In order to study the effect of diet supplemented with 0.015% (150ppm) of L-tryptophan on the performance of broiler breeder, the performance of parent stock of 1768 breeder(Hubbard) fed on the diet supplemented with L tryptophan was compared with those of 1105 breeders fed on the basal (control) diet Henday egg and settable egg production, fertility, hatchability and number of quality chicks per settable egg were recorded during 133 days(34-52 week-old) of experimental feeding period. Also during 28 days of after experimental feeding period(53-56 week-old) the henday egg and settable egg production were recorded. The henday egg production of breeder fed L-tryptophan was similar with that fed the control diet during 7 weeks of the peak laying period(34-41 week-old) after beginning of the experimental feeding but which was significantly(P<0.05) higher during 84 days of the post peak laying period(41-52 week-old) and 28 days of after experimental feeding period(53-56 week-old) than those of control And birds fed the L-tryptophan layed significantly (P<0.01) higher numbers of the sellable eggs than those fed control diet during the post peak laying and after experimental feeding periods. While the coefficient of variance for the henday egg and settable egg production were shown lower values in birds fed the diet supplemented with L-tryptophan compared with those fed the control diet Also the diet containing L-tryptophan did not affect fertility and hatchability of settable egg though the number of quality chicks per sellable egg was higher significantly(P<0.05) in birds fed the L-tryptophan than that fed the control diet.
This study was performed to develop brand egg. Forty-four week-old Isa Brown were randomly assigned to 8 treatments and the number of hens were 300 per each group. Experimental period was about 10 weeks. The 8 treatment were as follows : astarich 2%(A), astarich 5%(B), chitch chitosan 2%(C), omega-3 powder 2%(D), pyrogreen 1%(E), greenpia 0.2%(F), hydrogenated soy oil 3%(G) and commercial layer feed(H). Eggs were collected at day 0, 7, 14, 40 and 70 for egg quality analyses. Laying rate was significantly higher in astarich groups(B, C) than ant other group, showing average of 88% of laying rate. In terms of egg factors, whole egg weight was the heaviest in control in control(A) and the lightest in omega-3 powder group(E), while egg yolk weight was the heaviest in astarich group(H). Haugh unit(HU) was the mean of 70 for all treatments and there were no significant differences among the treatments. Egg yolk color was significantly different among treatments during experimental period whenever yolk color was measured. At the day 7 after feeding of experimental diets, the yolk color of astarich 5% group(C) was darker and that of omega-3 powder group(E) lighter. The value of yolk color in astarich 5%(C) and 2%(B) was 14.2 and 12.5, respectively. But the rest of the groups did not show any differences in yolk color, showing mean of 11.5. In terms of shell thickness, shell tended to become thinner, but there were no defferences among treatments during experimental period. The mean value of shell thickness was 0.390mm. In conclusion, astarich groups may seem to produce the best possible quality of brand egg.
Nematicidal potential of some plant extracts were evaluated for the control efficacy of the northern root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne hapla on tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) in pot. Tagetes patula, Zoysia japonica, Rhus sylvestris, R. chinensis, and Allium cepu were used. Leaf or root extracts were prepared at the rate of undiluted and diluted to 2, 4, 8, or 16 times with distilled water and treated simultaneously, ahead or later tomato planting. Pre-treatments of extracts were more effective than simultaneous or post-treatments, and the number of egg masses was different according to concentrations. M. hapla was less infected when the T. patula was planted at 15 days ahead tomato planting. Leaf or root extracts of T. patulu reduced damages of M. hapla significantly in all treatments. Leaf extract was more effective than root extract; the number of egg masses was 2.2 and 5.5 in 5-days pre-treatment of leaf or root extracts while 129.4 in control. In Z. japonica treatment, the number of egg masses was 87.2 in control, 21 in undiluted concentration of leaf extract and 28.4 in diluted concentration as 2 times. Leaf extracts of R. sylvestris, R. chinensis and A. cepa were also very effective against M. Izapla. The number of egg masses of M. hapla was 1.6, 1.6, and 6.2 in 5-days pre-treatments of R. sylvestris, R. chinensis and A. cepa, respectively while it was 193.6 in control. Less egg masses of M. hapla were detected in higher concentrations than in lower concentrations of all the plant extracts.
