring tide and neap tide in the western and northern part of the bay are weak as below 30 and 10cm/s respectively, and also tidal residual currents are weak. Tidal residual currents rotating clockwise occur in the central part of the bay. Northward tidal residual currents in the northern part of Kajo-do are predominant, whereas southward ones in the southern part of Kajo-do are remarkable. The surface currents in the bay depend strongly on the wind and river flow, and it seems to be remarkable during the neap tide.

조위차 극복형 저마루 구조물의 수리특성 (Hydrodynamic Characteristics of Tide-Adapting Low-Crested Structure)

  • A low-crested structure (LCS) is an excellent feature not only because it provides shore protection but also because it is fully submerged. However, in order to properly control waves, it is necessary to maintain a certain range of crest height and width in consideration of the wave dimensions at the installation area. According to previous studies, an LCS has some wave breaking effect when the crest width is more than a fourth of the incident wavelength and the crest depth is less than a third of the incident wave height. In other words, if the crest width of the LCS is small or the crest depth is large, it cannot control the wave. Therefore, when an LCS is installed in a large sea area with a great tidal range in consideration of the landscape, waves cannot be blocked at high tide. In this study, the hydraulic performances of a typical trapezoidal LCS with a constant crest height and a low-crested structure with an adjustable crest height, which was called a tide-adapting low-crested structure (TA-LCS) in this study, were compared and evaluated under various wave conditions through hydraulic experiments. It was found that the wave transmission coefficients of the TA-LCS at high tide were lower than the values for the typical LCS based on empirical formulas. In addition, the hydraulic performances of the TA-LCS for wave reflection control were 12.9?30.4% lower than that of the typical LCS. Therefore, the TA-LCS is expected to be highly effective in controlling the energy of incoming waves during high tide even in a macro-tidal area.

GPS 상시관측소에서의 해양조석 부하로 인한 부하성분의 결정 (Determination of Ocean Tidal Loading Components at GPS Permanent Stations)

  • 본 논문에서는 우리나라 해안에 설치된 GPS상시관측소(제주도, 호미곶, 주문진, 마라도, 팔미도, 울릉도, 영도) 데이터를 사용하여 각 관측소의 상대적 높이차를 구한 후, CLEAN 알고리즘에 의한 스펙트럼 분석을 실시함으로써 해양조석의 부하성분들 중에서 반일분조성분으로 인한 지각의 연직변동량을 추정하고, 이들을 일본과 우리나라 주변에 대하여 지역적으로 개량한 해양조석모델(NAO99jb)로부터 계산된 결과들과 비교$.$분석을 실시하고자 하였다. 그 결과, 총 4개의 반일분조($M_2, N_2, S_2, K_2$) 중 $M_2$$N_2$의 부하효과에 의한 부하성분의 진폭 및 위상 차를 결정하였으며, 관측된 부하성분의 진폭과 위상차는 모델에서 구한 부하성분의 진폭과 위상차와 거의 일치되는 양상물을 보이고 있었다. 그러나 주기의 문제로 인해 $S_2$, $K_2$ 반일분조에 대한 부하성분은 산출하지 못하였으며, 또한 일분조(Diurnal) 주기에서는 잡음의 양이 증가함으로 인하여 부하성분을 산출하지 않았다.

GPS 정밀단독측위기법을 이용한 해양조석하중 분조성분 검출 (Detection of Ocean Tide Loading Constituents Based on Precise Point Positioning by GPS)

  • 이 연구에서는 GPS(Global Positioning System) 정밀단독측위 기법을 이용하여 해양조석하 중(Ocean Tide Loading, OTL) 분조성분을 검출하고, 그 결과를 조석모델에 의한 예측값과 비교하였다. 고정밀 GPS 자료처리 프로그램인 GIPSY를 사용하여 인천, 서산, 제주 GPS 상시관측소를 대상으로 10분 단위의 수직좌표 시계열을 산출하였으며, 시계열의 조석조화분해를 통해 OTL 지각변위를 일으키는 주요 4대 분조($M_2$, $S_2$, $K_1$, $O_1$)의 진폭과 위상을 검출하였다. 조석모델의 예측값을 기준으로 GPS로 산출한 OTL 분조의 정확도를 평가한 결과 진폭은 제주관측소, 위상은 인천관측소에서 가장 높은 정확도를 나타내었다. 주요 11개 분조 중 최대비율을 차지하는 $M_2$분조의 경우 진폭성분에서 평균 23.8%의 상대오차를 보였다.

