  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of various herbal medicin on gut microbiota. Methods Electronic searches were performed using NDSL, OASIS, KISS, KMBASE, K-portal, Pub med, Cochrane, CNKI. Results we analyzed 25 experimental studies on the effect of herbal medicine on microbiota. Diabetes, obesity, inflammatory bowel disease have been frequently studied in micobiota-related disease. The most common experimental animal model used in the studies C57BL/7 mouse. Among the studies wherein single herbal medication were used, Gynostemma pentaphyllum was most commonly studies, and different herbal medications were used in the studies wherein complex herbal medications were studied. Next generation sequencing was performed using Illumina MiSeq system, and gut microbiota analysis was performed using QIIME and Ribosomal Database Project (RDP). In most studies, the herbal medicines exerted regulatory effects on gut microbiota and improved the symptoms of the experimental groups. Conclusions This review provides basic data on the correlation between korean medicine and gut microbiota, as well as information for the development of korean medicine.

  • Background: Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) including laser acupuncture (LA) has been widely used to treat chronic low back pain (CLBP), but there is no critically appraised evidence of the potential benefits. The purpose of this protocol for a systematic review was to enable the evaluation of the effectiveness of LLLT including LA for non-specific CLBP to identify the potential benefits. Methods: The electronic databases MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase (Ovid), the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Korean medical databases (KoreaMed, KMBASE, KISS, NDSL, KISTI, OASIS), the Chinese database (CNKI), and Japanese databases (CiNII, J-STAGE) are recommended. Results: Randomized controlled trials in LLLT including LA should be included in the searches. All data synthesis and subgroup analyses should be conducted using a Review Manager software. The Cochrane risk of bias tool can be used to evaluate methodological quality of the studies. A risk ratio or mean difference with a 95% confidence interval will show the effects of LLLT including LA. Conclusion: The primary outcome would be pain intensity and functional status/disability due to low back pain. The secondary outcome would be a global measurement of recovery or improvement, quality of life and adverse event.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and efficacy of low level laser. Methods : We searched 11 electronic databases(Pubmed, CAJ, EMBASE, Medline, Cochrane Library, KMBASE, KISS, KISTI, NDSL, RISS, Oasis) up to March 2019. We included randomized controlled trials(RCTs) using low level laser for alopecia. The methodological quality of each RCT was assessed by the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results : 8 RCT studies were eligible in our review. The meta-analysis of 2 studies showed favorable results for the use of low level laser with minoxidil 5% than minoxidil 5% and 6 studies showed favorable results for the use of low level laser than placebo light. The results of meta-analysis showed that low-level laser has an efficacy on alopecia. There were no serious side effects or adverse effects. High risk of bias were observed in all studies. Conclusion : Now limited evidence is available to support low level laser for alopecia and further well-designed RCTs should be encouraged.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this systematic review was to overview and evaluate the effectiveness of fumigation treatment for women with atrophic vaginitis. Methods: We searched articles from Pubmed, Chinese Academic Journals (CAJ) and Oasis online databases. After searching the articles, we performed quality assessment using Cochrane risk of bias (RoB) tool. Results: Among the 142 articles were searched, 5 randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) were finally selected. All of 5 studies showed that fumigation treatment has significant effect on atrophic vaginitis in terms of the effectiveness rate, but 3 studies were not statistically significant. Conclusions: Our systematic review found encouraging but limited evidence of fumigation therapy for atrophic vaginitis. We recommend clinical trials which obtain stronger evidence without the demerits of trial design.

  • Objectives : This study is aimed to analyse immunohistochemical research trend on psoriasis and consider the results in terms of Korean medicine. Methods : We analyse both immunohistochemical research papers and Korean medical papers on psoriasis, which I searched using KISS(Korean studies Information Service System) and OASIS(Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System). Results : Psoriasis is characterized by hyperporliferation of the epidermis, inflammatory cell accumulation and increased tortuosity and dilatation of dermal papillary blood vessels. Recently, angiogenesis is considered to play a major role in pathogenesis of psoriasis. Conclusion : In Korean medicine, blood-tonifying, blood-cooling and blood-activating medicinal herbs have generally been used to treat psoriasis. I consider these herbs which also treat vessel problem can have an effect on angiogenesis of psoriasis.

  • This study was performed to review clinical research studies involving acupuncture treatment for primary headache disorders to provide a basic reference for future studies. Clinical studies of primary headache disorders treated with acupuncture were retrieved from 3 Korean electronic databases (NDSL, OASIS, and RISS). The studies were classified by year of publication, type of study, type of acupuncture, outlined acupoints, methods used for filiform needles, pharmacopuncture, auricular acupuncture, and thread-embedding acupuncture. Thirty-eight trials were reviewed, of which 33 used filiform needles, 6 pharmacopuncture, 1 auricular acupuncture, and 1used thread-embedding. Most of the studies reported that acupuncture treatment was effective in treating primary headache disorders. Some studies reported statistically significant effects, but the results overall were inconsistent. Therefore, there is insufficient evidence to support the treatment of acupuncture to resolve headaches. On the basis of these results, further studies should be performed to qualitatively and quantitatively determine the efficacy of acupuncture treatment for primary headache disorders.
