  • The most important job in the container terminal area is to handle the cargo effectively in the limited time. To achieve this object, many strategies have been introduced and applied to. If we consider the automated container terminal, it is necessary that the cargo handling equipments are equipped with more intelligent control systems. From the middle of the 1990's, an automated rail-mounted gantry crane(RMGC) and rubber-tired gantry crane(RTG) have been developed and widely used to handle containers in the yards. Recently, in these cranes, the many equipments like CCD cameras and sensors are mounted to cope with the automated terminal environment. In this paper, we try to support the development of more intelligent automated cranes which make the cargo handling be performed effectively in the yards. For this plant, the modelling, tracking control, anti-sway system design, skew motion suppressing and complicated motion control and suppressing problems must be considered. Especially, in this paper, the system modelling and tracking control approach are discussed. And, we design the tracking control system incorporating an observer based on the 2DOF servo system design approach to obtain the desired state informations. In the case of observer design, a weighted $H_{\infty}$ error bound approach for a state estimator is considered. Based on an algebraic Riccati equation(inequality) approach, a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a full-order estimator which satisfies the weighted $H_{\infty}$ error bound is introduced. Where, the condition for existence of the estimator is denoted by a Linear Matrix Inequality(LMI) which gives an optimized solution and observer gain. Based on this result, we apply it to the tracking control system design for the transfer crane.

  • Among anti-seismic technologies, base isolation is a very effective means of mitigating damage to structural and nonstructural components, such as equipment. However, most seismic isolation systems are designed for mitigating only horizontal seismic responses because the realization of a vertical isolation system (VIS) is difficult. The difficulty is primarily due to conflicting isolation stiffness demands in the static and dynamic states for a VIS, which requires sufficient rigidity to support the self-weight of the isolated object in the static state, but sufficient flexibility to lengthen the isolation period and uncouple the ground motion in the dynamic state. To overcome this problem, a semi-active VIS, called the piezoelectric inertia-type vertical isolation system (PIVIS), is proposed in this study. PIVIS is composed of a piezoelectric friction damper (PFD) and a leverage mechanism with a counterweight. The counterweight provides an uplifting force in the static state and an extra inertial force in the dynamic state; therefore, the effective vertical stiffness of PIVIS is higher in the static state and lower in the dynamic state. The PFD provides a controllable friction force for PIVIS to further prevent its excessive displacement. For experimental verification, a shaking table test was conducted on a prototype PIVIS controlled by a simple controller. The experimental results well agree with the theoretical results. To further investigate the isolation performance of PIVIS, the seismic responses of PIVIS were simulated numerically by considering 14 vertical ground motions with different characteristics. The responses of PIVIS were compared with those of a traditional VIS and a passive system (PIVIS without control). The numerical results demonstrate that compared with the traditional and passive systems, PIVIS can effectively suppress isolation displacement in all kinds of earthquake with various peak ground accelerations and frequency content while maintaining its isolation efficiency. The proposed system is particularly effective for near-fault earthquakes with long-period components, for which it prevents resonant-like motion.

  • General scene change detection determines the changes of a scene by using feature comparison of two continuous images that are above the fixed threshold. But existing algerian detects scene change that was used in comparing the features of two images continuously, it usually takes a lot of time in decrypting the image data and false-detection problem occurs when there is an object motion or a change of illumination. In this paper, macroblock were used to extract the information directly from the MPEG compression area and suggests algorithm that will detect scene changes more effectively. Existing algorithm have shown numerous arithmetic problems that were improved in the proposed algorithm. The existing algorithm cannot detect the changes of a scene after analyzing the relationship of the previousand futureimages while the algorithm being proposed can detect the changes of a scene continuously and resolves the problem of false-detection. To this end, the data used in general were tested to prove that this algerian would be able to detect the scene changes faster and more correctly than the existing ones. The performance of the suggested algorithm was analyzed basedontheresultsoftheexperiment. .

  • Temporal error concealment indicates the algorithm that restores the lost video data using temporal correlation between previous frame and current frame with lost data. It can be categorized into the methods of block-based and pixel-based concealment. The proposed method in this paper is for pixel-based temporal error concealment using affine transform. It outperforms especially when the object or background in lost block has geometric transform which can be modeled using affine transform, that is, rotation, magnification, reduction, etc. Furthermore, in order to maintain good performance even though one or more motion vector represents the motion of different objects, we defines a cost function. According to cost from the cost function, the proposed method adopts affine error concealment adaptively. Simulation results show that the proposed method yields better performance up to 1.9 dB than the method embedded in reference software of H.264/AVC.

