  • As Internet usage has increased, the risk of adolescents being exposed to adult content and harmful information on the Internet has also risen. To help prevent adolescents accessing this content, a novel detection method for adult images is proposed. The proposed method involves three steps. First, the Image Of Interest (IOI) is extracted from the image background. Second, the IOI is distinguished from the segmented image using a novel weighting mask, and it is determined to be acceptable or unacceptable. Finally, the features (color and texture) of the IOI or original image are compared to a critical value; if they exceed that value then the image is deemed to be an adult image. A Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to define this optimal critical value. And, the textural features are identified using a gray level co-occurrence matrix. The proposed method increased the precision level of detection by applying a novel weighting mask and a receiver operating characteristic curve. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, 2850 adult and non-adult images were used for experimentation.

  • To isolate novel and useful microbial enzymes from uncultured gastrointestinal microorganisms, a fecal microbial metagenomic library of the pygmy loris was constructed. The library was screened for amylolytic activity, and 8 of 50,000 recombinant clones showed amylolytic activity. Subcloning and sequence analysis of a positive clone led to the identification a novel gene (amyPL) coding for ${\alpha}$-amylase. AmyPL was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) and the purified AmyPL was enzymatically characterized. This study is the first to report the molecular and biochemical characterization of a novel ${\alpha}$-amylase from a gastrointestinal metagenomic library.

  • In this study we propose the novel optimization method of the phase-only computer-generated hologram (CGH), to improve calculation speed compared to the conventional method. While the conventional method is calculated using numerical analysis, the novel method is calculated using the phase-shift characteristic of Fourier transformation. In addition, the selectivity of noise filtering lets it decrease the calculation time. The validity of the reconstructed image using the novel method is verified by comparing simulation results to ideal and conventional data, and the improvement of texture and sharpness of the reconstructed image is confirmed by simulation.

  • This paper derives and analyzes a novel block fast Fourier transform (FFT) based joint detection algorithm. The paper compares the performance and complexity of the novel block-FFT based joint detector to that of the Cholesky based joint detector and single user detection algorithms. The novel algorithm can operate at chip rate sampling, as well as higher sampling rates. For the performance/complexity analysis, the time division duplex (TDD) mode of a wideband code division multiplex access (WCDMA) is considered. The results indicate that the performance of the fast FFT based joint detector is comparable to that of the Cholesky based joint detector, and much superior to that of single user detection algorithms. On the other hand, the complexity of the fast FFT based joint detector is significantly lower than that of the Cholesky based joint detector and less than that of the single user detection algorithms. For the Cholesky based joint detector, the approximate Cholesky decomposition is applied. Moreover, the novel method can also be applied to any generic multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system.

  • This paper describes the design and characteristic analysis of a novel 3-DOF(Degree of Freedom) spherical motor. For multi DOF actuating, several numbers of motors have been used. By the using of normal motors they connected each other in single joint, is necessary to a several type of complex power transmission devices. The 3-DOF spherical motor can drive roll, pitch, and yaw motion in only one unit and it is not necessary to use additional gears and links parts. Therefore the using of 3-DOF spherical motor can eliminate; combined effects of inertia, backlash, non-linear friction, and elastic deformation of gears. In this paper, we propose the novel structured 3-DOF spherical motor and derive its principles of operation. Firstly, we designed concept model of novel structured 3-DOF spherical motor. Next, we derive the control method by calculating the currents. Also, to have intuitive driving control, we express the rotor position in equivalent angle-axis system and determine the exciting period of currents from the calculation result of the currents. To verify the control method, we calculated the currents by the position of rotor. and then we analyzed the characteristics by 3D Finite Element Method when the calculated currents are excited.

  • A code-based cryptosystem can resist quantum-computing attacks. However, an original system based on the Goppa code has a large key size, which makes it unpractical in embedded devices with limited sources. Many special error-correcting codes have recently been developed to reduce the key size, and yet these systems are easily broken through side channel attacks, particularly differential power analysis (DPA) attacks, when they are applied to hardware devices. To address this problem, a higher-order masking scheme for a McEliece cryptosystem based on the quasi-dyadic moderate density parity check (QD-MDPC) code has been proposed. The proposed scheme has a small key size and is able to resist DPA attacks. In this paper, a novel McEliece cryptosystem based on the QD-MDPC code is demonstrated. The key size of this novel cryptosystem is reduced by 78 times, which meets the requirements of embedded devices. Further, based on the novel cryptosystem, a higher-order masking scheme was developed by constructing an extension Ishai-Sahai-Wagne (ISW) masking scheme. The authenticity and integrity analysis verify that the proposed scheme has higher security than conventional approaches. Finally, a side channel attack experiment was also conducted to verify that the novel masking system is able to defend against high-order DPA attacks on hardware devices. Based on the experimental validation, it can be concluded that the proposed higher-order masking scheme can be applied as an advanced protection solution for devices with limited resources.