During the breeding season of 1998, breeding ecology of the Great Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus orientalis) was studied at Yangsoo-ri and Yongdam-ri of the Yangpyung-gun, Kyunggi province, Korea. Egg-weight (CV: 6.25) was more variable than either length or breadth, and breadth was the least variable of the measures. Significant variations In overall egg-weight occurred between clutches, and that more of the total variation in egg-weight and shape are due to inter-clutch variation as to intra-clutch variation when the data were pooled. The last egg tends to be larger than the remaining eggs in the clutch of the Great Reed-Warbler, suggest- ing the Great Reed-Warbler may adopt the brood-survival strategy. When method 3 was used, the most common incubation period is 12 days. In the Great Reed-Warbler, the length of the incubation period was related to clutch-size when method 1 (r=0.485, p<0.05) and method 2 (r=0.621, p<0.01) were employed, but not related to egg weight. The average number of days of hatching asynchrony was 2.5, raging 0.5∼2.5. Asynchronous hatching was related to the clutch size (r=0.66, p<0.01). Hatching sequence was closely related to the laying sequence (r=0.93, p<0.001), suggesting Great Reed-Warblers incubate their eggs before clutch completion. The effect of egg weight on hatching asynchrony was found in Great Reed-Warblers (t-test, p<0.01).
First sexual maturity, sex ratio, spawning frequency, deposition of the egg capsules and fecundity of the female Rapana venosa(Valenciennes) inhabited in the artificially closed slag deposit area, Gwangyang Bay were investigated by histologicai and visual observations for natural living resource management. The rate of individuals reaching the first sexual maturity was 51.6% in females measuring 7.1~8.0 cm in shell height, and 100% in those > 10.1 cm. The total number of egg capsules per individual and the mean number of eggs in an egg capsule were 192~382 and 500, respectively. However, the number of eggs per individual and sizes of egg capsules under lower salinity and deficient food conditions in the closed slag deposit area were smaller than those under the optimum salinity and sufficient food conditions in the open regions. Fecundities of the species were approximately from 96,000 to 191,000 eggs/individual with two to low broods(spawning frequencies) during the spawning season. The duration of development in egg capsules was 18~19 days at about 18~2$0^{\circ}C$. R. venosa is a species whose embryos hatch as veliger larvae, not juvenile snail. The sex ratio of female : male was not significantly different from 1 : 1($\chi$$^2$= 0.23, p>0.05).
Egg white intake during chemotherapy is common advice for cancer patients for the prevention of leukopenia. However, the benefit is uncertain. We conducted this prospective study to identify the relationship of egg white intake for gynecologic cancer patients who received carboplatin and paclitaxel and the occurrence of leukopenia. Between January 2014 and January, 2015, 81 patients were interviewed regarding their intake of egg whites before receiving subsequent chemotherapy. The basic data, the details of egg white intake and the grade of leukopenia in the previous cycle were recorded. The mean age was 54.1 years and 80% of the patients had a diagnosis of ovarian or endometrial cancer. The patients were interviewed at cycles 1-3 in 45 cases, 4-6 in 45 cases and 7-9 in two cases. Subsequent dose reduction was found in 6.2% and granulocyte-stimulating growth factors was given at 4.9%. All the patients ate egg whites with variations in the number of eggs per day as follows: less than one (3), one to two (56), three to four (14) and five to six (8). Over 70% were recommended by nurses to eat egg whites and about 63% of patients received other supplemental food. Some 44.1% of the patients who ate less than or equal to two eggs per day and 36.4% who ate more than two eggs per day developed grade 2-4 leukopenia, P = 0.61. In conclusion, the data did not provide evidence in support of the conclusion that a greater egg white intake could significantly reduce the occurrence of leukopenia.
