In this paper, the important novelty and the defining a physical phenomenon of the resent research is the development of nonlocal stress and strain parameters on the porous sandwich beam with functionally graded materials in the top and bottom face sheets. Also, various beam models including Euler-Bernoulli, Reddy and the generalized formulation of two-variable beam theories are obtained in this research. According to a nonlocal strain elasticity theory, the strain at a reference point in the body is dependent not only on the stress state at that point, but also on the stress state at all of the points throughout the body. Thus, the nonlocal stress-strain elasticity theory is defined that can be actual at micro/nano scales. It can be seen that the critical buckling load and transverse deflection of sandwich beam by considering both nonlocal stress-strain parameters is higher than the nonlocal stress parameter. On the other hands, it is noted that by considering the nonlocal stress-strain parameters simultaneously becomes the actual case.
In this paper, the problem of static bending of axially functionally graded (AFG) nanobeam is formulated with the local stress(Lσ)- and strain-driven(εD) two-phase local/nonlocal integral models (TPNIMs). The novelty of the present study aims to compare the size-effects of nonlocal integral models on bending deflections of AFG Euler-Bernoulli nano-beams. The integral relation between strain and nonlocal stress components based on two types nonlocal integral models is transformed unitedly and equivalently into differential form with constitutive boundary conditions. Purely LσD- and εD-NIMs would lead to ill-posed mathematical formulation, and Purely εD- and LσD-nonlocal differential models (NDM) may result in inconsistent size-dependent bending responses. The general differential quadrature method is applied to obtain the numerical results for bending deflection and moment of AFG nanobeam subjected to different boundary and loading conditions. The influence of AFG index, nonlocal models, and nonlocal parameters on the bending deflections of AFG Euler-Bernoulli nanobeams is investigated numerically. A consistent softening effects can be obtained for both LσD- and εD-TPNIMs. The results from current work may provide useful guidelines for designing and optimizing AFG Euler-Bernoulli beam based nano instruments.
This article presented a nanoscale modified continuum model to investigate the free vibration of functionally graded (FG) porous nanobeam by using finite element method. The main novelty of this manuscript is presenting effects of four different porosity models on vibration behaviors of nonlocal nanobeam structure including size effect, that not be discussed before The proposed porosity models are, uniform porosity distribution, symmetric with mid-plane, bottom surface distribution and top surface distribution. The nano-scale effect is included in modified model by using the differential nonlocal continuum theory of Eringen that adding the length scale into the constitutive equations as a material parameter constant. The graded material is distributed through the beam thickness by a generalized power law function. The beam is simply supported, and it is assumed to be thin. Therefore, the kinematic assumptions of Euler-Bernoulli beam theory are held. The mathematical model is solved numerically using the finite element method. Results demonstrate effects of porosity type, material gradation, and nanoscale parameters on the free vibration of nanobeam. The proposed model is effective in vibration analysis of NEMS structure manufactured by porous functionally graded materials.
This paper analyzes nonlinear free vibration of the circular nano-tubes made of functionally graded materials in the framework of nonlocal strain gradient theory in conjunction with a refined higher order shear deformation beam model. The effective material properties of the tube related to the change of temperature are assumed to vary along the radius of tube based on the power law. The refined beam model is introduced which not only contains transverse shear deformation but also satisfies the stress boundary conditions where shear stress cancels each other out on the inner and outer surfaces. Moreover, it can degenerate the Euler beam model, the Timoshenko beam model and the Reddy beam model. By incorporating this model with Hamilton's principle, the nonlinear vibration equations are established. The equations, including a material length scale parameter as well as a nonlocal parameter, can describe the size-dependent in linear and nonlinear vibration of FGM nanotubes. Analytical solution is obtained by using a two-steps perturbation method. Several comparisons are performed to validate the present analysis. Eventually, the effects of various physical parameters on nonlinear and linear natural frequencies of FGM nanotubes are analyzed, such as inner radius, temperature, nonlocal parameter, strain gradient parameter, scale parameter ratio, slenderness ratio, volume indexes, different beam models.
This work presents a new nonlocal hyperbolic shear deformation beam theory for the static, buckling and vibration of nanoscale-beams embedded in an elastic medium. The present model is able to capture both the nonlocal parameter and the shear deformation effect without employing shear correction factor. The nonlocal parameter accounts for the small size effects when dealing with nanosize structures such as nanobeams. Based on the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen, the equations of motion of the nanoscale-beam are obtained using Hamilton's principle. The effect of the surrounding elastic medium on the deflections, critical buckling loads and frequencies of the nanobeam is investigated. Both Winkler-type and Pasternak-type foundation models are used to simulate the interaction of the nanobeam with the surrounding elastic medium. Analytical solutions are presented for a simply supported nanoscale-beam, and the obtained results compare well with those predicted by the other nonlocal theories available in literature.
