  • According to the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency's (KOSHA) report on industrial accident statistics over the past four years, the number of casualties at construction sites from 2017 to June 2020 was about 93,158 and the number of deaths was about 1,977, showing a high trend of safety accidents among the eight major occupational groups, with the construction industry ranking third in total and the death rate being the highest in total. Among them, the number of deaths caused by falls in the entire occupational category is about 1,267, the highest rate of deaths due to contact is about 522, which is a frequent safety accident among the top three accident types. This paper aims to help reduce the overall proportion of construction safety accidents by developing smart safety sensing devices using ultrasonic sensors to prevent two types of safety accidents, which have the highest rate of occurrence among various types of safety accidents occurring at construction sites.

  • The system for counting the number of people has traditionally been implemented in various ways. Existing systems include infrared sensors, lasers, cameras, etc. In the case of such an existing system, there are restrictions on space such as ceilings and sides of walls. In this paper, we propose a method of detecting the footsteps of pedestrians using a piezoelectric mat containing a number of piezoelectric sensors and counting the number of pedestrians passing simultaneously by using the data collected from the piezoelectric mat. When pedestrians pass over piezoelectric mats, the collected sensor data was aggregated using SPI communication and transmitted to PC server using TCP/IP communication. Performance analysis shows that approximately 600 step data can be recognized with 99% accuracy. This is to overcome the shortcomings of other counting systems.

  • For the land-cover classification we have usually used imagery of the optical sensors only. But currently a number of the satellite with various sensors are operating and the availability of using the data acquired from them are increasing. SAR sensors, in particular, can produce additional informations on the land-cover which has not been available from optical sensors. On this study, I have applied the SAR Image to the SPOT XS image in the classification procedures, and analysed the classified results. In this procedure I have extracted texture informations from SAR intensity images, then applied both intensity and texture informations. From the accuracy analysis, overall accuracy are increased slightly when the SAR texture was applied. In case of the Built-up class the results showed higher accuracy than those of when only the SPOT XS image was used. From this result I can show that overall accuracy was increased slightly but the spatial distribution of classes was visibly improved.

  • The multicarrier direct sequence code-division (MC-DS/CDMA) is a well-known multiple access and data transmission scheme that is applicable for various mobile and wireless communications. Particularly for modern, smart vehicles equipped with multiple sensors, MC-DS/CDMA is one of the possible means for giving the sensors to get connected one another for sending and receiving messages and control information. For intra-vehicalur communicaiton and networking applications, we have proposed a novel MC-DS/CDMA multiple access and data transmission scheme incorporating a new idea of inserting sub-symbol based cyclic prefixes for compromising inter-symbol interference. In the performance investigation of our MC-DS/CDMA, we have looked into system performances related to bandwidth utiltzation, coding gain, and multiple number of sensors. Since the channel delay is comparatively shorter inside of vehicle than any other general mobile channels, the proposed scheme can be a successful candidate for networking wireless sensors simultaneously operting in an intelligent vehicle.

  • Multi LiDAR sensors are being mounted on autonomous vehicles, and a system to multi LiDAR sensors data is required. When sensors data is transmitted or processed to the main processor, a huge amount of data causes a load on the transport network or data processing. In order to minimize the number of load overhead into LiDAR sensor processors, only semantic data is transmitted through data comparison between frames in LiDAR data. When data from 4 LiDAR sensors are processed in a static environment without moving objects and a dynamic environment in which a person moves within sensor's field of view, in a static experiment environment, the transmitted data reduced by 89.5% from 232,104 to 26,110 bytes. In dynamic environment, it was possible to reduce the transmitted data by 88.1% to 29,179 bytes.

