  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the muscle activations and Ground Reaction Force(GRF) in university judo players, and provide the guide of training in Judo. Using surface electrode electromyography(EMG), we evaluated muscle activity in 5 university judo players during the Judo Uke Movements. Surface electrodes were used to record the level of muscle activity in the Tibialis Anterior, Rectus Femoris, Elector Spinae, Gluteus Maximus, Gastrocnemius muscles during the Uke. These signals were compared with %RVC(Reference voluntary contraction) which was normalized by IEMG(Integrated EMG). The Uke was divided into four phases : Kuzushi-1, Kuzushi-2, Tsukuri, Kake. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. The effective Uke Movements needs to short time in the Kake Phase 2. The Analysis of Electromyography of Uke Movements in Supporting Leg; TA(Tibialis anterior) had Higher %RVC in the Kuzushi Phase, RF(Rectus Femoris) had Higher %RVC in the Tsukuri Phase, GM(Gluteus Maximus) had Higher %RVC in the Kake Phase 3. The ground reaction force for Z(vertical) direction was showed increase tendency in Kuzushi phase, Tsukuri phase and decrease tendency in Kake phase.

  • The current study assessed the effect of a bolt hole on tensile fatigue properties of CFRP laminates. Two specimens, i.e. $[(0/90)_3]S$, $[(0/45/90/-45)_2]_S$, were analyzed using a finite element method and were experimentally tested for cases, both with and without a hole, whose diameter corresponded to 0.12 times the specimen width. Delamination positions predicted by a 3-dimensional static finite element analysis were matched well to those observed by an ultrasonic imaging system in the middle of fatigue test. A hole whose diameter corresponds to 0.12 times the specimen width caused the fatigue strength to decrease by 9% and 11% under 5 Hz loading frequency, and by 22% and 25% under 10 Hz loading frequency for $[(0/90)_3]_S$ and $[(0/45/90/-45)_2]_S$, respectively. Because the decrease in sectional area due to the hole was normalized in calculation of the tensile strength, a stress concentration around the hole is believed to induce the strength degradation of fatigue specimens. From the finite element analyses, the stress concentration factor around a hole was expected as 8.8 and 9.5 for $[(0/90)_3]_S$ and $[(0/45/90/-45)_2]_S$, respectively.

  • Landmark Spots in 2D gel electrophoresis are used in many methods of 2DEG spot matching. Landmark Spots are obtained manually and it is a bottle neck in the entire protein analysis process. Automated landmark spots detection is a very crucial topic in processing a massive amount of 2DGE data. In this paper, Automated landmark spot detection is proposed using point pattern matching and graph theory. Neighbor spots are defined by a graph theory to use and only a centered spot and its neighbor spots are considered for spot matching. Normalized Hausdorff distance is introduced as a criterion for measuring degree of similarity. In the conclusion, the method proposed in this paper can get about 50% of the total spot pairs and the accuracy rate is almost 100%, which the requirements of landmark spots are fully satisfied.

  • The purpose of the study is to develop and validate landslide susceptibility map of Bhotang village development committee, Nepal using FR (Frequency Ration) and SI (Statistical Index) methods. For the purpose, firstly, a landslide inventory map was constructed based on mainly high resolution satellite images available in Google Earth Pro, and rest fieldwork as verification. Secondly, ten conditioning factors of landslide occurrence, namely: altitude, slope, aspect, mean topographic wetness index, landcover, normalized difference vegetation index, dominant soil, distance to river, distance to lineaments and rainfall, were derived and used for the development of landslide susceptibility map in GIS (Geographic Information System) environment. The landslide inventory of total 116 landslides was divided randomly such that 70% were used for training and remaining 30% for validating result by receiver operating characteristics curve analysis. The area under the curve were found to be greater than 0.7 indicating an acceptable susceptibility maps obtained using FR and SI methods in GIS for hilly region of Nepal.

  • Purpose: This study examined the muscle activities of the erector spinae (ES) and gluteus maximus (GM) during bridging exercises with and without abdominal-hollowing. Methods: Nineteen healthy subjects with no medical history of low back pain or hip flexion contracture were enrolled in this study. The subjects performed bridging exercises with and without abdominal hollowing or with and without a one-leg lift. The muscle activities of the ES and GM were measured by surface electromyography during bridging exercises under each condition. A 2 (abdominal hollowing)X2 (one-leg lift) repeated ANOVA was used to compare the normalized muscle activities of the ES and GM. Results: The muscle activity of the ES during bridging exercise with abdominal-hollowing was significantly smaller than that without abdominal-hollowing (p=0.00). The muscle activities of the GM during bridging exercise with abdominal-hollowing were significantly greater than those without abdominal-hollowing (p=0.00). In addition, the muscle activities of the GM during bridging exercise with one-leg lifting was significantly greater than that without one-leg lifting (p=0.00). Conclusion: Bridging exercise with abdominal-hollowing appears to be more effective on activating the GM muscle than that without abdominal-hollowing minimizing the activation of the ES muscle.

