  • Cyclic variability limits the range of operating conditions of spark ignition engines, especially under lean and highly diluted operation conditions. The cyclic combustion variations can be characterized by pressure parameters, combustion related parameters, and flame-front related parameters. The coefficient of variation (COV) in indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP) defines the cyclic variability in indicated work per cycle.

  • This paper targets to investigate the solution of fuzzy quadratic Riccati differential equations with various types of fuzzy environment using Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM). Fuzzy convex normalized sets are used for the fuzzy parameter and variables. Obtained results are depicted in term of plots to show the efficiency of the proposed method.

  • In South Korea with forest as a major land cover class (over 60% of the country), many wildfires occur every year. Wildfires weaken the shear strength of the soil, forming a layer of soil that is vulnerable to landslides. It is important to identify the severity of a wildfire as well as the burned area to sustainably manage the forest. Although satellite remote sensing has been widely used to map wildfire severity, it is often difficult to determine the severity using only the temporal change of satellite-derived indices such as Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Normalized Burn Ratio (NBR). In this study, we proposed an approach for determining wildfire severity based on machine learning through the synergistic use of Sentinel-1A Synthetic Aperture Radar-C data and Sentinel-2A Multi Spectral Instrument data. Three wildfire cases-Samcheok in May 2017, Gangreung·Donghae in April 2019, and Gosung·Sokcho in April 2019-were used for developing wildfire severity mapping models with three machine learning algorithms (i.e., Random Forest, Logistic Regression, and Support Vector Machine). The results showed that the random forest model yielded the best performance, resulting in an overall accuracy of 82.3%. The cross-site validation to examine the spatiotemporal transferability of the machine learning models showed that the models were highly sensitive to temporal differences between the training and validation sites, especially in the early growing season. This implies that a more robust model with high spatiotemporal transferability can be developed when more wildfire cases with different seasons and areas are added in the future.

  • We propose an intensity-based image registration method for medical images. The proposed registration is performed by the use of a new measure based on the entropy of conditional probabilities. To achieve the registration, we define a modified conditional entropy (MCE) computed from the joint histograms for the area intensities of two given images. And we conduct experiments with our method as well as existing methods based on the sum of squared differences (SSD), normalized correlation coefficient (NCC), normalized mutual information (NMI) criteria. We evaluate the precision of SSD-, NCC-, MI- and MCE-based measurements by comparing the registration obtained from the same modality magnetic resonance (MR) images and the different modality transformed MR/transformed CT images. The experimental results show that the proposed method is faster and more accurate than other optimization methods.

  • In this paper, broadband voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) using electronically controlled metamaterial transmission line based on varactor-loaded split-ring resonator (VLSRR) is presented. First, it is demonstrated that VLSRR coupled to microstrip line can lead to metamaterial transmission line with tuning capability. The negative effective permeability is provided by the VLSRR in a narrow band above the resonant frequency, which can be bias controlled by virtue of the presence of varactor diodes. The VCO with 1.8 V power supply has phase noise of $-108.84\;{\sim}\;-106.84\;dBc/Hz$ @ 100 Hz in the tuning range, $5.47\;{\sim}\;5.84\;GHz$. The figure of merit (FOM) called power-frequency-tuning-normalized (PFTN) is 20.144 dB.

  • In this study, we tried to analyze the correlation between corn yield and, satellite-based vegetation index, NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and various climatic factors in the three provinces of Northeast China during the past 20 years (1996-2015). The corn yields in the corn cultivation area of all three provinces showed a statistically significant positive correlation with the NDVI of the harvest period. Also, these have significant negative correlation with the daily maximum temperature in August and September and the occurrence frequency of above $30^{\circ}C$ for the summer season. The correlation between the corn yields and the precipitation showed a significant positive coefficient in only Liaoning Province in July, but the correlation was not found in Jilin and Heilongjiang Provinces. In this study, the NDVI and the daily maximum temperature data are suitable to be used as predictors of corn yield in the three provinces of Northeast China provinces.

  • Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the characteristics of the autonomic innervation of the heart in Precocious Puberty (PP) Girls. Methods: We studied 87 girls visiting Dongshin University Suncheon Oriental Medicine hospital from first Januarty 2013 to 31th December 2015. Among the 87 girls who were selected 14 people under the age of 8. The subjects were categorized in two groups, 2 PP girls and 12 healthy controls. We studied the difference of Heart rate variability (HRV) between two groups by Independent samples T-test using SPSS for windows (version 22.0).Results: The Standard deviation of all normal R-R intervals (SDNN), The spuare root of the sum of the spuare of difference between adjacent normal R-R intervals (RMS-SD) of PP group was non-significantly lower than non-PP group. Total power (TP), Very low frequency power (VLF), High frequency power (HF), Low frequency power (LF) of PP group was non-significantly lower than non-PP group, LF/HF ratio of PP group was significantly higher than non-PP group. Normalized high frequency power (HF norm) of PP group was non-significantly lower than non-PP group. Normalized low frequency power (LF norm) of PP was non-signficantly higher than non-PP group. Conclusion: The results suggest that imbalance of sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system from girls of precocious puberty can be seen.

  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is often attributed to malalignment and maltracking of patella within the patellofemoral joint. Most exercise for PFPS has focused on selectively strengthening the vastus medialis oblique muscle (VMO). This study was designed to identify the effect of medial, lateral wedge and difference of Quadriceps angle (Q-angle) on vastus medialis oblique/vastus lateralis muscle (VL) activity ratios. The subjects were twenty young adult males who had not experienced any knee injury. They were asked to perform isometric contraction exercises in three postures using medial and lateral wedge. The EMG activity of the VL and VMO were recorded in three postures by surface electrodes and normalized by %MVC values derived from seated, isometric knee extensions. The normalized EMG activity levels (%MVC) of the VL and VMO for the three postures of the lower extremities were compared using 2-way repeated measures ANOVA with 1 between-subject factor (group), and 1 within-subject factor (wedge). Results of repeated measures of ANOVA's revealed that the medial wedge isometric contraction exercise produced significantly greater EMG activity of VMO/VL ratios in Group I (Q-angle $18^{\circ}$ or less) (p<.05). But, the medial wedge isometric contraction exercise was no significant difference of VMO/VL ratios in Group II (Q-angle $19^{\circ}$ or more) (p>.05). These results have important implications for selective VMO muscle strengthening exercises in PFPS patients.
