  • The objective of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of rotating orthotropic axes model in analyzing reinforced concrete planar members under cyclic as well as monotonic loading. The structural members to be addressed are moderately reinforced beams, columns, beam-column joints, and shear walls, whose failure occurs due to compressive crushing after extensive crack propagation, The rotating orthotropic axes model which is usually used for monotonic loading is developed for cyclic loading. With the existing cyclic material models of reinforcing steel and bond-slip, this material model is used for the finite element analysis. For monotonic loading, the analytical results of the rotating orthotropic axes model are compared with reinforced concrete beams which have brittle failure. For Shear wall members under cyclic loading, the analyses are compared with the experiments for the ultimate load capacity, nonlinear deformation, and pinching effect due to crack opening and closing.

  • This paper presents an analytical model on nonlinear hysteretic behavior of hybrid steel beam with reinforced concrete ends. The modeling method and appropriate coefficients with IDARC2D were proposed from the comparison with previous test results. Since the polygonal model of IDARC2D nay overestimate, new analytical model with the initial stiffness reduction coefficient was proposed. The hysteretic coefficients for the analysis of the hybrid steel beam with reinforced concrete ends were also presented. The analytical results were compared with previous experiments. The initial stiffness and the strength were predicted with less than 5% error and 10% error, respectively.

  • Camera calibration in machine vision is the process of determining the intrinsic cameara parameters and the three-dimensional (3D) position and orientation of the camera frame relative to a certain world coordinate system. On the other hand, Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy system is a very popular fuzzy system and approximates any nonlinear function to arbitrary accuracy with only a small number of fuzzy rules. It demonstrates not only nonlinear behavior but also transparent structure. In this paper, we present a novel and simple technique for camera calibration for machine vision using TSK fuzzy model. The proposed method divides the world into some regions according to camera view and uses the clustered 3D geometric knowledge. TSK fuzzy system is employed to estimate the camera parameters by combining partial information into complete 3D information. The experiments are performed to verify the proposed camera calibration.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel approach to estimating the real-time moving trajectory of an object is proposed in this paper. The object's position is obtained from the image data of a CCD camera, while a state estimator predicts the linear and angular velocities of the moving object. To overcome the uncertainties and noises residing in the input data, a Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) and neural networks are utilized cooperatively. Since the EKF needs to approximate a nonlinear system into a linear model in order to estimate the states, there still exist errors as well as uncertainties. To resolve this problem, in this approach the Kohonen networks, which have a high adaptability to the memory of the input-output relationship, are utilized for the nonlinear region. In addition to this, the Kohonen network, as a sort of neural network, can effectively adapt to the dynamic variations and become robust against noises. This approach is derived from the observation that the Kohonen network is a type of self-organized map and is spatially oriented, which makes it suitable for determining the trajectories of moving objects. The superiority of the proposed algorithm compared with the EKF is demonstrated through real experiments.

  • In this paper, we propose fault diagnosis of induction motor based on PCA and MLP. To resolve the main drawback of MLP, we calculate the reduced features by PCA in advance. Finally, we develop the diagnosis system based on nonlinear classifier by MLP rather than linear classifier by conventional k-NN. By various experiments, we obtained better classification performance in comparison to the results produced by linear classifier by k-NN.

  • The results of an experimental and analytical study of composite pressure hull on buckling pressure are presented for URN 300. We predicted the buckling and post buckling analysis of composite laminated cylindrical shell and panel under external compression by using ABAQUS/Standard[Ver 6.4]. To obtain nonlinear static equilibrium solutions for unstable problems, where the load-displacement response can exhibit the type of nonlinear buckling behavior, during periods of the response, the load and/or the displacement may decrease as the solution evolves, used the modified Riks method. Experiments were conducted to verify the validation of present analysis for cross-ply laminated shells. The shells considered in the study have four different lamination patterns, [${\pm}{\Theta}$/0/90]$_{14s}$,[${\pm}{\Theta}_{14}$/$0_{14}$/$90_{14}$],[${\pm}$45/0/90]$_{18s}$ and [/0/90]$_{18s}$. At the result of this study, the optimized ply orientation angle is $75^{\circ}$. The critical load from experiment is 69% of that of numerical analysis, because the fracture of matrix was generated before buckling. So URN 300 is not proper to use at the condition under high external pressure.

  • This paper presents a finite element (FE) analysis of the torsional rigidity of a two-stage cycloid drive. The cycloid disk makes contact with a number of pin-rollers simultaneously and eccentric shafts transmit not only torque of the spur gear stage to the cycloid disk, but also that of the cycloid disk to the output disk. Contacts between the disk and pin-rollers are simplified as linear spring elements, and the bearing of eccentric shaft is modeled as a rigid ring that has frictional contact to the disk and an elastic support. FE analysis for an ideal solid cycloid drive was performed and verified by a theoretical calculation. Accurate contact forces were then estimated by iterating between FE analysis for contact forces and Hertz theory calculations for nonlinear contact stiffness. In addition, torsional rigidity of the cycloid drive is analyzed to show that the bearing and nonlinear Hertz contact theory should be considered in analysis and design of a cycloid drive, which was verified with experiments. Finally, the effects of contact stiffness, bearing stiffness and cycloid disk structural stiffness according to the cycloid disk rotation on the torsional rigidity were investigated.

  • By using an adaptive threshold and weight based on the wavelet transform and Haar transform, a novel image enhancement algorithm is proposed. First, a medical image was decomposed with wavelet transform and all high-frequency sub-images were decomposed with Haar transform. Secondly, noise in the frequency domain was reduced by the proposed soft-threshold method. Thirdly, high-frequency coefficients were enhanced by the proposed weight values in different sub-images. Then, the enhanced image was obtained through the inverse Haar transform and wavelet transform. But the pixel range of the enhanced image is narrower than a normal image. Lastly, the image's histogram was stretched by nonlinear histogram equalization. Experiments showed that the proposed method can be not only enhance an image's details but can also preserve its edge features effectively.

  • According to ow previous study, we confirmed That the Petrov-Galerkin natural element method(PG-NEM) completely resolves the numerical integration inaccuracy in the conventional Bubnov-Galerkin natural element method(BG-NEM). This paper is an extension of PG-NEM to two-dimensional geometrically nonlinear problem. For the analysis, a linearized total Lagrangian formulation is approximated with the PS-NEM. At every load step, the grid points ate updated and the shape functions are reproduced from the relocated nodal distribution. This process enables the PG-NEM to provide more accurate and robust approximations. The representative numerical experiments performed by the test Fortran program, and the numerical results confirmed that the PG-NEM effectively and accurately approximates The large deformation problem.

  • We demonstrate z-scan method as a tool for investigating the molecular orientational order in organic solution when high static electric field is applied. Experiments are performed for the solution of 0.5% (by weight) 4-dimethylamino-4'-nitrostilbene in cyclopentanone and nonlinear refractive index $n_{2}$, is measured to be $-0.905\times10^{-8}\textrm{cm}^2/MW$ at $1.064{\mu}m$. When static electric field of 3.45 KV fmm is applied, the anisotropy ratio of n, is measured to be 1.34 and the molecular orientational order parameters $
