Artificial Neural Network for Stable Robotic Grasping (안정적 로봇 파지를 위한 인공신경망)

  • The optimal grasping point of the object varies depending on the shape of the object, such as the weight, the material, the grasping contact with the robot hand, and the grasping force. In order to derive the optimal grasping points for each object by a three fingered robot hand, optimal point and posture have been derived based on the geometry of the object and the hand using the artificial neural network. The optimal grasping cost function has been derived by constructing the cost function based on the probability density function of the normal distribution. Considering the characteristics of the object and the robot hand, the optimum height and width have been set to grasp the object by the robot hand. The resultant force between the contact area of the robot finger and the object has been estimated from the grasping force of the robot finger and the gravitational force of the object. In addition to these, the geometrical and gravitational center points of the object have been considered in obtaining the optimum grasping position of the robot finger and the object using the artificial neural network. To show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, the friction cone for the stable grasping operation has been modeled through the grasping experiments.

Target Image Exchange Model for Object Tracking Based on Siamese Network (샴 네트워크 기반 객체 추적을 위한 표적 이미지 교환 모델)

  • In this paper, we propose a target image exchange model to improve performance of the object tracking algorithm based on a Siamese network. The object tracking algorithm based on the Siamese network tracks the object by finding the most similar part in the search image using only the target image specified in the first frame of the sequence. Since only the object of the first frame and the search image compare similarity, if tracking fails once, errors accumulate and drift in a part other than the tracked object occurs. Therefore, by designing a CNN(Convolutional Neural Network) based model, we check whether the tracking is progressing well, and the target image exchange timing is defined by using the score output from the Siamese network-based object tracking algorithm. The proposed model is evaluated the performance using the VOT-2018 dataset, and finally achieved an accuracy of 0.611 and a robustness of 22.816.

  • In this paper, we present a motion compensated video compression method based on both block and object motions. A simplified objectoriented motion parameter is estimated from the block based motion vectors. A decision rule for the global or local MCP modes is established. Simulation results show that the proposed method has lower bit-rates than the BMA based method at the same reconstruction errors.

  • This paper implemented the real-time object tracking algorithm that extracts and tracks the moving object adaptively to input frame sequence by using non-parametric image processing method and Kalman filter-based dynamic AR(2) process method. By applying non-parametric image processing to input frames, the moving object was extracted from the background adaptively to diverse environmental conditions. And the movement of object was able to be adaptively estimated and tracked by modeling the various movement of object as dynamic AR(2) process and estimating based on the Kalman filter the parameters of AR(2) process dynamically changing along time. The experiments of the implemented object tracking system showed that the proposed method tracked the moving object as more approximately as the estimation error became about l/2.5∼1/50 of one of the traditional tracking method based on linear Kalman filter.

Implementation of Rotating Invariant Multi Object Detection System Applying MI-FL Based on SSD Algorithm (SSD 알고리즘 기반 MI-FL을 적용한 회전 불변의 다중 객체 검출 시스템 구현)

  • Recently, object detection technology based on CNN has been actively studied. Object detection technology is used as an important technology in autonomous vehicles, intelligent image analysis, and so on. In this paper, we propose a rotation change robust object detection system by applying MI-FL (Moment Invariant-Feature Layer) to SSD (Single Shot Multibox Detector) which is one of CNN-based object detectors. First, the features of the input image are extracted based on the VGG network. Then, a total of six feature layers are applied to generate bounding boxes by predicting the location and type of object. We then use the NMS algorithm to get the bounding box that is the most likely object. Once an object bounding box has been determined, the invariant moment feature of the corresponding region is extracted using MI-FL, and stored and learned in advance. In the detection process, it is possible to detect the rotated image more robust than the conventional method by using the previously stored moment invariant feature information. The performance improvement of about 4 ~ 5% was confirmed by comparing SSD with existing SSD and MI-FL.

