Preparation and Oxygen Permeability of Tubular $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$ Membranes with $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Ti_{0.3}Fe_{0.7}O_{3-{\delta}}$ Porous Coating Layer (다공성의 $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Ti_{0.3}Fe_{0.7}O_{3-{\delta}}$가 코팅된 $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$ 관형 분리막의 제조 및 투과 특성)

  • Tubular $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$ membranes with $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Ti_{0.3}Fe_{0.7}O_{3-{\delta}}$ porous coating layer were prepared by extrusion and dip coating technique. XRD and SEM result showed the tubular membrane possessed the perovskite structure and porouscoating layer (thickness= about $2{\mu}m$) in surface. The oxygen permeation test was measured at condition of ambient air (feed side) and vacuum (permeate side) in the temperature range from 750 to $950^{\circ}C$. The oxygen permeation flux of $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$ tubular membrane with $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Ti_{0.3}Fe_{0.7}O_{3-{\delta}}$ porous coating layer reached maximum $3.2mL/min{\cdot}cm^2$ at $950^{\circ}C$ and was higher than non-coated $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$ tubular membrane. Long-term stability test result indicated that the oxygen permeation flux was quite stable during the 11 day.

  • This study is to develop a fuel cell system applicable to an in situ NMR (Nuclear magnetic resonance) diagnosis. The in situ NMR can be used in real time monitoring of various reactions occurring in the fuel cell, such as oxidation of fuel, reduction of oxygen, transport phenomena, and component degradation. The fuel cell for this purpose is, however, to be operated in a specifically designed tubular shape toroid cavity detector (TCD), which constrains the fuel cell to have a tubular shape. This may cause difficulties in effective mass transport of reactants/products and uniform distribution of assembly pressure. Therefore, a new flow field designed in a particular way is necessary to enhance the mass transport in the tubular fuel cell. In this study, a tubular-shaped close-type flow field made of non-magnetic material is developed. With this flow field, oxygen is effectively delivered to the cathode surface and the produced water is readily removed from the membrane-electrode assembly to prevent flooding. The resulting DMFC (direct methanol fuel cell) outperforms the open-type flow field and exhibits $36\;mW/cm^2$ even at room temperature.

Thermal field of large-diameter concrete filled steel tubular members under solar radiation

  • Concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) members have been widely used in engineering, and their tube diameters have become larger and larger. But there is no research on the thermal field of large-diameter CFST structure. These studies focused on the thermal field of the large-diameter CFST structure under solar radiation. The environmental factors and the actual placement position were considered, and the finite element model (FEM) of the thermal field of CFST members under solar radiation (SR) was established. Then the FEM was verified by practical experiments. The most unfavorable temperature gradient model in the cross-section was proposed. The testing results showed that the temperature field of the large-diameter CFST member section was non-linearly distributed due to the influence of SR. The temperature field results of CFST members with different pipe diameters indicated that the larger the core concrete diameter was, the slower the central temperature changed, and there was a significant temperature difference between the center and the boundary. Based on the numerical model, the most unfavorable temperature gradient model in the section was proposed. The model showed that the temperature difference around the center of the circle is small, and the boundary temperature difference is significant. The maximum temperature difference is 15.22℃, which appeared in the southern boundary area of the specimen. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the influence of SR on the thermal field of the member for large-diameter CFST members in actual engineering, which causes a large temperature gradient in the member.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of Concrete-Filled Tubular Column H-Beam End-Plate Connections with Penetrated HT-Bolts under monotonic load. Simple bending tests are carried out with 5 kinds of specimens including beam specimen. The parameters of these tests are the thickness (T=22, 26. 30mm) of End-plates and the diameter (M=20, 22mm) of bolts. From the tests, the increasing values of yielding strength and initial stiffness of each specimen were gained as the thickness of End-plates and diameter of bolts are increasing. And the application of Bjorhovde et al and Eurocode 3 classification method by non-dimensional moment-rotation curves to the connections showed that all of them are included in rigid region as far as initial stiffness is concerned and all of them are also rigid as far as ultimate strength.

