  • In this paper, we researched a parametric study in flow control system using louver with numerical method. Generally, for the large fans with constant rotational speed, the louver can be used to control the flow rate. The opening and closing of louver can make a some change of flow properties generated by a large fan. To develope the relation between the opening angle of louver and flow rate(or pressure difference), we simulated the flow past the modelled louver installed in a virtual wind tunnel. For the various angles, the mean flow properties are investigated and parameterized with a given boundary condition. The research result can be used directly to design the flow control system of large constant-speed fans, which are often applied to petrolic refinery system.

  • A numerical parametric study is conducted to simulate shock-induced combustion with a variation in freestream conditions. A steady combustion front is established if the freestream Mach number is above the Chapman-Jouguet speed of the mixture. On the other, an unsteady reaction front is established if the the freestream Mach number is below or at the Chapman-Jouguet speed of the mixture. The three cases have been simulated for Machs 4.18, 5.11, and 6.46 with a projectile diameter of 15 mm. Machs 4.18 and 5.11 shows an unsteady reaction front, whereas Mach 6.46 represents a steady reaction front. Thus Chapman-Jouguet speed is one of deciding factor for the instabilities to trigger.

  • To study the dynamic response of a rigid block standing unrestrained on a rigid foundation which shakes horizontally, four modes of motion can be identified, i.e., rest, slide, rock, and slide and rock. The occurrence of each of these four modes and the transition between any two modes depend on the parametric values specified, the initial conditions, and the magnitude of ground acceleration. In this paper, a general two-dimensional theory is presented for dealing with the various modes of a free-standing rigid block, considering in particular the impact occurring during the rocking motion. Through selection of proper values for the system parameters, the occurrence of each of the four modes and the transition between different modes are demonstrated in the numerical examples.

  • Piles installed in row(s) are used as an effective technique to improve the stability of soil slopes. The analysis of pile-stabilized slopes require a reliable prediction of lateral resistance offered by the piles. In this work, an analytical solution is developed to estimate the lateral resistance offered by the stabilizing piles in sand and c - 𝜙 soil slopes considering soil arching phenomenon. The soil arching in both horizontal direction (between the neighboring piles) and vertical direction (in the active wedge in front of the pile row) are studied and their effects are incorporated in the proposed model. The shape of soil arch is assumed to be circular and principal stress trajectories are defined separately for both modes of arching. Experimental and numerical studies found in literature were used to validate the proposed method. A detailed parametric analysis was performed to study the influence of pile diameter, center-to-center spacing, slope angle and angle of internal friction on the lateral pile resistance.

  • As a trapezoidal corrugated steel plate has the sufficient stiffness out of plane direction without shear stiffener or thick plate, a use in the web of bridge structure is on the increase. However, there are no domestic design guides for shear buckling strength of corrugated plates. Therefore, foreign design specifications are analyzed about application methods and a numerical parametric study is used to get the relationship of the shear strength and geometric boundary conditions for corrugated plates. Elastic buckling finite element analysis is executed through eigenvalue analysis using the eight nodes five freedoms thin shell element. Parameters such as the width and height of panel and the thickness and height of web, are determined considering the factors to influence on the buckling of corrugated plate. Accuracy of shear buckling analysis is evaluated with theory of foreign buckling equations.

  • Edge detection considers the important technical details of digital image processing. Many edge detection operators already perform edge detection in digital color imaging. In this study, the edge of many real color images that represent the type of digital image was detected using a new operator in the least square approximation method, which is a type of numerical method. The Linear Fitting algorithm is computationally more expensive compared to the Canny, LoG, Sobel, Prewitt, HIS, Fuzzy, Parametric, Synthetic and Vector methods, and Robert' operators. The results showed that the new method can detect an edge in a digital color image with high efficiency compared to standard methods used for edge detection. In addition, the suggested operator is very useful for detecting the edge in a digital color image.

  • Accurate prediction of supersonic transition is required for the heat transfer estimation over supersonic double compression ramp flows. Correlation-based transition models were assessed for a supersonic double ramp problem. Numerical results were compared with experimental data from RWTH Aachen University. A parametric study on the nose bluntness was performed using a selected transition model. As the nose bluntness increases, the boundary layer thickness is increased and the triple point of shock interactions moves downstream. The peak magnitude of the heat transfer is consequently decreased with the nose bluntness.

  • In this study, a new model to predict the effective elastic constants of composites with spherical fillers is proposed. The original Eshelby model is extended to a finite filler volume fraction without using Mori-Tanaka's mean field approach. When single filler is embedded in the matrix, the effective elastic constants of the composite are computed. The composite is in turn considered as a new matrix, where new single filler is again embedded in the matrix. The predicted results by the present model with a series of embedding procedures are compared with those by Mori-Tanaka, self-consistent, and generalized self-consistent models. It is revealed through parametric studies such as stiffness ratio of the filler to the matrix and filler volume fraction that the present model gives more accurate predictions than Mori-Tanaka model without using the complicated numerical scheme used in self-consistent and generalized self-consistent models.

  • A parametric study on anti-vortex holes for turbine blade cooling was investigated numerically. Three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and shear stress transport turbulence model were used for analysis of anti-vortex film cooling. Validation of numerical results was carried out comparing with experimental data. The cooling performance of anti-vortex holes was assessed by two geometric variables, the ratio of diameters of holes and the lateral distances between the primary hole and anti-vortex hole at blowing ratios of 0.5 and 1.0. The results showed that the spatially-averaged film-cooling effectiveness increases as the ratio of the diameters increases and the distance between the primary hole and anti-vortex hole decreases.

  • A laminated evaporator performance simulation software has been developed and the performance characteristics have been examined with variation of important design parameters, number of plate ( $P_{N}$), plate inner height ( $P_{h}$), Plate thickness ( $p_{t}$) and plate wetted Perimeter ( $P_{wl}$ ). To confirm the program, performance experiment was carried out for two different evaporators. The simulation results matched with experiments within $\pm$10%. Through the parametric studies, $P_{N}$ was shown to be most influential. The $P_{N}$, $P_{h}$ and $P_{wl}$ had a maximum cooling capacity point in the calculation range. In case of $P_{t}$, the smaller was the better.ter.etter.ter.