  • The geometry of headboxes is of great importance in obtaining good formation, even basis weight profile and fiber orientation. Therefore, many attentions have been made to examine the influence of the geometry of headboxes on the flow behavior. In this study, to evaluate flow behavior in headboxes, three types of turbulence generators were examined using pilot headbox. Velocity profiles in MD and CD were measured using a pressure monitoring system and flow in headboxes was visualized by dye injection method. CD velocity profiles at three different locations inside the slice of Type A headbox showed that the velocity increased downstream to slice exit and had a pattern with four humps due to the persisting wall effect of step diffusors. Results from the evaluation of normalized velocity profile and flow visualization showed that L-shaped Type C headbox caused a large pressure drop but it lacked in flow stabilizing ability.

  • Because patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) have depressed vagal modulation and the mortality risk from acute myocardial infarction is lower in patients with higher vagal modulation, methods that can increase vagal modulation are desirable in patients with CAD. We intended to inspect the effect of recumbent posture on vagal modulation. By using angiography, 33 patients with abnormal (CAD group) and 33 patients with normal coronary arteries (control group) were studied. The nonlinear as well as the linear characteristics of heart rate variability (HRV) were analyzed on these patients in three recumbent postures: namely, the supine, right lateral decubitus, and left lateral decubitus postures. The lower the normalized high-frequency power (nHF) in the supine or left lateral decubitus posture, the higher the increase in the nHF when the posture was changed from supine or left lateral decubitus to right lateral decubitus in both groups of patients. Right lateral decubitus posture can lead to the highest vagal modulation and the lowest sympathetic modulation among the three recumbent postures in both normal and patients with CAD. Therefore, the right lateral decubitus posture can be used as an effective physiologic vagal enhancer in patients with CAD.

  • In this study, visible and near infrared channels of NOAA/AVHRR data were used to classify land use and vegetation types over Korean peninsula. Analyzing forest stand structures and prediction of forest productivity using satellite data were also reviewed. Land use and land cover classification was made by unsupervised clustering methods. After monthly Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) composite images were derived from April to November 1998, the derived composite images were used as temporal feature vector's in this clustering analysis. Visually interpreted, the classification result was satisfactory in overall for it matched well with the general land cover patterns. But subclassification of forests into coniferous, deciduous, and mixed forests were much confused due to the effects of low ground resolution of AVHRR data and without defined classification scheme. To investigate into the forest stand structures, digital forest type maps were used as an ancillary data. Forest type maps, which were compiled and digitalized by Forestry Research Institute, were registered to AVHRR image coordinates. Two data sets were compared and percent forest cover over whole region was estimated by multiple regression analysis. Using this method, other forest stand structure characteristics within the primary data pixels are expected to be extracted and estimated.

  • Multi-criteria ABC inventory classification is one of the most widely employed techniques for efficient inventory control, and it considers more than one criterion for categorizing inventory items into groups of different importance. Recently, Ramanathan (2006) proposed a weighted linear optimization (WLO) model for the problem of multi-criteria ABC inventory classification. The WLO model generates a set of criteria weights for each item and assigns a normalized score to each item for ABC analysis. Although the WLO model is considered to have many advantages, it has a limitation that many items can share the same optimal efficiency score. This limitation can hinder a precise classification of inventory items. To overcome this deficiency, we propose a context-dependent DEA based method for multi-criteria ABC inventory classification problems. In the proposed model, items are first stratified into several efficiency levels, and then the relative attractiveness of each item is measured with respect to less efficient ones. Based on this attractiveness measure, items can be further discriminated in terms of their importance. By a comparative study between the proposed model and the WLO model, we argue that the proposed model can provide a more reasonable and accurate classification of inventory items.

  • Recently in Korea, a marine ranching project has continued to grow with the increasing needs of sea development. Management techniques, including settlement reduction and scour protection, have been required for constructing and maintaining the artificial reefs of this marine ranching project. The generation of settlement and scour can be influenced by ground characteristics. In this study, various laboratory tests (penetration test, two-dimensional water tank test) were performed to determine the settlement and scour characteristics of artificial reefs under various ground conditions. Three kinds of ground reinforcement were prepared: unreinforced, geogrid, and hybrid bamboo mat. Penetration test results showed that the normalized settlement ratio of ground reinforced with a hybrid bamboo mat was smaller than those of unreinforced ground and geogrid-reinforced ground. Two-dimensional water tank test results showed that the scour characteristics of ground reinforced with a geogrid were more reduced and stable than unreinforced ground. The amount of scour and ground settlement also decreased with increasing reinforced area.
