The nonlinear aerodynamic instability of a tensioned plane orthotropic membrane structure is theoretically investigated in this paper. The interaction governing equation of wind-structure coupling is established by the Von $K\acute{a}rm\acute{a}n's$ large amplitude theory and the D'Alembert's principle. The aerodynamic force is determined by the potential flow theory of fluid mechanics and the thin airfoil theory of aerodynamics. Then the interaction governing equation is transformed into a second order nonlinear differential equation with constant coefficients by the Bubnov-Galerkin method. The critical wind velocity is obtained by judging the stability of the second order nonlinear differential equation. From the analysis of examples, we can conclude that it's of great significance to consider the orthotropy and geometrical nonlinearity to prevent the aerodynamic instability of plane membrane structures; we should comprehensively consider the effects of various factors on the design of plane membrane structures; and the formula of critical wind velocity obtained in this paper provides a more accurate theoretical solution for the aerodynamic stability of the plane membrane structures than the previous studies.

This paper analyzes the non-stationary vibration and super-harmonic resonances in nonlinear dynamic motion of viscoelastic nano-resonators. For this purpose, a new coupled size-dependent model is developed for a plate-shape nano-resonator made of nonlinear viscoelastic material based on modified coupled stress theory. The virtual work induced by viscous forces obtained in the framework of the Leaderman integral for the size-independent and size-dependent stress tensors. With incorporating the size-dependent potential energy, kinetic energy, and an external excitation force work based on Hamilton's principle, the viscous work equation is balanced. The resulting size-dependent viscoelastically coupled equations are solved using the expansion theory, Galerkin method and the fourth-order Runge-Kutta technique. The Hilbert-Huang transform is performed to examine the effects of the viscoelastic parameter and initial excitation values on the nanosystem free vibration. Furthermore, the secondary resonance due to the super-harmonic motions are examined in the form of frequency response, force response, Poincare map, phase portrait and fast Fourier transforms. The results show that the vibration of viscoelastic nanosystem is non-stationary at higher excitation values unlike the elastic ones. In addition, ignoring the small-size effects shifts the secondary resonance, significantly.
The aerodynamic stability of orthotropic tensioned membrane structures with rectangular plane is theoretically studied under the uniform ideal potential flow. The aerodynamic force acting on the membrane surface is determined by the potential flow theory in fluid mechanics and the thin airfoil theory in aerodynamics. Then, based on the large amplitude theory and the D'Alembert's principle, the interaction governing equation of wind-structure is established. Under the circumstances of single mode response, the Bubnov-Galerkin approximate method is applied to transform the complicated interaction equation into a system of second order nonlinear differential equation with constant coefficients. Through judging the stability of the system characteristic equation, the critical divergence instability wind velocity is determined. Finally, from different parametric analysis, we can conclude that it has positive significance to consider the characteristics of orthotropic and large amplitude for preventing the instability destruction of structures.
The paper is devoted to the stability analysis of a simply supported five layer sandwich beam. The beam consists of five layers: two metal faces, the metal foam core and two binding layers between faces and the core. The main goal is to elaborate a mathematical and numerical model of this beam. The beam is subjected to an axial compression. The nonlinear hypothesis of deformation of the cross section of the beam is formulated. Based on the Hamilton's principle the system of four stability equations is obtained. This system is approximately solved. Applying the Bubnov-Galerkin's method gives an ordinary differential equation of motion. The equation is then numerically processed. The equilibrium paths for a static and dynamic load are derived and the influence of the binding layers is considered. The main goal of the paper is an analytical description including the influence of binding layers on stability, especially on critical load, static and dynamic paths. Analytical solutions, in particular mathematical model are verified numerically and the results are compared with those obtained in experiments.
Numerical study of the flutter of a plate on a viscoelastic foundation is carried out in the paper. Critical velocity of the flutter of a plate on an elastic and viscoelastic foundation is determined. The mathematical model for the investigation of viscoelastic plates is based on the Marguerre's theory applied to the study of the problems of strength, rigidity and stability of thin-walled structures such as aircraft wings. Aerodynamic pressure is determined in accordance with the A.A. Ilyushin's piston theory. Using the Bubnov - Galerkin method, the basic resolving systems of nonlinear integro-differential equations (IDE) are obtained. At wide ranges of geometric and physical parameters of viscoelastic plates, their influence on the flutter velocity has been studied in detail.
