This meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the effects of the supportive nursing intervention and analyze its components in 14 studies carried out from Jan. 1980 to Jun. 1997. The supportive nursing intervention studies divided into three types according to the components of conceptual definitons.; (1)supportive nursing behavior, (2)social support, and (3)combination of social support and supportive nursing behavior. The various terms referred to the supportive nursing intervention didn't have the clear differentiating conceptual and operational definitions and the logical relationship among them. The effects of supportive nursing intervention were measured by the 23 dependent variables using self-report and the 5 dependent variables using physiological indices. The dependent variables were measured more than two were role behavior compliance, anxiety, depression, health belief, knowledge about the disease, helplessness and stressful behavior response. The average effects of the supportive nursing intervention ranged from 0.218 to 2.745 for the d index. The three variables of them, which were anxiety, depression and stressful behavior response, were homogeneous statistically by homogeniety test. Results of the meta-analysis indicated that the supportive nursing intervention had moderate to large effects on anxiety(d=0.41), depression (d=0.66) and stressful behavior response (d=0.86).

Junior College of Nursing(p<.000). 3. Purpose: This study aimed to understand a change in the awareness of nursing college students on the unification of the Korean peninsula and health care systems after providing unification and nursing education. Methods: After taking all sessions of the classes, seven participations responded in a semi-conducted focus group interview. The data were analyzed by qualitative content analysis. Results: Three themes and eight categories were deduced. Curiosity and expansion on an unfamiliar subject, and expansion of personal experience related to North Korea/Koreans were identified in the theme of challenges to the 'unification and nursing' subject. Confusion due to inconsistency with existing information, the realization of undiscerning attitude/judgement toward North Korea, and empathy and changing views of North Koreans were identified in the theme of expansion of the awareness for North Korea/Koreans. The beginning of a specific concern, the repetition of history, and North Korea still far away were identified in the theme of divided views of the imperativeness of unification. Conclusion: Through the findings of this study, we could examine how students in this study had deepen their understandings in terms of North Koreans beyond their personal experiences by taking the course of 『unification and nursing』.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the types and characteristics of male college nursing students' adaptation to their academic department. Methods: Q methodology was applied to determine the subjectivity of the male nursing students' adaptation to their academic department. Fifty male nursing students were asked to select and answer questions among a set of 36 Q-statements using a 9-point scale. The collected data were analyzed using the PC QUANL program. Results: Three types of male students' adaptation to the department of nursing were identified. Type I was termed 'resilience-acceptance', Type II, 'inner-conflict', and Type III, 'goal-oriented'. Purpose: This study was done to investigate nursing students' knowledge on children's pain. Methods: The subjects were 389 nursing students in a university and a college. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 14.0 program. Results: Nursing students' knowledge on children's pain were generally low. Knowledge on analgesics was ranked the lowest. The levels of knowledge on children's pain of the students were different by gender, grade, academic achievement, the learning experience on pain, and the experience with chronic pain. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the clinical practice experiences of nursing students who completed the courses of nursing curricula in college. Method: The data was collected using a questionnaire with 191 task elements in 8 nursing standards specified by the Korean Nurses Association(2003), from December 2004 to January 2005. Three hundred thirty-three nursing students from five three-year and five four-year colleges of nursing were selected for respondents. Result: The nursing activities which over 70% of the students had performance experiences with were 23 items(12.04%) practiced frequently in clinical settings, simple, low in malpractice risk and noninvasive in characteristic. In addition, the nursing activities which under 30% of students had performance experiences with were 87 items(45.55%). The nursing activities which over 70% of students had only observation experiences with were 20 items(10.47%). Also, the nursing activities that over 30% of students didn't have any experiences with were 19 items(9.95%) not frequently seen in the clinical setting. Conclusion: It is concluded that the students are not fully qualified as the new nurses of the future. Therefore, every effort to develop a more effective clinical nursing education in school, clinical settings and in students themselves is needed.
