Background: Social status might be a determinant of occupational health inequalities. This study analyzed the effects of social status on both work environments and health outcomes. Methods: The study sample consisted of 27,598 wage employees aged 15 years and older from among the Korean Working Condition Survey participants in 2011. Work environments included atypical work, physical risks, ergonomic risks, work demands, work autonomy, social supports, and job rewards. Health outcomes comprised general health, health and safety at risk because of work, the World Health Organization-5 Well-being Index, work-related musculoskeletal disease, and work-related injury. Multivariable logistic-regression models were used to identify the associations between social status and work environments and health outcomes. Results: Employees in the demographically vulnerable group had lower occupational status compared with their counterparts. Low social status was largely related to adverse work environments. Especially, precarious employment and manual labor occupation were associated with both adverse work environments and poor health outcomes. Conclusion: Precarious and manual workers should take precedence in occupational health equity policies and interventions. Their cumulative vulnerability, which is connected to demographics, occupational status, adverse work environments, or poor health outcomes, can be improved through a multilevel approach such as labor market, organizations, and individual goals.

Method: Data were collected from the self-reported survey of 781 service workers in sales, food & lodging industry. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS Win 10.0. Result: The influencing factors of male workers' health status were job satisfaction, standing hour during work time, physical work environment, job demand and family support. The influencing factors of female workers' health status were job satisfaction, emotional labor, physical work environment, regular exercise, standing hour during work time, social support and age. Conclusion: Gender specific occupational Health program for service workers should be developed in consideration of these influencing factors.
Purpose: This study investigates nurses' organizational commitment, internal marketing, and occupational satisfaction depending on their age, martial status, clinical experience and income. Methods: The subjects of this study were 350 nurses from six hospitals in Jeolla-do. The t-tests were used to analyze the differences in internal marketing, occupational satisfaction, and organizational commitment depending on their age, marital status, career, and income. The relationships among internal marketing, occupational satisfaction, and organizational commitment were analyzed by the path analysis. Results: The results of this study showed that organizational commitment was correlated with age, clinical experiences, and income, but not significantly associated with martial status. Education and training policy, benefit system, and fairness of the internal marketing were influencing factors on occupational satisfaction. These factors were correlated with organizational commitment through occupational satisfaction. Conclusion: This study addressed the relationships among nurses' internal marketing, occupational satisfaction, and organizational commitment. Based on the results, it is suggested that hospital organizations introduce more diverse incentive policies to enhance nurses' occupational satisfaction and organizational commitment.
Background: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between changes in employment status and new-onset depressive symptoms through a one-year follow-up of permanent waged workers. Methods: We analyzed the open-source data from the Korea Welfare Panel Study. Using the 2017 data, we selected 2,314 permanent waged workers aged 19 to 59 years without depressive symptoms as a base group. The final analysis targeted 2,073 workers who were followed up in 2018. In 2018, there were five categories of employment status for workers who were followed up: permanent, precarious, unemployed, self-employed, and economically inactive. Multiple logistic regression was used to determine the association between employment status change and new-onset depressive symptoms. Results: Adjusted multiple logistic regression analysis showed that among male workers, workers who went from permanent status to being unemployed (odds ratio: 4.50, 95% confidence interval: 1.19 to 17.06) and from permanent status to being precarious workers (odds ratio: 3.15, 95% confidence interval: 1.30 to 7.65) had significantly high levels of new-onset depressive symptoms compared with those who retained their permanent employment status. There were no significant increases in new-onset depressive symptoms of male workers who went from permanent status to being self-employed or economically inactive. On the other hand, no significant differences were found among female workers. Conclusion: Our study suggests that the change of employment status to precarious workers or unemployment can cause new-onset depressive symptoms in male permanent waged workers.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship among concepts of the salutogenic model - sense of coherence, occupational stress, and health status in clinical nurses. Methods: Participants were recruited from a hospital in Seoul using a stratified random sampling. A total of 349 nurses participated in the study and data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. The structural equation model was used to assess the relationships among the variables. Results: The results of the study showed that occupational stress and health behavior were significant factors, directly explaining the health status of nurses. Factors explaining occupational stress were: sense of coherence, and social support. Sense of coherence showed higher effects on occupational stress than those of social support. Sense of coherence and the work conditions (work experience and shift work) of nurses had a significant and direct effect on health behavior. Sense of coherence and social support had a significant and indirect effect on health status through occupational stress and health behavior. Conclusion: Strategies to enhance sense of coherence and social support are necessary for successful health promotion programs for nurses.
This thesis examined and analyzed the occupational status of the promising occupations in the environmental industry. A study on the status of the occupations in the environmental industry is very necessary for planning policies and improving occupations in the environmental industry. Studies and discussions regarding the status of the occupations in the environmental industry, however, were extremely insufficient. A survey of the employees in the environmental industry was conducted in order to certainly comprehend the status of the occupations, educational and training programs, and occupational changes and to utilize the result of the survey as foundational data necessary for occupational studies in the environmental industry. The subject of the survey was limited to the employees who had work for one or more years in twenty promising occupations in the environmental industry. The content of the survey was occupational performance competencies, occupational careers, the degree of occupational satisfaction, vocational education and training, working conditions, occupational changes, and the security of the human resources. Dissimilarities as well as similarities among twenty promising occupations were discovered according to the analysis result of the occupations in the environmental industry. A major discovery was that there are lots of difficulties in securing environment-related human resources. Primary reasons for the difficulties were inconsistent working conditions and the shortage of the qualified human resources. To solve the difficulties in securing the human resources, the curriculum of the educational and the training institutes should be innovated and the human resources from the institutes could be applied to the workplace directly after the graduation.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to analyze the status of implementation of occupational safety and health education and evaluate the relation between the implementation of education and occupational accidents. Methods: This study used data on occupational safety and health education from the 2012 Current Status of Occupational Safety and Health survey by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency. The sample is 7,010 persons working in relation to occupational safety and health in industry. An ANOVA test is used to analyze the status of and need for education. Poisson regression is used to evaluate the relation between education and occupational accidents. Results: The rate of implementation of education is 53.3% for periodic education on workers holding office positions, 68.3% for periodic education for workers not holding office positions, 60.3% for periodic education for persons holding managerial and supervisory positions, 65.5% for education provided upon hiring, 50.5% for education provided upon changes in work activities and 37.2% for special education. In the Poisson regression, these data strongly suggest that the probability of occupational accidents occurring with education implemented is much lower than without the implementation of any kind of safety and health education. Conclusions: It is clear that implementation of education has a positive effect on reducing occupational accidents, although its application in domestic industry is insufficient. Thus, it is concluded that education on occupational safety and health should be strengthened for the prevention of occupational accidents.
