  • In this paper, an improved ordered block minimum mean squared error (OB-MMSE) detector for generalized spatial modulation (GSM) systems is presented. It is based on an ordered successive interference cancellation (OSIC) technique. Its bit error rate (BER) performance and computational complexity are compared with those of the corresponding original OB-MMSE detector. It is shown that the proposed OSIC-based OB-MMSE detector outperforms the OB-MMSE detector in terms of BER without noticeable complexity increase.

  • Clinical study on one case of climacteric syndrome induced hysterectomy climacteric syndrome is symptoms of physical, mental, physiological in menopausal period. Importance of treatment of climacteric symptoms was on the rise recently. I have treated one patient who has mental depression, anxiety, impatience, impotence, palpitations, facial flushing, abdominal pain in the menopausal period in Dongshin University Oriental Hospital. I took acupunture, moxibustion, cupping, and also I made herbal medicine-gamiguibitang(加味歸脾湯). As a result, I got a good effect through above methods. So I came to write this case report.

  • The olfactory bulb (OB) has an extremely higher proportion of interneurons innervating excitatory neurons than other brain regions, which is evolutionally conserved across species. Despite the abundance of OB interneurons, little is known about the diversification and physiological functions of OB interneurons compared to cortical interneurons. In this review, an overview of the general developmental process of interneurons from the angles of the spatial and temporal specifications was presented. Then, the distinct features shown exclusively in OB interneurons development and molecular machinery recently identified were discussed. Finally, we proposed an evolutionary meaning for the diversity of OB interneurons.

  • The movement of teeth during orthodontic treatment requires bone remodeling process of bone formation and bone resolution. To find out the changes occuring in the cell itself, mechanical stress was applied to the cell populations involved in the bone metabolism. Bone tissue cell populations were isolated from fetal rat calvaria and divided into OC and OB groups. Following results were obtained from measuring the changes in acid & alkaline phosphatease activity, cyclic AMP and $PGE_2$ production in time lapse after the application of mechanical stress. 1. In case of the marker enzyme of specific bone tissue cell, acid phosphatase activity was high in OC group and alkaline phosphatase activity was high in OB group. 2. After the mechanical stress was applied, acid phosphatase activity was decreased in both OC and OB groups and alkaline phosphatase activity was increase in OB group. 3. When the mechanical stress was applied for 15, 30 and 60 minutes, the production of $PGE_2$ increased in both OC and OB groups, as the time span increased. 4. When the mechanical stress was applied for 20 and 40 minutes, the production of $PGE_2$ increased in both OC and OB groups, as the time span increased.

  • Leptin is a circulating non-glycosylated protein that is mainly produced in adipocytes. Leptin acts in the brain to regulate food intake and energy expenditure. Previously we reported our success in the isolation of a partial cDNA of the long form of the leptin receptor, OB-Rb, from rat spleen, and showed that leptin might also play a role in peripheral immune organs. In the present study, for the first time, the complete coding region of OB-Rb cDNA was cloned from rat splenocytes, and its nucleotide sequence was determined. The cDNA was then further expressed in E. coli and mammalian cells, thereby confirming the functional integrity of this receptor. Prokaryotically overexpressed OB-R protein was then used as an immunizing antigen in BALE/c mice to produce leptin receptor-specific antibodies. By using them, we confirmed the cell surface expression of OB-Rb in transfected CHO cells. It is our belief that the reagents, as produced in this study, will be of great use in further studies of the biological role of rat leptin.

  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is common in obesity. However, weight reduction alone does not prevent the progression of NAFLD to end-stage disease associated with the development of cirrhosis and liver disease. In a previous experiment, 50% ethanol extract of Acanthopanax senticosus stem bark (ASSB) was found to reduce body weight and insulin resistance in high fat diet-induced hyperglycemic and hyperlipidemic ICR mice. To evaluate the anti-steatosis action of ASSB, insulin-resistant ob/ob mice with fatty livers were treated with ASSB ethanol extract for an 8 week-period. ASSB ethanol extract reversed the hepatomegaly, as evident in reduction of % liver weight/body weight ratio. ASSB ethanol extract also specifically lowered circulating glucose and lipids, and enhanced insulin action in the liver. These changes culminated in inhibition of triglyceride synthesis in non-adipose tissues including liver and skeletal muscle. Gene expression studies confirmed reductions in glucose 6-phosphatase and lipogenic enzymes in the liver. These results demonstrate that ASSB ethanol extract is an effective treatment for insulin resistance and hepatic steatosis in ob/ob mice by decreasing hepatic lipid synthesis.

  • To evaluate the effects of oriental treatment on sequela of abortion patients. From January 2005 to April 2006, 12 patients in Dong-Shin university Oriental Hospital with history of sequela of abortion were selected for this study, and their medical records were reviewed retrospectively. There were 12 sequela of abortion patients who were treated with herbal medicine(Kungkuejoheolem, Kamionkyung-tang), Jokyungjongok-tang), acupuncture, moxa. 11 patients aborted below 12weeks, and 1 patient aborted above 12weeks. Those patients complained of lower abdominal pain, arthralgia, dizziness, hand and foot coldness, and lower abdominal coldness ect. after abortion. Arthralgia was treated 68.6%, lower abdominal pain and hand and foot coldness was treated 44%, dizziness was 43.5% and so no. Patients improved about 57.72%. In this study, that oriental medical therapy is significantly effective on the treatment of sequela of abortion patients.
