구미시 하수처리 방류수가 하류 하천 영양염류에 미치는 영향: 부하량 비교 (Effects of Gumi City Sewage Treatment Effluent in the Downstream Nutrient Matter: Comparison of Daily Loading)

  • This study investigated water quality of effluents and stream from the sewage treatment plants located at Gumi Complex 4, Gumi, and Wonpyeong in Gumi. Downstream region was found to increase the concentration of nutrients for sewage treatment plant effluent. Both phosphorus and nitrogen were accounted most as soluble form. In particular, the high ratio of dissolved effluent of sewage treatment plants were investigated. In the streams, Phosphorus concentration was high during rainy season and nitrogen concentration was high in the dry season. Sewage treatment plant effluent was relatively less microbial activity and nutrient concentrations were higher in the winter. TN/TP ratio was the highest in the upstream region and the lowest in the sewage treatment plant effluent. The effect of the nutrient matter from a discharge of a sewage treatment plant on rivers varied depending on the size of the river and the treatment plant. However, the influence of the concentration was greater than that of flowrate. Sewage treatment plant effluent loads phosphorus, nitrogen accounted for 8% and 6% respectively at the point N3 of the Nakdong river.

오수처리수 관개 벼재배를 통한 농업용수 수질기준의 검토 (Review of the Agricultural Water Quality Standards through Rice Culture with Treated Sewage Irrigation)

  • Agricultural water quality standards were reviewed through rice culture using treated sewage irrigation . The seqage from school building of Konkuk University was treated by a constructed wetland system, and theeffluent of the systeml was irrigated for rice culutre after nutrient concentration adjusted by dilution. Average concentration of COD, SS, T-N and T-P in irrigated water was 22.3mg/$\ell$, 6.5mg/$\ell$, 25.8 mg/$\ell$and 2.2mg/$\ell$, respectively. Treatment include irrigation of adjusted effluent with conventional fertilization (TWCF), adjusted effluent with no fertilization (TWNF). and effluent of the wetland system as it was with no fertilization (SWNF). These treatment plots were compared with control plot irrigated by tap water with conventional fertilization (CONTROL). Other environmentals for rice culture were identical for all the plots. Among them, TWCF showed the best growth rate and the highest yield, and constituents in the harvested rice showed not much difference among them. Which implies that irrigation with relatively high nutrient concentration compared to the current water quality standards may cause no adverse effect on rice culture and could be even beneficial . Although T-N for this study was 25 times greater than the current standards, rice culture wasnot adversely affected by irrigatino water quality and even beeter results were observed than the CONTROL. It could be mistakenly that clean irrigation water produces better agricultural product, however, it is not necessarily true. Irrigation water with moderate nutrient concentration can enhance the plant growth, and better result might be expected. Therefore, peer review and modification if necessary are needed to the current agricultural water quality standards, especially for the nutrient components.

Chitosan Stimulates Calcium Uptake and Enhances the Capability of Chinese Cabbage Plant to Resist Soft Rot Disease Caused by Pectobacterium carotovorum ssp. carotovorum

  • Chinese cabbage plant was grown hydroponically for 4 weeks in order to examine the temporal relationship of calcium concentration of the nutrient solution with calcium content in the leaf tissue and susceptibility of the tissue to soft rot disease by $Pectobacterium$ $carotovorum$ ssp. $carotovorum$ (Pcc). Calcium concentration from 0.5 to 32.0 mM was maintained for 1 week using Hoagland & Arnon solution. The calcium content of the leaf was proportionally increased to the concentration of the nutrient in the solution (r = 0.912). In contrast, the severity of soft rot symptom in the young leaves was inversely related with the amount of calcium supplied to the nutrient solution (r = 0.899). Water-soluble chitosan, prepared by hollow fiber filtration (> 100 kDa) was applied into the nutrient solution from 0.0 to 5,000 ppm. The chitosan of 10 ppm was the most effective to promote calcium uptake of the leaf, showing 155% of the control. The same chitosan solution prohibited most soft rot development of the leaf by Pcc, exhibiting only 53% of the control. Among different molecular weight fractions, chitosan fraction obtained from 30-100 kDa molecular weight cut-off promoted calcium uptake the most up to 163% of the control, and reduced the development of soft rot disease recording merely 36% of the control of the leaf tissue. The results obtained in the present study suggest that large scale production of water-soluble chitosan with an optimum molecular weight and its commercial application to Chinese cabbage production will be important to improve yield and quality of the crop.