  • In order to create a virtual reality space in the metaverse, accurate tracking sensors and implementation are required. Most government agencies and corporations performs tracking to use their own tracking sensors and a base stations, such as VIVE. The VIVE method may have tracking problems due to spatial constraints and obstacles or nearby structures, and it is also that the number of people that can be accommodated within the space is also limited. In this paper, we designed and implemented metaverse using an IR sensor tracking system to freely track the spatial virtual reality metaverse, and we experimented contents in metaverse by placing IR sensors additionally on the floor and ceiling if needed in order to flexibly configure the metaverse space. As a result of the experiment, the tracking stability of the IR-tracking system was approximately 12% higher than the VIVE method. Additionally, adding more tracking sensors on the floor increases tracking stability and allows for a stable representation of virtual space.

  • Diverse sensors are equipped on P-3C Maritime Patrol Aircraft for RoKN to detect and monitor tactical targets. Tactical targets are maintained/shared by tactical computer stations which consist of a clustering network in the aircraft and displayed in various ways on TSDs(Tactical Situation Displays) for mission operators to perform their specified missions. Korea peninsula is widely covered with the sea areas and neighboured with several countries; which makes huge number of ships and aircraft deployment around the place. Due to an increase in number of sensors and enhancement of their sensitivities; we were aware of the necessity of TSD improvements to provide huge number of tactical targets and to display them efficiently. In this paper, we propose a solution for the improvements by using previous backup data and re-usage of the data, then we verify the proposal through implementation and evaluation results.

  • Pressure coefficient in rotating discharge hole was measured to gain insight into the influence of rotation to the discharge characteristics of rotating discharge hole. Pressure measurements were done by the telemetry system that had been developed by the authors. The telemetry system measures static pressure using piezoresistive pressure sensors. Pressure coefficients in rotating discharge hole were measured in longitudinal direction and circumferential direction with various rotating speed and 3 pressure ratios. From the results, the pressure coefficient, and therefore the discharge coefficient, is known to decrease with the increase of Ro number owing to the increase of flow approaching angle to the discharge hole inlet. However, there exists critical Ro number where the decrease rate of discharge coefficient with the increase of Ro number changes abruptly; flow separation occurs from the discharge hole exit at this critical Ro number. Critical Ro number increases with the increase of length-to-diameter ratio, but the increase is small where the length-to-diameter ratio is higher than 3. The decrease rate of discharge coefficient with the increase of Ro number depends on the pressure recovery at the discharge hole, and the rate is different from each length-to-diameter ratio; it has tendency that the short discharge hole shows higher decrease rate of discharge coefficient.

  • Military surveillance systems with electro-optical sensors can be used to track a number of targets efficiently and reliably. In MTT (Multi-Target Tracking), joint events in which different tracks share the same measurements may occur. Measurement-to-track assignment are computationally challenging because of the number of operations increases exponentially with number of tracks and number of measurements. IHPDA (Integrated Highest Probability Data Association) based on a 2D-Assignment technique can find an optimal solution for measurement to track one-to-one assignments for complex environments. In this paper, LM-IHPDA (Linear Multi-Target IHPDA) which does not need to form all feasible joint events of association and thus the computational load is linear in the number of tracks and the number of measurements. Simulation studies illustrate the effectiveness of this approach in an infrared image environment.

  • An important inverse problem in the field of acoustics is that of reconstructing the strengths of a number of sources given a model of transmission paths from the sources to a number of sensors at which measurements are made. In dealing with this kind of the acoustical inverse problem, strengths of the discretised source distribution can be simply deduced from the measured pressure field data and the inversion of corresponding matrix of frequency response functions. However, deducing :he solution of such problems is not straightforward due to the practical difficulty caused by their inherent ill-conditioned behaviour. Therefore, in order to overcome this difficulty associated with the ill-conditioning, the problem is replaced by a nearby well-conditioned problem whose solution approximates the required solution. In this paper a microphone array are identified for which the inverse problem is optimally conditioned, which can be robust to contaminating errors. This involves sampling both source and field in a manner which results in the discrete pressures and source strengths constituting a discrete Fourier transform pair.
