  • Cold forging technology of a gear product is being interested in the dimensional accuracy, high stiffness and reduction of stress concentration. Especially it is needed to avoid the damage due to extremely high local pressure. Therefore it is important to ensure high pressure in die design. In this study, single die insert type and splitted die insert type are considered to recognize the notch effects in the die of sprocket forming. The stress concentration has been released at the notch area by the cushion effect in the splitted die insert.

  • It has been well known that ductile fracture of steels is accelerated by triaxial stresses. The characteristics of ductile crack initiation in steels are evaluated quantitatively using two-parameters criterion based on equivalent plastic strain and stress triaxiality. This study provides the fundamental clarification of the effect of strength mismatching, which can elevate plastic constraint due to heterogeneous plastic straining, loading mode and loading rate on critical condition to initiate ductile crack from notch root using equivalent plastic strain and stress triaxiality based on the two-parameter criterion obtained on homogeneous specimens under static tension. The critical condition to initiate ductile crack from notch root for strength mismatched bend specimens under both static and dynamic loading would be almost the same as that for homogeneous tensile specimens with circumferential sharp notch under static loading.

  • This paper presents the vibration characteristic of interior type permanent magnet (IPM) motor according to rotor design. In the design methods, the optimal notchs are put on the rotor pole face, which have an effect on variation of permanent magnet (PM) shape or residual flux density of PM. Through the space harmonics field analysis, the positions of notch are found and the optimal shapes of notch are decided by using Finite Element Method (FEM). The validity of the proposed method is confirmed with experiments. Therefore, the vibration, starting current and efficiency of IPM is measured by experiment.

동적광탄성 실험에 의한 응력이완 노치부근에서의 접촉특이응력해석 (Contact Singular Stress with Relief Notch by Using Dynamic Photoelasticity)

  • The dynamic photoelastic technique has been utilized to investigate the possibility of relieving the large local singular stresses which are induce in the corner of a right angled indenter. The indenter compresses a semi-infinite body dynamically with an impact load applied on the top of the indenter. The effect of geometric changes to the indenter in terms of the diameter (d) and the location (ℓ) of the notch on the relieving of the dynamic contact stresses are investigated. A multi-spark-high speed camera with twelve sparks was used to take dynamic photographs. The contact singular stresses were found to be released by introducing the relief notch along the indenter. The optimal location and geometry of the relief notch need further experimental investigation.

노치-백 자동차의 공기역학적 임계 현상에 관한 실험적 연구 (An experimental study on aerodynamic critical phenomenon of notch-back car)

  • The aerodynamic critical phenomenon of notch-back type automobile-like bodies was investigated experimentally. The aerodynamic forces were measured for the various bodies of different back-light rake angle at R$_{e}$0.8*10$^{5}$ , 1.0*10$^{6}$ and 1.4*10$^{6}$ . Also, surface flow visualization was effected by the oil mixture. It was found that the critical phenomenon for the notch-back type bodies was milder than for the hatch-back type bodies; the drag vs. slant angle curve for the notch-back type bodies exhibiting local maximum was much smoother. Surface oil flow visualization revealed that the flow pattern associated with the critical phenomenon was characterized by the reattachment of the separated flow on the boot. The effect of the forebody on the critical phenomenon was seen to be negligible.e.

  • 1. The crack is inifiated at a toe notch and reptured for the skip and continuous welding. 2. Fatigue life of continuous welding is greater than that of skip welding and fatigue life of 2pad continuous welding appears 1.7 times more than that of pad continuous welding. 3. For the skip and continuous welding, fatigue than that of welding materials appears shorter than that of welding materials because of the effect of plastic strain and compressive residual stresses at the crack tip, which are generated by the over loading. 4. Inter-relationship between da/dN-ΔK and delayed phenomenon increases linearly at the state growth area of heat effect section for the skip and continuous welding.

  • Description is given of the effect of fuse-element notch shape on interruption parameters. The notch of fuse-elements have all the same area. Tests were carried out at direct current and carried out the effect of the fuse element construction on the process of interrupting short circuit and overload current. The arcing phenomenon in a low voltage fuse operation in case of high current value of short circuit is analyzed.

  • Hydraulic servo valves are widely used in various fluid power systems because of their fast response and precision control. In this paper, we studied the effect of metering notch shapes and amount of their openings on the flow characteristics within the spool valve using a computational fluid dynamic (CFD) code, FLUENT. To obtain the results for more realistic operating conditions, viscous heating due to the jet flow and viscosity variation of the hydraulic fluid with temperature were considered. For two types of notch shape, streamlines, oil temperature and viscosity distributions, and variations of flow and friction forces acting on spool were showed. The flow and friction forces affected by the metering notch shapes and their openings, and oil temperature rise near metering notch was significant enough to results in the jamming phenomenon. A thermohydrodynamic (THD) flow analysis adopted in this paper can be used in optimum design of hydraulic servo valves.

  • 노치의 기하학적 형상이 동적응력집중계수에 미치는 영향을 동적 광탄성 시험법을 이용하여 규명하였다. 동적 하중 장치로부터 발생하는 탄성파에 의하여 여러 종류의 노치의 기하학적 형상 주위에서 발생하는 동적응력장을 $10^6/sec$의 촬영 속도를 갖는 Cranz-Shardin형 카메라를 사용하여 12장면을 기록하였다. 다양한 노치 선단의 형상에 대한 동적응력특이지수를 간단한 모델링식으로 결정하는 방안을 제시하고, 여러 가지 노치의 기하학적 형상에 대응하여 발생하는 동적응력집중현상을 비교하는데 이용하였다. 동적 광탄성 시험법으로 얻어진 동적응력장을 면밀히 해석하여, 동적응력집중계수가 노치의 형상에 크게 의존함을 규명하였다.