Composition of Culture Medium and Culture Conditions for In vitro Culture of Rice Panicle

  • The in vitro culture of rice panicles is a culturing technique only panicle without other organs in culture solution containing organic substance, so that would be useful to study how assimilate supply affects grain development and maturation. To find the optimum stage for in vitro culture, rice panicles grown in greenhouse were sampled periodically after anthesis and cultured in nutrient medium. The panicles older than 1 weeks after anthesis had produced normal grains. Grain-filling was apparently dependent upon sucrose concentration (8-12 %) in medium, but not affected by nitrogen concentration supplied with glutamine. As far as rice panicle was supplied with sucrose and N in nutrient medium, grains continued accumulation of dry matter and maturation regardless to light condition. Considerably, grain-filling was improved when panicles were positioned horizontally inside flask, so that each grain was partially submerged to nutrient medium.

  • A simple disposable thick-film potentiometric strip has been developed and evaluated for hydroponics application. The strip consisted of low ion-selective electrodes (ISE) fabricated by screen-printing technology. The electrochemical responses of ion sensors for nitrate, ammonium, potassium, and magnesium were measured with specially designed 16-channel low voltage signal transducers. The analytical characteristics of the sensors were comparable with those of conventional ISE sensors. The thick-film sensors exhibit linear relationships over five concentration decades. The concentration of N $O_3$ - ion in standard solution can be determined by direct potentiometric measurements without any conditioning before measurements. However, measurement of $K^{+}$, N $H_4$$^{+}$, and $Mg^{2+}$ ionic concentrations in nutrient solutions seems not feasible.

생물학적 고도처리공법에 적용된 두 형태의 장방형 이차침전지 성능 파악 (Evaluating Two Types of Rectangular Secondary Clarifier Performance at Biological Nutrient Removal Facilities)

  • There are two types of rectangular secondary clarifier at biological nutrient removal (BNR) facility to settle MLSS; conventional activated sludge secondary clarifier and Gould Type I clarifier. In this study, the performances of two types at respective biological nutrient removal facility are compared using weekly operational data. Surface Overflow Rate (SOR), Surface Loading Rate (SLR), Sludge Volume Index (SVI), secondary effluent SS concentration are studied. It has found that Gould Type I has 3.5 times less average secondary effluent SS concentration that is 2.4 mg/L than that of conventional activated sludge secondary clarifier. Both SOR and SLR have shown little effect on secondary effluent SS concentrations at Gould Type I clarifier in contrary that SOR affects the secondary effluent SS concentrations at conventional activated sludge rectangular secondary clarifier. From this study, it is recommended that Gould Type I must be considered for secondary clarifier when BNR plant is designed.

미나리 (Oenanthe javanica(Blume) DC)를 이용한 수질정화에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Water Purification Using Water Parsley)

  • The results of the water purification studies using water parsley (Oenanthe javanica) were obtained as follows. The removal rate of nutrient salts increased with longer plant growth periods. The results of this study use the assumption, log(T+1) = $K(C_0-C)^A$, based on Prakish's Theory. The initial concentration was calculated from experimental data. A and K are closely related to the initial concentration. It is possible to model the concentration of residual salts, as time goes by, if concentration is constant. It was observed that water parsley neutralizes acid and alkali substances promptly. The maximum suitable neutralization period is 48 hours. But water parsley withered up in strong acid and alkali solutions within a week. The removal efficiency of Cd progresses in 2 steps, which are unrelated to the initial concentration of Cd. The first part of the curve shows the concentration rapid rate of Cd removal, followed by a levelling off. The removal rate of $NO_x-N$ in the sample water tank containing 0.5 ppm Cd was between 50~80% but the removal rate was less than 20% for the higher concentration. On the other hand, increased amounts of $PO_4-P$ in the sample water tank from the third day on suspected that $PO_4-P$ was desorbed from the water parsley. The accumulation efficiency of Cd in plant was increased in proportion to the initial concentration of Cd. The accumulation phenomenon was observed in the tanks more than 50~100 times.

