This paper presents the exact solutions and closed forms for of nonlinear stability and vibration behaviors of straight and curved beams with nonlinear viscoelastic boundary conditions, for the first time. The mathematical formulations of the beam are expressed based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory with the von Karman nonlinearity to include the mid-plane stretching. The classical boundary conditions are replaced by nonlinear viscoelastic boundary conditions on both sides, that are presented by three elements (i.e., linear spring, nonlinear spring, and nonlinear damper). The nonlinear integro-differential equation of buckling problem subjected to nonlinear nonhomogeneous boundary conditions is derived and exactly solved to compute nonlinear static response and critical buckling load. The vibration problem is converted to nonlinear eigenvalue problem and solved analytically to calculate the natural frequencies and to predict the corresponding mode shapes. Parametric studies are carried out to depict the effects of nonlinear boundary conditions and amplitude of initial curvature on nonlinear static response and vibration behaviors of curved beam. Numerical results show that the nonlinear boundary conditions have significant effects on the critical buckling load, nonlinear buckling response and natural frequencies of the curved beam. The proposed model can be exploited in analysis of macrosystem (airfoil, flappers and wings) and microsystem (MEMS, nanosensor and nanoactuators).
In this paper, we considered the Dirichlet initial boundary value problem of a nonlinear viscoelastic wave equation with nonlinear damping and source terms, and investigated finite time blow-up phenomena of the solutions to the equation with arbitrary positive initial data, under suitable conditions.
In this paper, geometrically nonlinear free vibration analysis of Mindlin viscoelastic plates with various geometrical and material properties is studied based on the Von-Karman assumptions. A novel solution is proposed in which the nonlinear frequencies of time-dependent plates are predicted according to the nonlinear frequencies of plates not dependent on time. This method greatly reduces the cost of calculations. The viscoelastic properties obey the Boltzmann integral law with constant bulk modulus. The SHPC meshfree method is employed for spatial discretization. The Laplace transformation is used to convert equations from the time domain to the Laplace domain and vice versa. Solving the nonlinear complex eigenvalue problem in the Laplace-Carson domain numerically, the nonlinear frequencies, the nonlinear viscous damping frequencies, and the nonlinear damping ratios are verified and calculated for rectangular, skew, trapezoidal and circular plates with different boundary conditions and different material properties.
In practical engineering such as aerial refueling pipes, the boundary of the fluid-conveying pipe is difficult to be completely immovable. Pipes under movable and immovable boundaries are controlled by different dominant nonlinear factors, where the boundary mobility will affect the nonlinear dynamic characteristics, which should be focused on for adopting different strategies for vibration suppression and control. The nonlinear dynamic instability characteristics of functionally graded fluid-conveying pipes lying on a viscoelastic foundation under movable and immovable boundary conditions are systematically studied for the first time. Nonlinear factors involving nonlinear inertia and nonlinear curvature for pipes with a movable boundary as well as tensile hardening and nonlinear curvature for pipes with an immovable boundary are comprehensively considered during the derivation of the governing equations of the principal parametric resonance. The stability boundary and amplitude-frequency bifurcation diagrams are obtained by employing the two-step perturbation- incremental harmonic balance method (TSP-IHBM). Results show that the movability of the boundary of the pipe has a great influence on the vibration amplitude, bifurcation topology, and the physical meanings of the stability boundary due to different dominant nonlinear factors. This research has guidance significance for nonlinear dynamic design of fluid-conveying pipe with avoiding in the instability regions.
In this research, the nonlinear static, buckling and vibration analysis of viscoelastic micro-composite beam reinforced by various distributions of boron nitrid nanotube (BNNT) with initial geometrical imperfection by modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) using finite element method (FEM) are presented. The various distributions of BNNT are considered as UD, FG-V and FG-X and also, the extended rule of mixture is used to estimate the properties of micro-composite beam. The components of stress are dependent to mechanical, electrical and thermal terms and calculated using piezoelasticity theory. Then, the kinematic equations of micro-composite beam using the displacement fields are obtained. The governing equations of motion are derived using energy method and Hamilton's principle based on MSGT. Then, using FEM, these equations are solved. Finally the effects of different parameters such as initial geometrical imperfection, various distributions of nanotube, damping coefficient, piezoelectric constant, slenderness ratio, Winkler spring constant, Pasternak shear constant, various boundary conditions and three material length scale parameters on the behavior of nonlinear static, buckling and vibration of micro-composite beam are investigated. The results indicate that with an increase in the geometrical imperfection parameter, the stiffness of micro-composite beam increases and thus the non-dimensional nonlinear frequency of the micro structure reduces gradually.