The substitution effects of whey protein isolate(WPI) for egg in the preparation of sponge cake were determined by objective and subjective tests. Milk whey is drained from milk curd as a by-product of cheese manufacture. Whey protein is known as a good nutritional source and a functional material for many processed foods, especially baked goods. WPI contains above 90% whey protein. The specific gravity and viscosity of sponge cakes tend to be affected by WPI substitution. The cooking loss of sponge cakes with WPI substituted for egg(abbreviated as WPI cake) during oven baking was smaller than that made with egg(abbreviated as egg cake) and the specific loaf volume of WPI cake was larger than that of egg cake. The number of pores was highly increased and the size of pores was more uniformly and finely distributed in the cross section of WPI cake than those of egg cake, as observed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The hardness, gumminess and chewiness of WPI cake made with 10-20% WPI substitution were the lowest among all the tested cakes, including egg cake, thereby confirming the considerable improvement in their cake qualities. By the results of sensory evaluation, appearance, pore uniformity, softness, chewiness, moistness, flavor, mouth feeling, and overall acceptability of 10-20% WPI substitute cakes were evaluated as being significantly superior to those of all other cakes(p<0.05). These results support the better physicochemical characteristics and sensory evaluations of sponge cake prepared with 10-20% of WPI substitution for egg.
This study was carried out to estimate combining abilitie or economic traits in layer chickens. The data used in this study were the record of 10 single crosses produced by half diallel cross of 5 lines of Single Comb White Leghorns, such as A, B, C, K and S lines. Total 720 progenies of the crosses were reared at the Poultry Breeding Farm, College of Agriculture, Seoul National University from Feb. 1979 to August, 1980. Combining abilities were estimated by Grilling's mathematical model for the traits; age the first egg, total egg number, egg weight and body weight. The results attained from the studies were summarized as follows; In estimate of combining ability, an age at first egg of BS cross was largely due to significiantly higher general combining ability (G. C. A.) effect of B and S strains than Cand K strains in G. C. A. effect, and to specific combining ability (S. C. A) effect of B and S-trains. AB and BS crosses showed the highest egg Production. AB cross performance was result from high G.C.A. effect of A ana B strains. BS cross performance was result from high G. C. A. effect of B and high S. C. A. effect of BS cross. Specific combining ability effect in egg. weight was not statiscally significiant, but S strain showed high G. C. A. effect. A and B strains in body weight showed significantly low C. C. A. effect. From the above results, BS cross in an age at first egg, AB and BS crosses in egg Production, S strain in egg weight and AB cross in body weight were superior to other strains or crosses.
Field investigations were made in 1991 and 1992 in Kwangju and the western and central Chonnam area to determine the distribution of Lymnaea viridis, the intermediate host of Fasciola hepatica, and to study their life history during the different seasons. It had a wide distribution, existing all over the places, and the principal habitats of the snail were rice paddies. The life cycle was determined by making frequent visits to a series of habitats. Oral application of fenoxycarb, O-ethyl N-(2-(4-phenoxyphenoxy)ethyl) carbamate, the commercial formulation Insegar, on the 1st day of the 3rd instar made no difference in the egg laying and the hatchability as compared to 750 grains for the number of eggs laid, 53 grains for the number of the resideual eggs unlaid, 749 grains for the number of fertirized eggs, 97% for the total hatchability, and 95% for the useful hatchability as in the control but on the first day of the 4th instar, the number of the remainder eggs in the ovary increased by 2.4 folds, and reduced number of the eggs laid, number of unfertilized eggs, the hatchabillity and useful hatchability by 39%, by 66%, by 68% and by 72%, respectively. When diluted Insegar was applied topically every other two days from the pupae to the moth at concentration of 10-6, 10-7, 10-8, 10-9, 10-10 the number of eggs laid, the number of the unfertilized eggs, the total hatchability and the useful hatchability were decreased. More severe decrease took place as concentration lowered and the earlier application.