  • In this paper, an exact analytical solution is developed for the analysis of the post-buckling non-linear response of simply supported deformable symmetric composite beams. For this, a new theory of higher order shear deformation is used for the analysis of composite beams in post-buckling. Unlike any other shear deformation beam theories, the number of functions unknown in the present theory is only two as the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, while three unknowns are needed in the case of the other beam theories. The theory presents a parabolic distribution of transverse shear stresses, which satisfies the nullity conditions on both sides of the beam without a shear correction factor. The shear effect has a significant contribution to buckling and post-buckling behaviour. The results of this analysis show that classical and first-order theories underestimate the amplitude of the buckling whereas all the theories considered in this study give results very close to the static response of post-buckling. The numerical results obtained with the novel theory are not only much more accurate than those obtained using the Euler-Bernoulli theory but are almost comparable to those obtained using higher order theories, Accuracy and effectiveness of the current theory.

  • Through opinion mining, we can analyze the degree of positive or negative sentiments that customers feel about important entities or attributes in online customer reviews. But, the limit of the opinion mining techniques is to provide only simple functions in analyzing the reviews. In this paper, we proposed novel techniques that can analyze the online customer reviews multi-dimensionally. The novel technique is to modify the existing OLAP techniques so that they can be applied to text data. The novel technique, that is, multi-dimensional analytic model consists of noun, adjective and document axes which are converted into four relational tables in relational database. The multi-dimensional analysis model would be new framework which can converge the existing opinion mining, information summarization and clustering algorithms. In this paper, we implemented the multi-dimensional analysis model and algorithms. we recognized that the system would enable us to analyze the online customer reviews more complexly.

  • Purpose: It is to develop an agricultural three-directional dumping vehicle that can help farmers reduce intensive labor when carrying heavy loads and for easy dumping. In addition, a novel mechanism was applied for controlling the direction of the tilting cargo box by using a single hydraulic cylinder and simple apparatus. The overturning safety was analyzed to provide safe-use ground slope region of the vehicle to be used at upland fields and orchards. Methods: The developed three-directional dumping vehicle was constructed using a cargo box, vehicle frame, driving components, lifting components, and controller. The novel mechanism of controlling the dumping direction involves the operation of two latching bars, which selectively release or collapse the connecting edge between the vehicle frame and cargo box. A multibody dynamics analysis software (RecurDynV8R5) was used to determine the safe-use ground slope area when tilting the cargo box at slopes. A computer analysis was conducted by increasing the ground slope while rotating the vehicle when the cargo box comprised loads of 300 and 500 kg and stacking heights of 40 and 80 cm, respectively. Results: The three-directional dumping vehicle was successfully manufactured, and the cargo box was tilted at $37^{\circ}$ and $35^{\circ}$ for dumping forward and sideways. The latching bars were manually and selectively collapsed with the vehicle frame to control the dumping direction. When forward dumping, the safe-use ground slope was over $20^{\circ}$ in all vehicle directions and loaded conditions. Conclusions: A three-directional dumping vehicle was developed to reduce labor-intensive work in the farming environment. The user can easily control the dumping direction by using the control panel. The vehicle was safe to be used in most of the Korean upland fields and orchards (area over 96%) for the forward dumping.

  • Housekeeping genes are widely used as internal controls in a variety of study types, including real time RT-PCR, microarrays, Northern analysis and RNase protection assays. However, even commonly used housekeeping genes may vary in stability depending on the cell type or disease being studied. Thus, it is necessary to identify additional housekeeping-type genes that show sample-independent stability. Here, we used statistical analysis to examine a large human microarray database, seeking genes that were stably expressed in various tissues, disease states and cell lines. We further selected genes that were expressed at different levels, because reference and target genes should be present in similar copy numbers to achieve reliable quantitative results. Real time RT-PCR amplification of three newly identified reference genes, CGI-119, CTBP1 and GOLGAl, alongside three well-known housekeeping genes, B2M, GAPD, and TUBB, confirmed that the newly identified genes were more stably expressed in individual samples with similar ranges. These results collectively suggest that statistical analysis of microarray data can be used to identify new candidate housekeeping genes showing consistent expression across tissues and diseases. Our analysis identified three novel candidate housekeeping genes (CGI-119, GOLGA1, and CTBP1) that could prove useful for normalization across a variety of RNA-based techniques.