Sequential detection simulation of red-tide evolution for geostationary ocean color instrument with realistic optical characteristics

  • Geostationary Ocean Colour Imager (GOCI) is the first ocean color instrument that will be operating in a geostationary orbit from 2010. GOCI will provide the crucial information of ocean environment around the Korean peninsula in high spatial and temporal resolutions at eight visible bands. We report an on-going development of imaging and radiometric performance prediction model for GOCI with realistic data for reflectance, transmittance, absorption, wave-front error and scattering properties for its optical elements. For performance simulation, Monte Carlo based ray tracing technique was used along the optical path starting from the Sun to the final detector plane for a fixed solar zenith angle. This was then followed by simulation of red-tide evolution detection and their radiance estimation, following the in-orbit operational sequence. The simulation results proves the GOCI flight model is capable of detecting both image and radiance originated from the key ocean phenomena including red tide. The model details and computational process are discussed with implications to other earth observation instruments.

수영만의 조류, 염분 및 부유물질의 분포 (Distributions of Tidal Current, Salinity and Suspended Sediment in Suyoung Bay)

  • To investigate the flow pattern and mixing process in Suyoung Bay, field observations and data analyses of tidal current, salinity and suspended sediment (SS) were carried out. Ebb flow is stronger than flood flow, and duration of ebb tide is longer than that of flood tide. Semi-diurnal component of tidal current is predominant, and current rotating clockwise occurs in the central part of the bay. The direction of the residual currents in the central part of the bay and offshore is almost N to WNW, and the speed is 4-14cm/s. Eulerian diffusion coefficients estimated from the current data have the range of $6.2\times10^4-4.2\times10^6\;cm^2/s,$ Salinity structure in Suyoung River estuary during flood tide is of partially mixed type, but is of stratified type during ebb tide. Salinity fluctuation is large at the surface, and the fluctuation decreases with depth. SS concentration in Suyoung River estuary has a higher value during ebb tide than that during flood tide. Salinity and 55 concentrations in the estuary appeared to be very sensitive to the change of river flow.

연안해역에서 비선형 조석으로 인한 해수면 변화 (Sea Level Change due to Nonlinear Tides in Coastal Region)

  • 우리나라 연안해역에서 조사된 조위 조화상수를 수집하여 조석 분포와 비선형 조석특성의 분포를 조사하고, 국립해양조사원에서 관측한 목포항과 군산외항의 조위자료를 조화분석하여 비선형 조석의 경년변화와 비조화상수(고조위, 저조위, 조차)의 경년변화의 관련성을 검토하였다. 비선형 조석의 발생과 조석형태수가 관련성이 있음을 확인할 수 있었으며, 비선형 분조의 변화는 고조위와 저조위의 변화에 큰 영향을 주었다. 목포항에서는 해안개발로 인해서 비선형 분조의 진폭과 위상이 크게 변화하고, 이로 인해서 고조위가 상승하고, 저조위는 하강하여 조차가 증가하였다. 군산외항에서는 새만금방조제 준공이후에 비선형 조석의 영향으로 고조위는 하강하고, 저조위는 상승하여 조차가 감소하였다.

부진동에 대한 검조우물의 반응 특성 (Response of Tide-Well on Seiche)

  • 본 연구에서는 검조자료의 효율적인 이용 및 검조소의 조위기록 자료로부터 부진동 signal의 적합한 반응 여부를 알기 위해서 도수관을 가진 검조소의 반응특성을 이론적으로 검토하고, 검조우물 안과 밖에서의 현장 동시관측 자료와 시스템의 구조를 기초로 묵호항검조소의 부진동에 대한 반응 특성을 조사하였다. 정조우물 안과 밖에서의 현장 동시관측자료로 구한 묵호항 검조우물의 반응계수는 0.01이었고, 한편 이와 비교하기 위해 묵호항검조소 검조우물의 구조로부터 구한 검조우물의 반응계수는 0.016이었다. 묵호항검조소의 검조우물 반응특성 조사결과, 묵호항에서의 수십분 이상의 주시를 가진 부진동에 대해서는 진폭반응이 거의 1.0으로 볼 수 있고, 따라서 이들의 검조기록자료는 보정하지 않고 사용할 수 있는 것으로 판단된다.