  • In this paper, the existing disparity aquisition algorithms were analyzed, on the bases of which a disparity generation technique that is superior in accuracy to the generation time was proposed. Basically it uses a pixel-by-pixel motion estimation technique. It has a merit of possibility of a high-speed operation. But the motion estimation technique has a disadvantage of lower accuracy because it depends on the similarity of the matching window regardless of the distribution characteristics of the texture in an image. Therefore, an enhanced technique to increase the accuracy of the disparity is required. This paper introduced a variable-sized window matching technique for this requirement. By the proposed technique, high accuracies could be obtained at the homogeneous regions and the object edges. A hardware to generate disparity image was designed, which was optimized to the processing speed so that a high throughput is possible. The hardware was designed by Verilog-HDL and synthesized using Hynix $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS cell library. The designed hardware was operated stably at 120MHz using Cadence NC-VerilogTM and could process 15 frames per second at this clock frequency.

  • In this study, dynamic vertical displacement of liquid in the tuned liquid column damper(TLCD) is measured by a laser Doppler vibrometer(LDV) to overcome limitations of existing sensors and to leverage noncontact sensing. Addressing advantages of noncontact measurements, operational principles of the LDV to measure velocity and displacement of a target object in motion is explained. The feasibility of application of the LDV to measurement of liquid motion in the TLCD is experimentally explored. A series of shake table tests with the TLCD are performed to determine requirements of application of the LDV. Based on the experimental results, it is proved that the LDV works under the condition of adding dye to the liquid by increasing the intensity of reflected laser and thus validity is verified by comparison with a conventional wave height meter.

  • Since the movements of a machine are driven by a certain principle, there is a fundamental principle that governs the movement of the machine, no matter how complex and diverse it may be. Autonomous movements are a way to avoid repetition, to approach more humane and more natural factors. That's all the more so when it comes to original movements, not cloning. So now, the dynamics of the machine are more multi-sensory by human participation. It is challenging the potential to be expressed and is gradually expanding its sphere of expression in the boundaries of fact and cloning. Theo Jansen's works have changed from period to period to adapt to different circumstances, indicating that his decades-long work has continued to evolve from early to present. The evolution's focus, among other things, can be seen as having the same source of circular motion and horizontal reciprocating motion, which are repeated from the principle of organic coupling between the parts that make up the object.

  • To complete an image, it is needed to go through the process to capture the actual actor's motion and compose it with virtual environment. Due to the excessive cost for production or lack of post-processing technology, however, it is mostly conducted by manual labor. The actor plays his role depending on his own imagination at the virtual chromakey studio, and at that time, he has to move considering the possible collision with or reaction to an object that does not exist. And in the process of composition applying CG, when the actor's motion does not go with the virtual environment, the original image may have to be discarded and it is necessary to remake the film. The current study suggested and realized depth-based real-time 3D virtual image composition system to reduce the ratio of remaking the film, shorten the production time, and lower the production cost. As it is possible to figure out the mutual collision or reaction by composing the virtual background, 3D model, and the actual actor in real time at the site of filming, the actor's wrong position or acting can be corrected right there instantly.

  • DVC (Distributed Video Coding) allows us to explore the video statistics at the decoder side, resulting in a less complex encoder and more complex decoder. In this approach, it is important to generate a good prediction to the current Wyner-Ziv frame, called side information, which plays a crucial role in the overall performance of a DVC system. Conventional MCFI (motion compensated frame interpolation) techniques, which explore temporal correlations between neighbor frames of the current frame, preform the block-based or object-based motion estimation, but, they do not include the basis frame for the Wyner-Ziv frame. This paper proposes an efficient way to get better side information, by finding the average frame between neighbor frames and by comparing adaptively the candidate blocks. Through computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed method can improve the performance up to 0.4dB and provide better subjective and objective visual qualities in Wyner-Ziv CODEC.

  • In the recent parking assistant systems, finding out the distance to the object behind a car is often performed by the range sensors such as ultrasonic sensors, radars. However, the installation of additional sensors on the used vehicle could be difficult and require extra cost. On the other hand, the motion stereo technique that extracts distance information using only an image sensor was also proposed. However, In the stereo rectification step, the motion stereo requires good features and exacts matching result. In this paper, we propose a fast algorithm that extracts the accurate distance information for the parallel parking situation using the consecutive images that is acquired by a rear-view camera. The proposed algorithm uses the quadrangle transform of the image, the horizontal line integral projection, and the blocking-based correlation measurement. In the experiment with the magna parallel test sequence, the result shows that the line-accurate distance measurement with the image sequence from the rear-view camera is possible.