An investigation of the nonlinear thermal buckling behavior of a nano-sized beam constructed from intelligent materials called piezo-magnetic materials has been presented in this article. The nano-sized beam geometry has been considered based on two assumptions: an ideal straight beam and an imperfect beam. For incorporating nano-size impacts, the nano-sized beam formulation has been presented according to nonlocal elasticity. After establishing the governing equations based on classic beam theory and nonlocal elasticity, the nonlinear buckling path has been obtained via Galerkin's method together with an analytical trend. The dependency of buckling path to piezo-magnetic material composition, electro-magnetic fields and geometry imperfectness has been studied in detail.
In this paper, stability analysis of sandwich toroidal shell segments (TSSs) with carbon nanotube (CNT)-reinforced face sheets featuring various types of auxetic cores, surrounded by elastic foundations under radial pressure is presented. Two distinct types of auxetic structures are considered for the core, including re-entrant auxetic structure and graphene origami (GOri)-enabled auxetic structure. The nonlinear stability equilibrium equations of the longitudinally shallow shells are formulated using the von Karman shell theory, in conjunction with Stein and McElman approximation while considering Winkler-Pasternak's elastic foundation to simulate the interaction between the shell and elastic foundation. The Galerkin method is employed to derive the nonlinear stability responses of the shells. The numerical investigations show the influences of various types of auxetic-core layers, CNT-reinforced face sheets, as well as elastic foundation on the stability of sandwich shells.
The present research investigates the combination resonance behaviors of porous FG shallow shells reinforced with oblique stiffeners and subjected to a two-term excitation. The oblique stiffeners considered in this research reinforce the shell internally and externally. To model the stiffeners, Lekhnitskii's smeared stiffeners technique is utilized. According to the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and stress functions, a nonlinear model of the oblique stiffened shallow shell is established. With regard to the FSDT and von-Kármán nonlinear geometric assumptions, the stress-strain relationships for the present shell system are developed. Also, in order to discretize the nonlinear governing equations, the Galerkin method is implemented. To obtain the required relations for investigating the combination resonance theoretically, the method of multiple scales is applied. For verifying the results of the present research, generated results are compared with previous research. Additionally, a comparison with the P-T method is conducted to increase the validity of the generated results, as this method has illustrated advantages over other numerical methods in terms of accuracy and reliability. In this method, the piecewise constant argument is used jointly with the Taylor series expansion, which is why it is named the P-T method. The effects of stiffeners with different angles, and the effects of material parameters on the combination resonance behaviors of the present system are addressed. With the findings of this research, researchers and engineers in this field may use them as benchmarks for their design and research of porous FG shallow shells.
The Streamline Upwind Petrov-Galerkin(SUPG) finite element method is used to solve the two-dimensional laminar and turbulent flow. The flow is simulated by averaged Navier-Stokes equations with a penalty function approach and the lograithmic(k-$\varepsilon$) turbulent model is employed to take into account its turbulent behavior. The near-wall viscous sub-layer model is employed to approach the dominant viscous effects in the near wall zones. To find a good-enough initial guess of the Newton-Raphson iteration solving Nonlinear Matrix the Incremental method is considered for momentum and the Incomplete logarithmic turbu-lent equations for Turbulence. The validation of our method is investigated in comparision with published experimental data.
Initial geometrical imperfection is an important factor affecting the structural characteristics of plate and shell structures. Studying the effect of geometrical imperfection on the structural characteristics of cylindrical shell is beneficial to explore the thermal post-buckling response characteristics of cylindrical shell. Therefore, we devote to investigating the thermal post-buckling behavior of graphene platelets reinforced mental foam (GPLRMF) cylindrical shells with geometrical imperfection. The properties of GPLRMF material with considering three types of graphene platelets (GPLs) distribution patterns are introduced firstly. Subsequently, based on Donnell nonlinear shell theory, the governing equations of cylindrical shell are derived according to Eulerian-Lagrange equations. Taking into account two different boundary conditions namely simply supported (S-S) and clamped supported (C-S), the Galerkin principle is used to solve the governing equations. Finally, the impact of initial geometrical imperfections, the GPLs distribution types, the porosity distribution types, the porosity coefficient as well as the GPLs mass fraction on the thermal post-buckling response of the cylindrical shells are analyzed.