Permeation Characteristics of the Microfiltration Tubular Module using the Discharged Rod (배출봉을 이용한 정밀여과용 관형 모듈의 투과특성)

  • The permeation experiments were carried out for the nominal pore size $0.1\;{\mu}m$ and 5 mm inner diameter microfiltration tubular membrane equipped with self-designed discharging rod in order to determine the effect of fouling reduction. Dioctyl tinoxide (DOTO) latex particle was used to prepare up to 0.5 wt% concentration of feed solution, and the experiments were operated within 1.6 bar. The permeation flux effect on the discharged rod was measured as a result of flux comparison between the cases of equipped and non-equipped discharge rod modules for every experiment. The permeation flux for the case using the discharged rod was enhanced to 20% at 1.6 bar operating pressure. The improvement on permeation flux for using the discharged rod was greater as the concentration of feed increased, and reached up to 43% under 0.5 wt% concentration of feed solution.

  • The fire resistance performance of generic CFT columns has been verified through various tests and analyses and the columns are widely used for fire resistance designs abroad. In this study, 3 groups of specimens (Non-fire protection, reinforcement with steel fiber and fire resistance paint) are suggested in order to evaluate the fire resistance performance of interior anchor type concrete-filled steel tubular columns having efficient cross-sections through loaded heating tests. Axial deformation-time relationship and in-plane temperatures are compared to evaluate the fire resistance performance of the specimens associated with variables. Suggested from the fact that the interior anchors exposed to fire exert influence on fire resistance performance due to thermal expansion, the reinforcements using steel fiber and fire resistance paint are verified to mitigate contraction and improve fire resistance performance. The result obtained from the tests of interior anchor type concrete-filled tubular columns is expected to be used for effective fire resistance design in association with previously conducted studies.

  • The goal of this paper is to understand the stress-transfer mechanism of concrete-filled tubular column to H-beam connection with external T stiffener through the elasto-plastic finite element method and to offer basic data for the design of T stiffener. For the accuracy, analysis results are compared with experimental results. It makes use of several stress and strain indices to understand the stress-transfer mechanism of connection. An alternative plan that decreases the stress concentration of beam flange to horizontal stiffener connection is proposed through the elasto-plastic finite element method.

Confining effect of concrete in double-skinned composite tubular columns

  • A double-skinned composite tubular (DSCT) column, which consists of concrete and inner and outer tubes, was finally developed to overcome the weaknesses of concrete filled tube columns by reducing the self-weight of the column and confining the concrete triaxially. Research pertaining to the stiffness and strength of the column and the confining effect in a DSCT column has been carried out. However, detailed studies on the confining stress, especially the internal confining stress in a DSCT column, have not been carried out. Internal and external confining stresses should be evaluated to determine the effective confining stress in a DSCT column. In this paper, the confining stresses of concrete before and after insertion of an inner tube were studied using finite element analysis. The relationship between the internal or external confining stresses and the theoretical confining stress was investigated by parametric studies. New modified formulae for the yield and buckling failure conditions based on the formulae suggested by former researchers were proposed. Through analytical studies, the modified formulae were verified to be effective for economic and reasonable design of the inner tubes in a DSCT column under the same confining stress.

  • Thermal cracking is commonly modeled as plug flow reaction, neglecting the lateral gradients present. In this paper, 2-dimensional computational fluid dynamics including turbulence model and molecular reaction scheme are carried out. This simulation is solved by means of coupled implicit scheme for stable convergence of solution. The reactor is modeled as an isothermal tube, whose length is 1.2 m and radius is 0.01 m, respectively. At first, The radial profile of velocity and temperature at each point are predicted in its condition. Then the bulk temperature and conversion curve along the axial direction are compared with other published data to identify the reason why discussed variations of properties are important to product yield. Finally, defining a new non-dimensional number, Effect of interaction with turbulence, heat transfer and chemical reaction are discussed for design of thermal cracking furnace.

The Anatomy and Histoarchitecture of the Olfactory Organ in the Korean Flat-Headed Goby Luciogobius guttatus (Pisces; Gobiidae)

  • The histology and anatomy of the olfactory organ in Luciogobius guttatus was investigated using a light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The paired olfactory organs in the dorsal part of the snout are situated in between the upper lip and the eyes. They consist of two nostrils, one anterior and the other posterior openings, and a single olfactory cavity. The anterior nostril, an incurrent opening, forms a short tubular structure from the skin. The posterior nostril, an excurrent opening, forms a circular structure opened to the exterior. The distributional pattern of the sensory epithelium is a continuous type. The sensory epithelium with numerous-motile cilia is made up of receptor cells, supporting cells, basal cells, and mucous cells. In contrast, the non-sensory epithelium is comprised of stratified epithelial cells and two types of mucous cells, acidic and neutral cells. The cilia number of the receptor cell is in range of 3 to 4 units. Such results in L. guttatus may reflect its ecological habit and microhabitat in the tidal zone with a periodic tide.
