  • In the design and analysis of electric machines the precise calculation of iron loss has incredible significance. It is tough to foresee iron losses precisely in machines due to distribution of non sinusoidal flux density. It is necessary to approximate the iron losses for the precise computation of efficiency. This paper presents a novel approach for the prediction of iron losses of the brushless dc (BLDC) motors by considering the effects of minor hysteresis loops in the simplified model. The novel iron loss model results are compared with the simplified model and with finite element method (FEM).

  • This paper presents single-phase SRM drive system with single-stage high power factor and low torque ripple. Single-phase SRM has simple mechanical and electrical structure, robust and high speed operation characteristic. But conventional SRM drive with diode bridge rectifier and filter capacitor has a low power factor because of short charge time of capacitor. Therefore, this paper presents a novel single-phase SRM drive with single-stage structure circuit, which can improve the power factor and reduce peak torque ripple. A novel switching topology is presented base on mathematical analysis. The novel drive method is verified by simulations and experiments.

  • This paper introduces novel a two-phase permanent magnet BLDC (PMBLDC) motor with both an asymmetric tooth and an auxiliary tooth in order to improve the dead point, efficiency and torque ripple. To calculate the merits of introducing each of the asymmetric tooth and the auxiliary tooth, characteristic analysis is performed respectively using finite element method (FEM). To maximize performance, we propose a novel model which combines the asymmetric tooth and the auxiliary tooth. To maximize the efficiency of the novel model, an optimal design is processed using the Kriging method and a genetic algorithm. Finally, an experiment is used to confirm the initial and optimal design results.

  • Cryptography provides an effective solution to secure the communication over public networks. The communication over public networks that includes electronic commerce, business and military services, necessitates the requirement of simple and robust encryption techniques. In this paper, a novel image encryption method which employs calligraphy based hybrid scan and random number is presented. The original image is scrambled by pixel position permutation with calligraphy based diagonal and novel calligraphy based scan patterns. The cipher image is obtained by XORing the scrambled image with random numbers. The suggested method resists statistical, differential, entropy, and noise attacks which have been demonstrated with a set of standard images.

  • During the past few decades, the lightning protection angle (${\alpha}$) has been proposed through several technical matters, namely graphical technique, numerical data and mathematical equation respectively. Nevertheless, these techniques are very complicated, and are difficult to utilize because they also contain several constraints practically. Hence, this paper proposes a novel equation of the lightning protection angle, which is a simple correlation, concise and easy to be implemented. Furthermore, the reliable result of this equation can confirm accuracy through comparative analysis with all previous techniques. As a result, these solutions are altogether equivalent. This novel equation can analyze the lightning protection angle of the vertical air termination system installed at the vertex of the royal pagoda in a Khema-pirataram temple which is at high risk due to lightning flashes.

  • To cope with the high power density and low cost in switching power supply, this paper presents a novel planar transformer, which can regulate the leakage inductance of planar transformer used for LLC resonant converter. Modeling and analysis of a novel planar transformer are discussed in detail and a prototype 200W LLC resonant converter is tested to verify.

  • We propose a novel HMI UI/UX for an in-vehicle infotainment system. Our proposed HMI UI comprises multimodal interfaces that allow a driver to safely and intuitively manipulate an infotainment system while driving. Our analysis of a touchscreen interface-based HMI UI/UX reveals that a driver's use of such an interface while driving can cause the driver to be seriously distracted. Our proposed HMI UI/UX is a novel manipulation mechanism for a vehicle infotainment service. It consists of several interfaces that incorporate a variety of modalities, such as speech recognition, a manipulating device, and hand gesture recognition. In addition, we provide an HMI UI framework designed to be manipulated using a simple method based on four directions and one selection motion. Extensive quantitative and qualitative in-vehicle experiments demonstrate that the proposed HMI UI/UX is an efficient mechanism through which to manipulate an infotainment system while driving.

  • Axonal Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT2) has most frequently been associated with mutations in the MFN2 gene. MFN2 encodes mitofusin 2, which is a mitochondrial fusion protein that plays an essential role in mitochondrial function. We report CMT2 in a Korean father and his son that manifested with gait difficulties and progressive atrophy of the lower legs. Molecular analysis revealed a novel heterozygous c.2096T>C (p.Leu699Pro) mutation in the exon 18 of MFN2 in both subjects. We suggest that this novel mutation in MFN2 is probably a pathogenic mutation for CMT2.

  • This paper examines the results from three-dimensional dynamic finite element analysis undertaken to develop a new dynamically installed anchor (DIA). Several candidate shapes of new DIAs were selected after an investigation into previous researches of existing DIA designs. The performances of selected DIAs during the installation and loading in non-homogeneous clay were investigated through large deformation finite element (LDFE) analyses. Findings were compared to the current anchors in operation (i.e., Torpedo and Omni-Max DIA) to assess the viability of the new designs in the field. Overall, the anchor embedment depths of the novel DIAs lied under the results of OMNI-Max DIA. And also, the tracked anchor trajectory confirmed that, the novel DIAs dove deeper with stiffer travelling angle, compared to the OMNI-Max DIA. These elements are more critical and beneficial especially in a field where the achieved embedment depths are generally low.

  • This paper is about some aspects of the late-modern representation of antiquity in Western countries. The timeframe is mostly the decades since the 1980s, but some works are also mentioned from previous phases. Some information is given on the late-modern historical novel, characterized by mixture of genres and intertextual references to historical events and contemporary varieties of discourse. Eclecticism would seem to be a characteristic feature, and it mainly consists of a mixture of real events and imagination, cohabitation of ancient settings and modernized characters, and interaction between high and low culture. Commercialization often accompanies novels on antiquity in the $21^{st}$ century. And ideologies such as romanness, germanism and barbarianism are employed by some authors to refer to contemporary realities. A number of films and novels are mentioned. More specific analysis focuses on Valerio Manfredi's The Last Legion and the film based on the book; Simon Scarrow's Gladiator: The Fight for Freedom; and Robert Harris's Pompeii.
