Among the various types of congenital meniscal anomalies, the double-layered lateral meniscus is extremely rare. The double-layered meniscus consists of both the upper additional and the lower normal meniscus. As the upper additional meniscus is mobile, it can be easily displaced, while the lower lateral meniscus is usually normal in shape and volume. A 42-year-old woman suffering from pain and locking of her left knee underwent Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination and an arthroscopic surgery. A rare meniscal abnormality was seen in her left knee, which presented as a double-layered lateral meniscus with displacement. It was remarkable that the upper additional meniscus was displaced over the intercondylar eminence of the tibia and it mimicked a bucket-handle tear. Even though it is rare, it is necessary to consider the possibility of displaced double-layered meniscus in the differential diagnosis of a bucket-handle tear. Here, we report the MRI and arthroscopic findings of a displaced double-layered lateral meniscus, which was similar to the bucket-handle tear.
Background and Purpose: The association between the low emotional regulation and the brain structural change of major depressive disorder (MDD) has been proposed, but the voxel-based morphometry (VBM) studies on female MDD are rare. The purpose of the present study was to show the regional volume changes of gray matter (GM) in female patients with MDD by optimized VBM. Methods: To control subjects homogeneity, twenty female MDD patients and age, sex matched 21 normal controls were included for the VBM analysis. To identify the change of regional gray matter volume (GMV), the optimized VBM was performed with T1 MRIs. The amounts of gray/white matter and intracranial cavity volumes (ICV) were measured. The analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and partial correlation analyses covariate with age and ICV were applied for VBM. Results: The age and ICV distributions were similar between the two groups. In the ANCOVA, the total GMV of MDD was smaller than that of normal controls. In the VBM, regional GMV was relatively decreased in the limbic system (amygdalae, ambient gyri, hippocampi heads, subiculum, posterior parahippocampal gyri, pulvinar nuclei, dorsal posterior cingulate gyri, and left pregenual cingulate gyrus). The lingual gyri, short insular gyri, right fusiform gyrus, and right inferior frontal gyrus were also showed decreased regional GMV. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the female MDD is mainly associated with the structural deficits of the limbic system and limbic system related cortices, which were known to the center of emotions.
This study was undertaken to examine the differences between normal vocal technique and abnormal vocal technique because of diseases in respiratory system(emphysema). The breath control for vocalizing with diaphragmatic respiration must be sustained clearly. But if there is an abnormality in lung(emphysema), it is not sustained to hold diaphragmatic respiration when we sing. In order to examine the differences of the width in diaphragmatic respiration among professional singer's case, non professional case and the case of respiratory disturbance, Shimadzu X-ray remote control TV system was used. The results obtained were summerized as follows: When we vocalize, breath control is very important not only to sustain a resonance but also to form focus for being scattered to cranial resonance. We must know the differences between normal and abnormal diaphrogmatic respiration in order to teach vocal technique right. professional singer's vocal technique with Piaphragmatic respiration was better than that compared with non professional case and respiratory disturbance. Non professional case was very similar to the case of respiratory disturvance in diaphragmatic respiration until 10 sec. after full inhalation, but diaphragmatic respiration in the case of 20 sec. after full inhalation was very different.
Honeycomb panel has a constructive advantage because it is constructed with a honeycomb core, so it has relatively higher strength ratio to weight. Therefore honeycomb panel has been used as the light weight panels in the high-speed railway technology and high-speed ship like as cruise yachts. Also it has been used in the aircraft and aerospace industry as a structural panel because light weight structure is indispensible in that field of industry. Recently, the honeycomb panel is embossed in the viewpoints of high oil prices as the lightweight panel of the transport machine, however the sound insulation capacity of the honeycomb panel is poorer than those of uniform and another sandwich panels. In this paper a method to improving the sound absorption coefficient of a honeycomb panel Is studied by using the Helmholtz resonator. The sound absorption coefficients for some kinds of honeycomb cores are demonstrated by the normal incident absorption coefficient method.
The experimental results of visual stimulation with the tailored RF pulse are reported. Tailored RF pulse is used for the susceptibility effect imaging. Around 25% signal change of visual cortex area is detected during photic stimulation. Interestingly, with the tailored RF pulse, the signal intensity of visual cortex is deceased during photic stimulation. It is, however, increased with normal $T_2$ weighted imaging. The comparison between normal $T_2$ weighted imaging and the tailored RF pulse imaging are performed with 4T NMR system and the results with human volunteer are also presented.
Using wind tunnel, experimental approaches were employed to investigate fluidelastic instability of tube bundles, subjected to uniform cross flow. There are several flow-induced vibration excitation mechanisms, such as fluidelastic instability, periodic wake shedding resonance, turbulence-induced excitation and acoustic resonance, which could cause excessive vibration in shell-and tube heat exchanges. Fluidelastic is the most important vibration excitation mechanism for heat exchanger tube bundles subjected to cross flow. The system comprised of cantilevered flexible cylinder(s) and rigid cylinders of normal square array, In order to see the characteristics of flow in tube bundles, particle image velocimetry was used. From a practical design point of view, Fluidelastic instability may be expressed simply in terms of dimensionless flow velocity and dimensionless mass-damping. The threshold flow velocity for dynamic instability of cylinder rows is evaluated and the data for design guideline is proposed for the tube bundles of normal square array.
This report presents a rare case where a displaced temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc was reduced to its normal position after orthognathic surgery, and long-term magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) follow-up visualized these postoperative changes. A 22-year-old male patient presented for facial asymmetry. He also complained of pain in the right TMJ area, and MRI showed disc displacements in both TMJs. After orthognathic surgery for facial asymmetry correction, the TMJ was re-evaluated. The symptom had resolved and the disc was positioned within the normal range during mouth opening. However, 6 and a half years after surgery, he complained of recurrent pain in the right joint, and MRI revealed medial disc displacement in the right TMJ. In conclusion, the influence of orthognathic surgery on the disc position might continue for a long time until the TMJ adapts to the new position. Careful and long-term follow-up is suggested to assess the TMJ complex.