  • Object recognition is to identify the location and class of a specific object by analyzing the given image when a specific image is input. One of the fields in which object recognition technology is actively applied in recent years is autonomous vehicles, and this paper describes the trend of image-based object recognition artificial intelligence technology in autonomous vehicles. The image-based object detection algorithm has recently been narrowed down to two methods (a single-step detection method and a two-step detection method), and we will analyze and organize them around this. The advantages and disadvantages of the two detection methods are analyzed and presented, and the YOLO/SSD algorithm belonging to the single-step detection method and the R-CNN/Faster R-CNN algorithm belonging to the two-step detection method are analyzed and described. This will allow the algorithms suitable for each object recognition application required for autonomous driving to be selectively selected and R&D.

  • Based on the principles described in Part I, we have implemented a working prototype vision system using a feature structure called an LSG (local surface group) for generating object hypotheses. In order to verify an object hypothesis, we estimate the view of the hypothesized model object and render the model object for the computed view. The object hypothesis is then verified by finding additional features in the scene that match those present in the rendered image. Experimental results on synthetic and real range images show the effectiveness of the indexing scheme.

Moving Object Tracking Using Active Contour Model (동적 윤곽 모델을 이용한 이동 물체 추적)

  • In this paper, the visual tracking system for arbitrary shaped moving object is proposed. The established tracking system can be divided into model based method that needs previous model for target object and image based method that uses image feature. In the model based method, the reliable tracking is possible, but simplification of the shape is necessary and the application is restricted to definite target mod el. On the other hand, in the image based method, the process speed can be increased, but the shape information is lost and the tracking system is sensitive to image noise. The proposed tracking system is composed of the extraction process that recognizes the existence of moving object and tracking process that extracts dynamic characteristics and shape information of the target objects. Specially, active contour model is used to effectively track the object that is undergoing shape change. In initializatio n process of the contour model, the semi-automatic operation can be avoided and the convergence speed of the contour can be increased by the proposed effective initialization method. Also, for the efficient solution of the correspondence problem in multiple objects tracking, the variation function that uses the variation of position structure in image frame and snake energy level is proposed. In order to verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed tracking system, real time tracking experiment for multiple moving objects is implemented.

JPEG-2000 Gradient-Based Coding: An Application To Object Detection

  • Image distortions, such as quantization errors, can have a severe negative impact on the performance of computer vision algorithms, and, more specifically, on object detection algorithms. State-of-the-art implementations of the JPEG-2000 image coder commonly allocate the available bits to minimize the Mean-Squared-Error (MSE) distortion between the original image and the resulting compressed image. However, considering that some state-of-the-art object detection methods use the gradient information as the main image feature, an improved object detection performance is expected for JPEG-2000 image coders that allocate the available bits to minimize the distortions on the gradient content. Accordingly, in this work, the Gradient Mean-Squared-Error (GMSE) based JPEG-2000 coder presents an improved object detection performance over the MSE based JPEG-2000 image coder when the object of interest is located at the same spatial location of the image regions with the strongest gradients and also for high bit-rates. For low bit-rates (e.g. 0.07bpp), the GMSE based JPEG-2000 image coder becomes overly selective in choosing the gradients to preserve, and, as a result, there is a greater chance of mismatch between the spatial locations of the gradients that the coder is trying to preserve and the spatial locations of the objects of interest.

Simulation of Deformable Objects using GLSL 4.3

  • In this research, we implement a deformable object simulation system using OpenGL's shader language, GLSL4.3. Deformable object simulation is implemented by using volumetric mass-spring system suitable for real-time simulation among the methods of deformable object simulation. The compute shader in GLSL 4.3 which helps to access the GPU resources, is used to parallelize the operations of existing deformable object simulation systems. The proposed system is implemented using a compute shader for parallel processing and it includes a bounding box-based collision detection solution. In general, the collision detection is one of severe computing bottlenecks in simulation of multiple deformable objects. In order to validate an efficiency of the system, we performed the experiments using the 3D volumetric objects. We compared the performance of multiple deformable object simulations between CPU and GPU to analyze the effectiveness of parallel processing using GLSL. Moreover, we measured the computation time of bounding box-based collision detection to show that collision detection can be processed in real-time. The experiments using 3D volumetric models with 10K faces showed the GPU-based parallel simulation improves performance by 98% over the CPU-based simulation, and the overall steps including collision detection and rendering could be processed in real-time frame rate of 218.11 FPS.