  • CREAMS-PADDY model for simulating daily water and nutrient balance at irrigated paddies was developed, applied to, and validated with field data. The model simulates daily flooding depth and total nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations from meterorological, irrigation, and farming data. Simulated results from the model were in good agreement with field data. Among different scenarios to reduce nutrient losses from paddies, the water management was found to be very effective, and recommended for field applications.

Test Strip과 Chlorophyll Meter를 이용한 오이의 신속한 영양진단 (Rapid Nutrient Diagnosis of Cucumber by Test Strip and Chlorophyll Meter)

  • 본 연구는 지금까지 제시된 여러 가지 간이 영양 진단 방법들 중 test strip과 chlorophyll meter를 이용하여 오이의 영양상태를 신속하게 파악하기 위한 방안을 모색하고자 시행하였다. 본 실험에서는 양액에 공급하는 N, P, K 수준을 달리하여 오이를 재배하면서 생육시기별로 specific color difference sensor value (SCDSV), 엽병의 즙액 내 $NO_3$, $PO_4$, K의 함량을 측정하였다. 실험 결과 양액 중 N, P, K의 농도변화에 따른 엽병 중 $NO_3$, $PO_4$, K 함량 변화가 엽 내 total-N, P, K 함량의 변화보다 더 민감하였다. Test strip을 이용하여 구한 오이 엽병 즙액 내 $NO_3$, $PO_4$, K 함량은 엽 내 total-N, P, K의 농도와 고도의 일차상관관계를 나타내었다. 따라서 지금까지 여러 연구를 통해 확립된 오이의 엽 내 total-N, P, K의 적정함량을 회귀식에 대입하여 즙액 $NO_3$, $PO_4$, K의 적정함량을 계산하였다. 오이 즙액의 적정 $NO_3$, $PO_4$, K 범위는 각각 5.4-9.1, 0.2-0.5, $3.1-4.8g\;L^{-1}$였다. Chlorophyll meter를 이용하여 측정한 SCDSV는 엽 내 total-N와 높은 상관관계를 나타내었으며 기존에 연구된 오이의 엽 내 total-N 함량을 회귀식에 대입하여 계산한 결과 적정 SCDSV는 39.5-49.0이었다. 본 연구 결과 test strip과 chlorophyll meter는 오이의 신속한 영양 진단에 이용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

NFT 수경재배시스템에서 주/야 양액농도변환이 토마토의 생육 및 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Diurnal Alternation of Nutrient Solution Salinity on Growth and Fruit Quality of Tomatoes Hydroponically Grown in NFT System)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of diurnal alternation of nutrient solution salinity on growth and fruit quality of tomatoes (Lycoperisicon esculentum cv. 'House momotaro') hydroponically grown in root intercept bag-NFT (RIB-NFT) system. Plant height was the lowest in the high concentration during daytime (6/1 $dS\;m^{-1}$, day/night). Yield was very high in the concentration of 1/1 $dS\;m^{-1}$, it decreased with increasing the concentration of nutrient Yield was higher at low concentration (4/1 $dS\;m^{-1}$) at nighttime compared to the same concentration (4/4 $dS m^{-1}$) at daytime and nighttime, and the reverse (1/4 $dS\;m^{-1}$) was similar to the control (perlite culture). Yield was greatly reduced by higher concentration at daytime than nighttime, and the decrease was alleviated by lower concentration at nighttime. With increasing the concentration of nutrient solution during daytime, sugar content of tomato fruit was increased, but yield was decreased. In the other experiment, tomato plants were hydropoically cultured in NFT system diurnally alternated between Aichi's solution and $Ca(NO_3)_2$ solution. $Ca(NO_3)_2$ solution was supplied for 4 hours from 10:00 to 14:00 at daytime and from 22:00 to 2:00 at nighttime, respectively, and Aichi's solution was supplied for the time except the 4 hours. Ca content of leaves and sugar content of fruit were increased by supplying $Ca(NO_3)_2$ solution at daytime compared to nighttime, but plant growth was greatly suppressed by supplying $Ca(NO_3)_2$ solution with the concentration of 4 $dS\;m^{-1}(4/4^{Ca}\;dS\;m^{-1})$ at nighttime.
