A multi-point touch input sensor having different sizes or different capacitance touch points connected by only one pair of signal transmission lines was fabricated using a polyimide film coated with a thin copper plate. The capacitance increases with the decrease in the number of sheets of fabric spacers placed between the two sheets of the polyimide film. Therefore, the touch input sensor could be manufactured without fabric spacers, which was possible by the action of the polyimide film as a dielectric material in the capacitor. On the multi-point touch sensor, higher capacitance was obtained when pressing wider-area touch points with 10mm to 25mm diameter on average. However, the capacitance of a system comprising two sheets of touch sensors was considerably low, causing a serious overlap of the capacitance values according to the data collected from the reliability test. Although the capacitance values could be increased by stacking several sheets of touch sensors, the overlap of data was still observed. After reducing the size of all touch points to 10mm and stacking up to eight sheets of sensors, reliable and consistent capacitance data was obtained. Five different capacitance signals could be induced in the sensors by pushing touch points simultaneously.
With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, many companies are developing Smart Ships to enable autonomous navigation, unmanned operation, and cost-effective shipping. In order to facilitate the operation of these Smart Ships, significant emphasis is being placed on improving external communication capabilities and developing autonomous navigation systems. Moreover, unmanned ship operation necessitates replacing of all visually observed conditions with sensors, leading to an inevitable increase in the number of sensors and actuators compared to traditional methods. However, in South Korea, the communication network for sensors and actuators primarily relies on the conventional 1:1 hardwired wiring, with the use of higher-level communication networks when necessary. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce the AS-Interface protocol, which is used for monitoring and controlling sensors and actuators, with the expectation that it will greatly contribute to the development of future Smart Ships by reducing production time, costs, and maintenance duration.
Ultrasonic sensors are becoming indispensable components in every sector of automation equipments due to many advantages. But the main purposes of the noncontact sensing device are rather narrowly confined within object detection and distance measurement. To widen the realm of the applications to object recognition, ultrasonic sensors need to improve the recognition resolution to a certain amount. To resolve the problem of spatial resolution restriction, an increased number of the sensors in the forms of a linear array or 2-dimensional array of the sensor has been used. Also better resolution has been obtained by shifting the array in several steps using mechanical actuators. For an object recognition using ultrasonic sensors, measurements of distance, shift, oblique angle in certain ranges should be obtained. But a little attention has been paid to the measurement of angles. In this paper we propose a practical method for an object angular value detection in addition to distance measurement in ultrasonic sensor array system with little additional hardware burden. Using the established measurement look-up table for the variations of distance, shift, angle and transmitter voltages for each sensor characteristics, a set of different return echo signals for adjacent receivers are processed to provide enhanced angular value reading for an object.
IoT (Internet of Things) is a collective term referring to application services that provide information through sensors/devices connected to the internet. The real world application of IoT is expanding fast along with growing number of sensors/devices. However, since IoT application relies on vertical combination of sensors/devices networks, information sharing within IoT services remains unresolved challenge. Consequently, IoT sensors/devices demand high construction and maintenance costs, rendering the creation of new IoT services potentially expensive. One solution is to launch an IoT open market for information sharing similar to that of App Store for smart-phones. Doing so will efficiently allow novel IoT services to emerge across various industries, because developers can purchase licenses to access IoT resources directly via an open market. Sharing IoT resource information through an open market will create an echo-system conducive for easy utilization of resources and communication between IoT service providers, resource owners, and developers. This paper proposes the new business model of IoT open market for information sharing, and the requirements for ensuring security and standardization of open markets.
Pulse diagnosis is one of the representative diagnostic methods in Oriental medicine. In this study, a pulse pressure sensor array coated with silicone, which includes 6 piezo-resistive sensors and 1 thermistor, is fabricated for pulse measurement. It is necessary to coat the pulse sensor array with silicone to avoid the fracture or damage of pressure sensors when the sensor is in contact with the skin and a constant pressure is applied. However, the silicone coating on the pulse sensor array can cause signal interference among the sensors in the pulse sensor array. The interference number (IN), a calculation for expressing the degree of interference among channels, is changed according to the silicone thickness on the pulse sensor array. The IN is increased by a thick silicone coating, but the fabrication error, an important index for the mass production of the sensor array, is reduced by the thickness of the silicone coating. We propose that the thickness of the silicone on the pulse sensor array is an important consideration for the performance of the fabricated sensor and manufacturing repeatability.

The cardiovascular syndrome is the dominant reason for death and the number of deaths due to this syndrome has greatly increased recently. Regular cardiac monitoring is crucial in controlling heart parameters, particularly for initial examination and precautions. The quantity of cardiac patients is rising each day and it would increase the load of work for doctors/nurses in handling the patients' situation. Hence, it needed a solution that might benefit doctors/nurses in monitoring the improvement of the health condition of patients in real-time and likewise assure decreasing medical treatment expenses. Regular heart monitoring via wireless body area networks (WBANs) including implantable and wearable medical devices is contemplated as a life-changing technique for medical assistance. This article focuses on the latest development in wearable and implantable devices for cardiovascular monitoring. First, we go through the wearable devices for the electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring. Then, we reviewed the implantable devices for Blood Pressure (BP) monitoring. Subsequently, the evaluation of leading wearable and implantable sensors for heart monitoring mentioned over the previous six years, the current article provides uncertain direction concerning the description of diagnostic effectiveness, thus intending on making discussion in the technical communal to permit aimed at the formation of well-designed techniques. The article is concluded by debating several technical issues in wearable and implantable technology and their possible potential solutions for conquering these challenges.
This paper proposed a fuzzy logic cross coupled controller which can enhance the path tracking performance of optically guided AGV(Automated Guided Vehicle). The AGV follows the guide path, it cannot be avoid the deviation from the path due to the inevitable error and the deviation must be corrected. Optically guided AGV used in industrial area is controlled by On-Off controller generally, the experimental AGV has three optical sensors in front body. In this structure, we could not know the leaving distance accurately and steering angle from the guided line, so AGV could not be controlled properly with conventional controller in the case of increasing or decreasing velocity. If we mount additional sensors the AGV, we could know the leaving distance and steering angle from the guided line and proper error compensating methode can be applied. But because cost of sensors are high, the cost of total system is increasing. So, in this paper, to improve the tracking performance of AGV which has the minimum number of sensors and fuzzy logic cross coupled controller is proposed. Some simulations and experimental results are presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed controller.
In a nuclear power plant, loose part monitoring and its diagnostic technique is one of the major issues for ensuring the structural integrity of the reactor system. Typically, accelerometers are mounted on the surface of a reactor vessel to localize impact location caused by the impact of metallic substances on the reactor system. However, in some cases, the number of the accelerometers is not enough to estimate the impact location precisely. In such a case, one of alternative plan is to utilize another type sensors that can measure the vibration of the reactor structure even though the measuring frequency ranges are different from each others. The AE sensors installed on the reactor structure can be utilized as additional sensors for loose part monitoring. In this paper, we proposed a new method to estimate impact location by using both accelerometer signal and AE signal, simultaneously. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by an experiment. The experimental results demonstrate that we can enhance the reliability and precision of the loose part monitoring.
