The purpose of this paper is to diagnose osmidrosis visually and quantify the extent of osmidrosis. To achieve this, we designed the diagnosis method of osmidrosis using electronic nose system. The developed electronic nose system use principal component analysis for visualization of osmidrosis and fuzzy c-means algorithm for quantification. To confirm the efficiency of electronic nose system for osmidrosis diagnosis, we obtained samples from 34 volunteers and compared our experiment results with the doctor's diagnosis, and we met with successful results.
The biomarkers related to the colorectal cancers and diseases were surveyed and summarized, and an optical electronic nose was researched and developed for their analysis. The prototyped sensor revealed that it could discriminate two gases: ethanol 2000 ppm and $CO_2$ 500 ppm. Furthermore, the sensor demonstrated the potential capability of estimation of $CO_2$ concentration with 95% confidence level. Based on the above experimental results, the developed optical electronic nose was tested with the mixtures of gases (Isopropyl Alcohol, Acetone, Methanol, and Toluene) and the biomarkers were successfully segregated using principal component analysis.
Significant progress has been made recently in detection of highly sensitive volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using chemical sensors. Combined with the progress in design of micro sensors array and electronic nose systems, these advances enable new applications for detection of extremely low concentrations of breath-related VOCs. State of the art detection technology in turn enables commercial sensor systems for health care applications, with high detection sensitivity and small size, weight and power consumption characteristics. We have been developing an intelligent electronic nose system for detection of VOCs for healthcare breath analysis applications. This paper reviews our contribution to monitoring of respiratory diseases and to diabetic monitoring using an intelligent electronic nose system for detection of low concentration VOCs using breath analysis techniques.