Effects of viscoelastic foundation on vibration of curved-beam structure with clamped and simply-supported boundary conditions is investigated in this study. In doing so, a micro-scale laminate composite beam with two piezoelectric face layer with a carbon nanotube reinforces composite core is considered. The whole beam structure is laid on a viscoelastic substrate which normally occurred in actual conditions. Due to small scale of the structure non-classical elasticity theory provided more accurate results. Therefore, nonlocal strain gradient theory is employed here to capture both nano-scale effects on carbon nanotubes and microscale effects because of overall scale of the structure. Equivalent homogenous properties of the composite core is obtained using Halpin-Tsai equation. The equations of motion is derived considering energy terms of the beam and variational principle in minimizing total energy. The boundary condition is assumed to be clamped at one end and simply supported at the other end. Due to nonlinear terms in the equations of motion, semi-analytical method of general differential quadrature method is engaged to solve the equations. In addition, due to complexity in developing and solving equations of motion of arches, an artificial neural network is design and implemented to capture effects of different parameters on the inplane vibration of sandwich arches. At the end, effects of several parameters including nonlocal and gradient parameters, geometrical aspect ratios and substrate constants of the structure on the natural frequency and amplitude is derived. It is observed that increasing nonlocal and gradient parameters have contradictory effects of the amplitude and frequency of vibration of the laminate beam.
The current article deals with the dynamic stability, and structural improvement of vibrating electrically curved screen on the viscoelastic substrate. By considering optimum value for radius curvature of the electrically curved screen, the structure improvement of the system occurs. For modeling the electrically system, the Maxwell's' equation is developed. Hertz contact model in employed to obtain contact forces between impactor and structure. Moreover, variational methods and nonlinear von Kármán model are used to derive boundary conditions (BCs) and nonlinear governing equations of the vibrating electrically curved screen. Galerkin and Multiple scales solution approach are coupled to solve the nonlinear set of governing equations of the vibrating electrically curved screen. Along with the analytical solution, 3D finite element simulation via ABAQUS package is provided with the aid of a FE package for simulating the current system's response. The results are categorized in 3 different sections. First, effects of geometrical and material parameters on the vibrational performance and stability of the curves panel. Second, physical properties of the impactor are taken in to account and their effect on the absorbed energy and velocity profile of the impactor are presented. Finally, effect of the radius and initial velocity on the mode shapes of the current structure is demonstrated.
This paper studies the dynamic foundation-soil-foundation interaction for two square rigid foundations embedded in a viscoelastic soil layer. The vibrations come from only one rigid foundation placed in the soil layer and subjected to harmonic loads of translation, rocking, and torsion. The required dynamic response of rigid surface foundations constitutes the solution of the wave equations obtained by taking account of the conditions of interaction. The solution is formulated using the frequency domain Boundary Element Method (BEM) in conjunction with the Kausel-Peek Green's function for a layered stratum, with the aid of the Thin Layer Method (TLM), to study the dynamic interaction between adjacent foundations. This approach allows the establishment of a mathematical model that enables us to determine the dynamic displacements amplitude of adjacent foundations according to their different separations, the depth of the substratum, foundations masss, foundations embedded, and the frequencies of excitation. This paper attempts to introduce an approach based on a polynomial mathematical tool conducted from several results of numerical methods (BEM-TLM) so that practicing civil engineers can evaluation the dynamic foundations displacements more easy.
In current study, surface/interface effects for pull-in voltage and viscous fluid velocity effects on dimensionless natural frequency (DNF) of fluid-conveying piezoelectric nanosensor (FCPENS) subjected to direct electrostatic voltage DC with nonlinear excitation, harmonic force and also viscoelastic foundation (visco-pasternak medium and structural damping) are investigated using Gurtin-Murdoch surface/interface (GMSIT) theory. For this analysis, Hamilton's principles, the assumed mode method combined with Lagrange-Euler's are used for the governing equations and boundary conditions. The effects of surface/interface parameters of FCPENS such as Lame's constants (λI,S, μI,S), residual stress (τ0I,S), piezoelectric constants (e31psk,e32psk) and mass density (ρI,S) are considered for analysis of dimensionless natural frequency respect to viscous fluid velocity u̅f and pull-in voltage V̅DC.
The main goal of this research is to examine the in-plane and out-of-plane forced vibration of a curved nanocomposite microbeam. The in-plane and out-of-plane displacements of the structure are considered based on the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The curved microbeam is reinforced by functionally graded carbon nanotubes (FG-CNTs) and thus the extended rule of mixture is employed to estimate the effective material properties of the structure. Also, the small scale effect is captured using the strain gradient theory. The structure is rested on a nonlinear orthotropic viscoelastic foundation and is subjected to concentrated transverse harmonic external force, thermal and magnetic loads. The derivation of the governing equations is performed using energy method and Hamilton's principle. Differential quadrature (DQ) method along with integral quadrature (IQ) and Newmark methods are employed to solve the problem. The effect of various parameters such as volume fraction and distribution type of CNTs, boundary conditions, elastic foundation, temperature changes, material length scale parameters, magnetic field, central angle and width to thickness ratio are studied on the frequency and force responses of the structure. The results indicate that the highest frequency and lowest vibration amplitude belongs to FGX distribution type while the inverse condition is observed for FGO distribution type. In addition, the hardening-type response of the structure with FGX distribution type is more intense with respect to the other distribution types.