In this paper, free vibration characteristics of functionally graded (FG) nanobeams embedded on elastic medium are investigated based on third order shear deformation (Reddy) beam theory by presenting a Navier type solution for the first time. The material properties of FG nanobeam are assumed to vary gradually along the thickness and are estimated through the power-law and Mori-Tanaka models. A two parameters elastic foundation including the linear Winkler springs along with the Pasternak shear layer is in contact with beam. The small scale effect is taken into consideration based on nonlocal elasticity theory of Eringen. The nonlocal equations of motion are derived based on third order shear deformation beam theory through Hamilton's principle and they are solved applying analytical solution. According to the numerical results, it is revealed that the proposed modeling can provide accurate frequency results of the FG nanobeams as compared to some cases in the literature. The obtained results are presented for the vibration analysis of the FG nanobeams such as the influences of foundation parameters, gradient index, nonlocal parameter and slenderness ratio in detail.
In the realm of nanotechnology, the nonlocal strain gradient theory takes center stage as it scrutinizes the behavior of spinning cantilever nanobeams and nanotubes, pivotal components supporting various mechanical movements in sport structures. The dynamics of these structures have sparked debates within the scientific community, with some contending that nonlocal cantilever models fail to predict dynamic softening, while others propose that they can indeed exhibit stiffness softening characteristics. To address these disparities, this paper investigates the dynamic response of a nonlocal cantilever cylindrical beam under the influence of external discontinuous dynamic loads. The study employs four distinct models: the Euler-Bernoulli beam model, Timoshenko beam model, higher-order beam model, and a novel higher-order tube model. These models account for the effects of functionally graded materials (FGMs) in the radial tube direction, giving rise to nanotubes with varying properties. The Hamilton principle is employed to formulate the governing differential equations and precise boundary conditions. These equations are subsequently solved using the generalized differential quadrature element technique (GDQEM). This research not only advances our understanding of the dynamic behavior of nanotubes but also reveals the intriguing phenomena of both hardening and softening in the nonlocal parameter within cantilever nanostructures. Moreover, the findings hold promise for practical applications, including drug delivery, where the controlled vibrations of nanotubes can enhance the precision and efficiency of medication transport within the human body. By exploring the multifaceted characteristics of nanotubes, this study not only contributes to the design and manufacturing of rotating nanostructures but also offers insights into their potential role in revolutionizing drug delivery systems.

In this study, the mechanical bending behaviors of functionally graded porous nanobeams are investigated. Four types of porosity which are, the classical power porosity function, the symmetric with mid-plane cosine function, bottom surface distribution and top surface distribution are proposed in analysis of nanobeam for the first time. A comparison between four types of porosity are illustrated. The effect of nano-scale is described by the differential nonlocal continuum theory of Eringen by adding the length scale into the constitutive equations as a material parameter comprising information about nanoscopic forces and its interactions. The graded material is designated by a power function through the thickness of nanobeam. The beam is simply-supported and is assumed to be thin, and hence, the kinematic assumptions of Euler-Bernoulli beam theory are held. The mathematical model is solved numerically using the finite element method. Numerical results show effects of porosity type, material graduation, and nanoscale parameters on the static deflection of nanobeam.
In this paper, buckling characteristics of nonhomogeneous functionally graded (FG) nanobeams embedded on elastic foundations are investigated based on third order shear deformation (Reddy) without using shear correction factors. Third-order shear deformation beam theory accounts for shear deformation effects by a parabolic variation of all displacements through the thickness, and verifies the stress-free boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the FG nanobeam. A two parameters elastic foundation including the linear Winkler springs along with the Pasternak shear layer is in contact with beam in deformation, which acts in tension as well as in compression. The material properties of FG nanobeam are supposed to vary gradually along the thickness and are estimated through the power-law and Mori-Tanaka models. The small scale effect is taken into consideration based on nonlocal elasticity theory of Eringen. Nonlocal equations of motion are derived through Hamilton's principle and they are solved applying analytical solution. Comparison between results of the present work and those available in literature shows the accuracy of this method. The obtained results are presented for the buckling analysis of the FG nanobeams such as the effects of foundation parameters, gradient index, nonlocal parameter and slenderness ratio in detail.
In this paper, unified nonlocal shear deformation theory is proposed to study bending, buckling and free vibration of nanobeams. This theory is based on the assumption that the in-plane and transverse displacements consist of bending and shear components in which the bending components do not contribute toward shear forces and, likewise, the shear components do not contribute toward bending moments. In addition, this present model is capable of capturing both small scale effect and transverse shear deformation effects of nanobeams, and does not require shear correction factors. The equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's principle. Analytical solutions for the deflection, buckling load, and natural frequency are presented for a simply supported nanobeam, and the obtained results are compared with those predicted by the nonlocal Timoshenko beam theory and Reddy beam theories.