This study is on the estimation method of toot temperature for different tool nose radius and cutting conditions in turning. Experimental analysis has been performed in different cutting conditions such as cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut for the tool nose radius, 0.4R, 0.8R using SMC workpiece materials. Tool temperature is measured using a thermo-couple which is embedded in the insert tip. Using multiple linear regression method, the tool temperature can be determined as an exponential equation with cutting variables and tool nose diameters for the different tool materials. The equations determined in this study show a good correlation for the cutting conditions and can be used for a tool temperature estimation technique. The result indicates that the tool temperature decreases for increasing the tool nose radius in general. Also, nose radius hardly influences on the tool temperature compared with cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut. This method will be useful for the estimation of tool life and temperature using limited experimental data for given cutting conditions.
In patients having a short nose with a short septal length and/or severe columellar retraction, a septal extension graft is a good solution, as it allows the dome to move caudally and pushes down the columellar base. Fixing the medial crura of the alar cartilages to a septal extension graft leads to an uncomfortably rigid nasal tip and columella, and results in unnatural facial animation. Further, because of the relatively small and weak septal cartilage in the East Asian population, undercorrection of a short nose is not uncommon. To overcome these shortcomings, we have used the septal extension graft combined with a derotation graft. Among 113 patients who underwent the combined procedure, 82 patients had a short nose deformity alone; the remaining 31 patients had a short nose with columellar retraction. Thirty-two patients complained of nasal tip stiffness caused by a septal extension graft from previous operations. In addition to the septal extension graft, a derotation graft was used for bridging the gap between the alar cartilages and the septal extension graft for tip lengthening. Satisfactory results were obtained in 102 (90%) patients. Eleven (10%) patients required revision surgery. This combination method is a good surgical option for patients who have a short nose with small septal cartilages and do not have sufficient cartilage for tip lengthening by using a septal extension graft alone. It can also overcome the postoperative nasal tip rigidity of a septal extension graft.
This study is to provide details of the unique anatomical features on the alar lobule region in Korean nose. We hypothesized that the anatomy of this area differs according to the shape of the alar lobule. Based on the prominence and roundness of alar lobules, they were classified into horizontal and vertical types. A total of 20 fresh cadaver noses(10 for each type) were dissected. The anatomical differences between the horizontal and vertical types were investigated by gross and histologic studies. The alar lobule is composed of three layers, i.e., external skin, muscle, and vestibular skin. Profound differences between the two alar lobule types were evident in terms of the volume of the dilator naris anterior muscle, the insertion of the dilator naris posterior muscle, and the thickness of the external skin at the lateral end of the alar circumference. The horizontal type has a greater volume of dilator naris anterior muscle, an additional insertion of the dilator naris posterior muscle, and thicker external skin at the lateral end of the alar circumference than the vertical type. The Korean nose differs anatomically and morphologically from the Caucasian nose. This study shows that there are anatomic differences between the horizontal and vertical types of alar lobules in Korean nose.
Purpose: Saddle nose deformity results from lack of support to the nasal dorsum. The integrity of both the cartilaginous or bony portion of the nose is compromised. Cantilever bone graft is the mainstay for correction of saddle nose deformity, but the problems of bone graft are stiffness of the nasal tip and resorption. Thus the authors propose a costochondral cantilever graft, with the bony and cartilaginous portion harvested as one block, using cartilaginous portion as support to the nasal tip. Methods: Between October of 1996 and July of 2005, 8 cases of saddle nose deformity were treated by the same surgeon. All patients had undergone costochondral cantilever graft. Postoperative evaluation included the depression of the nasal dorsum and tip. Comparisons of preoperative and postoperative photographs was done if possible. Results: The mean follow-up period was 5.9 years. The results were excellent aesthetically and there was no complication. Conclusion: The authors' method maximize the benefits of each bone and cartilage graft while minimizing their inherent limitations.
The human nose is located in the center of the face and it's cosmetic importance is high. The contour of the nasal dorsum and side walls play a major role in the shaping of the nose, and even a slight distortion may results in significant variance of the human facies. However, in the case of patients with wide nasal bone, augmention rhinoplasty can make nasal planes look wide, resulting in bulbous appearing noses or lateral borders of the nasal implant may be visible after the surgery making the final cosmetic results unsatisfactory. To solve such problems, from march, 1999 to march, 2004, the authors have performed augmention rhinoplasty in 36 patients. The cause of operations were as follows: flat nose 20, hump nose 5, deviated nose 4, secondary rhinoplasty 7. Paramedian osteotomy was performed at a distance that was the same as the width of the implant from the midline(5 mm + 5 mm). To prevent it from connecting to the roof at the lateral osteotomy line, intentional green stick fracture of the roof was performed. Agumentation rhinoplasty was done with either Silicone or Gortex and ear cartilage as a supplement. The follow up period was 2 weeks to 13 months with an average of 5.5 months. There were no infections and postoperative bleeding. As a result, the nose was augmented higher and narrower than before which we and the patient both found highly satisfactory.

This study performed the structure analysis for development and localization of main and nose wheel in Korean Helicopter Program(KHP). Structural stability of wheel is evaluated using ANSYS. Considering wheel and tire interface, Stress analysis was conducted by applying pneumatic of tire, static load, radial load and combined load on main and nose wheel. Considering yield strength at which plastic deformation occurs, simulation results suggest the method which increases structure stability after comparing maximum stress and yield strength.

Several voltage instability/collapse problems that have occurred in the electric utility industry worldwide have gained the attention of engineers and researchers of electric power systems. This paper proposes an effective calculation scheme of the extreme loading point and nose curves(P-V curves) using modified Newton-Raphson(N-R) load flow method and the Continuation Method. This method provides detail and visual information of the power system voltage profile and operating margin ro operators and planners. In this paper, a modified load flow claculation method for ill-conditioned power systems is introduced for the purpose of seeking more precise load flow solutions and nose curves, and the Continuation Method is also used as a part of the solution algorithm for the calculation of extreme loading point and nose curves. The conventional polar coordinate based N-R load flow program is modified to avoid numerical difficulties caused by the singularity of the Jacobian matrix occuring in the vicinity of extreme loading point of heavily loaded systems. Application results of the proposed method to Klos-Kerner 11-bus system and modified IEE-30-bus system are presented to assure the usefulness of the approach.
