  • Intercarrier interference (ICI) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, which causes substantial performance degradation in time-varying fading channels, is analyzed. An equivalent spreading code formulation is derived based on the analogy of OFDM and code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. Techniques as linear multiuser detection in CDMA systems are applied to suppress the ICI in OFDM systems. The performance of linear detection, measured using multiuser efficiency and asymptotic multiuser efficiency, is analyzed given the assumption of perfect channel state information (CSI), which serves as an upper bound for the performance of practical systems. For systems without CSI, time domain and frequency domain channel estimation based linear detectors are proposed. The performance gains and robustness of a linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) filter over a traditional filter (TF) and matched filter (MF) in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime are demonstrated with numerical simulation results.

  • This paper includes the analysis and formulation of a new model for studying scattering from wire meshes that is more efficient and simpler to apply than the previous methods. In the new method, the conjugate gradient method is employed to improve each previous iterative and the fast Fourier transform (FFT) technique is utilized. A numerical computation of mesh scattering algorithm has been carried out in the Spectral Domain. A study on the electromagnetic properties such as reflection coefficients, induced currents and aperture fields has been presented and compared with data calculated by other methods to support the validity of the algorithm.

  • In this Paper, we propose a time-domain magnetic field integral equation (TD-MFIE) formulation for analyzing the transient electromagnetic response from three-dimensional (3-D) dielectric bodies. The solution method in this paper is based on the Galerkin's method that involves separate spatial and temporal testing procedures. Triangular patch basis functions are used for spatial expansion and testing functions for arbitrarily shaped 3-D dielectric structures. The time-domain unknown coefficients of the equivalent electric and magnetic currents are approximated tv a set of orthonormal basis function that is derived from the Laguerre polynomials. These basis functions are also used for the temporal testing. Numerical results computed by the proposed method are presented and compared.

  • This paper presents a new approach for determining an accurate incentive levels of Direct Load Control (DLC) program using sequential Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) techniques. The economic analysis of DLC resources needs to identify the hourly-by-hourly expected energy-not-served resulting from the random outage characteristics of generators as well as to reflect the availability and duration of DLC resources, which results the computational explosion. Therefore, the conventional methods are based on the scenario approaches to reduce the computation time as well as to avoid the complexity of economic studies. In this paper, we have developed a new technique based on the sequential MCS to evaluate the required expected load control amount in each hour and to decide the incentive level satisfying the economic constraints. In addition, the mathematical formulation for DLC programs' economic evaluations are developed. To show the efficiency and effectiveness of the suggested method, the numerical studies have been performed for the modified IEEE reliability test system.

  • Two iterative solvers are applied to solve the modified mild slope equation. The elliptic formulation of the governing equation is selected for numerical treatment because it is partly suited for complex wave fields, like those encountered inside harbors. The requirement that the computational model should be capable of dealing with a large problem domain is addressed by implementing and testing two iterative solvers, which are based on the Stabilized Bi-Conjugate Gradient Method (BiCGSTAB) and Generalized Conjugate Gradient Method (GCGM). The characteristics of the solvers are compared, using the results for Berkhoff's shoal test, used widely as a benchmark in coastal modeling. It is shown that the GCGM algorithm has a better convergence rate than BiCGSTAB, and preconditioning of these algorithms gives more than half a reduction of computational cost.

  • In this paper, we evaluate a performance on a transmission power control algorithm in a SIR-based wireless networks. We consider the existing iterative power control algorithms into a unified dynamic state system formulation in both continuous-time and discrete-time system. Numerical experiments are performed under the disturbance of sinusoidal. These results indicate that the proposed power control scheme has a performance improvement with a better disturbance elimination in wireless mobile systems.

  • In quantized control systems, the control values can take only given discrete (e.g. integer) values. In case of dealing with the control problem on the discrete-time, final-stage fixed, quantized control systems with multidimensional performance functions, the first thing, new definition on noninferior solutions in these systems is necessary because of their discreteness in state variables, and the efficient search for those solutions at final-stage is unavoidable for seeking their discrete-time optimal controls to these systems. In this paper, to the quantized control problem given by the formulation of Halkin-typed linear control systems with two performance functions, a new definition on noninferior solutions of this system control problem and a heuristic effective search on these noninferior solutions are stated. By use of these concepts, two definitions on noninferior solutions and the algorithm consisted of 8 steps and attained by geometric approaches are given. And a numerical example using the present algorithm is shown.

  • A counter balance valve is used as one part of hydraulic motor brake system. The function of this valve is to protect over-run or free falling of inertia load. But occasionally the brake system with counter balance valve makes some undesirable problems such as pressure surges or vibrations. In this study, for the purpose of easy estimation about dynamic characteristics of hydraulic system including counter balance valve, precise formulation describing fluid dynamics and valve dynamics under various boundary conditions were made. Dynamic characteristics were analysed by numerical integration using Runge-Kutta method, because the equations in this circuit with counter balance valve contain various nonlinear terms. Propriety of this analysis method is verified by experiment. For the purpose of obtaining fundamental data for preventing instability, this study experimented the effects of the spool taper, spring constant, cylindrical choke. And we developed double acting brake system integrated counter balance valve.

  • Optimized high-order compact(OHOC) schemes were proposed, which have high spatial order of truncation and resolution to simulate the aeroacoustic problems due to unsteady compressible flows. Generally, numerical schemes are categorized explicit or implicit by time-marching method. In this research, OHOC differences which were developed with explicit time-marching method is used to have implicit formulation and the implicit OHOC differences result in block hepta-diagonal matrix. This paper presents the comparisons between the explicit and implicit OHOC schemes with a second order accuracy of time in the 1-d linear wave convection problem, and between the explicit OHOC scheme of 4th-order accuracy in time and the implicit OHOC scheme of 1st-order accuracy in tine for the 1-d nonlinear wave convection problem. With these comparisons, the characteristics of implicit OHOC scheme are shown in the point of CFL number.

  • An implicit viscous turbulent flow solver is developed for two-dimensional geon unstructured triangular meshes. The flux terms are discretized based on a cell-centered formulation with the Roe's flux-difference splitting. The solution is advanced in time us backward-Euler time-stepping scheme. At each time step, the linear system of equation approximately solved wi th the Gauss-Seidel relaxation scheme. The effect of turbulence is with a standard k-ε two-equation model which is solved separately from the mean flow equation the same backward-Euler time integration scheme. The triangular meshes are generated advancing-front/layer technique. Validations are made for flows over the NACA 0012 airfoil. Douglas 3-element airfoil. Good agreements are obtained between the numerical result experiment.
