  • A 2-dimensional temperature field measurement technique using PLIF (Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence) was developed and it was applied to an axisymmetric buoyant jet. Rhodamine B was used as a fluorescent dye. Laser light sheet illuminated a two-dimensional cross section of the jet. The intensity variations of LIF signal from Rhodamine B molecules scattered by the laser light were captured with an optical filter and a CCD camera. The spatial variations of temperature field of buoyant jet were derived using the calibration data between the LIF signal and real temperature. The measured results show that the turbulent jet is more efficient in mixing compared to the transition and laminar jet flows. As the initial flow condition varies from laminar to turbulent flow, the entrainment from ambient fluid increases and temperature decay along the jet center axis becomes larger. In addition to the mean temperature field, the spatial distributions of temperature fluctuations were measured by the PLIF technique and the result shows the shear layer development from the jet nozzle exit.

  • Spontaneous ignition tests of five different coals with non-iso-thermal and iso-thermal test method based on the standard test procedure of NF T20-036 were carried. These five coals included the 2 low rank coals and 3 bituminous coals. Test results showed that the ignition temperatures of all coals at the iso-thermal conditions were higher than that of non-isothermal condition, and those of low rank SM and BR coal in both nonisothermal and isothermal conditions were lower than bituminous AN and CN coals. The chemical species of coals such as oxygen and hematite also plays an important role in enhancing the ignition rate that the ignition temperature of SM coal was lowered. The heat accumulation tendency of five coals inside outdoor stack pile was monitored with emphasis on the change in the temperature of the coal depth in stack pile. In case of low rank BR coal, its temperature inside coal stack pile due to the rate of high heat accumulation and oxidation was $59^{\circ}C$ compared to $51^{\circ}C$ for other SW bituminous coal. And the heat accumulation rate inside coal stack piles was increased with increased the Cp value which it was defined as the specific heat of coal at constant pressure, whereas other factors such as thermal diffusivity and conductivity of coal relatively had less effect on heat accumulation.

  • Thermal degradation behavior of chlorine cure-site ACM and carboxylic cure-site ACM rubbers was studied by non-isothermal TGA thermal analysis. Carboxylic cure-site ACM rubber exhibited comparatively more thermally stable than chlorine cure-site ACM, showing higher peak temperature, at which maximum reaction rate occurred. Activation energies from Kissinger method were calculated as 118.6 kJ/mol for the chlorine cure-site ACM and 105.5 kJ/mol for the carboxylic cure-site ACM, showing similar values from Flynn-Wall-Ozawa analysis over the conversion range of 0.1~0.2. From the analysis of the reaction order change, both samples seemed thermally decomposed through the multiple reaction mechanism as is the common rubber materials.

  • The effect of Cu on the hydrogen reduction of $MoO_3$ powders was investigated by measuring the humidity change during a non-isothermal process of hydrogen reduction. The presence of Cu induced a shift in the reduction temperature and strongly affected the reduction processes of $MoO_3\rightarrowMo_4O_{11}\rightarrowMoO_2$, which comprised the contained chemical vapor transport of $MoO_x(OH)_2$. This study suggests that the surface of the Cu grains acts as a nucleation site for the reduction of $MoO_x(OH)_2$ to $MoO_2$ particles from $MoO_3$ or $Mo_4O_{11}$. Such an activated reduction process results in the deposition of Mo and $MoO_2$ particles on the surface of the Cu.

  • The effects of aluminum nanoparticles (AlNs) on the thermal decomposition of ammonia perchlorate (AP) were investigated by DSC, TG-DSC and DSC-TG-MS-FTIR. Addition of AlNs resulted in an increase in the temperature of the first exothermic peak of AP and a decrease in the second. The processing of non-isothermal data at various heating rates with and without AlNs was performed using Netzsch Thermokinetics. The dependence of the activation energy calculated by Friedman's isoconversional method on the conversion degree indicated the decomposition process can be divided into three steps. They were C1/D1/D1 for neat AP, determined by Multivariate Non-linear Regression, and changed to C1/D1/F2 after addition of AlNs into AP. The isothermal curves showed that the thermal stability of AP in the low temperature stage was improved in the presence of AlNs.

  • Thermal Analyses are conducted to measure various factors of a liquid fuel required for numerical analysis. Thermal Analyses are divided into two different methods of TGA (Thermo Gravimetric Analysis) and DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry). Non-isothermal experimental results are analyzed using by TGA. The results are filtered by a Freeman Carroll method. At the same time, chemical parameters of unknown liquid fuel, activation temperature and reaction order are measured to 6128.2 K and 1.4, respectively. Furthermore, the parameters can be obtained by various mathematical methods. It is found that tha parameters depend on the processing method.

  • Peach rosette mosaic virus (PRMV) is a plant virus that was first reported in 1933 by Peach. It can infect hosts including peach, grape, blueberry, dandelion, plum, cherry tree, and weeds. PRMV is non-reportable in Korea, but it is designated as a controlled virus requiring plant quarantine. In this study, for the rapid and specific detection of PRMV, we developed an assay using loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP). Comparison between conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods (real time-PCR and nested PCR) and LAMP for the detection of PRMV revealed an equivalent level of sensitivity by all the tested methods. For the LAMP assay, outer primer sets were used to amplify a 264-bp PCR product, which was then digested using the restriction enzyme Pvu II (CAG/CTG), and the visualization of two digestion fragments (207 + 57 bp) indicated a positive reaction. The developed LAMP assay for PRMV is expected to enable the rapid monitoring of PRMV in plants.

  • Thin (~650 nm) and ultrathin (~50 nm) films of neat PMMA and PMMA containing 5 wt% of methacryl-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane were prepared in this work. The effects of film thickness and POSS on glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and isothermal physical aging were investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). $T_g$ depression was observed as film thickness was decreased and Ma-POSS molecules were incorporated. Enthalpy relaxation (${\Delta}H_{Relax}$) due to the isothermal physical aging was reduced by ultra-thin film thickness and the addition of Ma-POSS. KWW (Kohlrausch-Williams-Watts) equation was used to fit ${\Delta}H_{Relax}$ vs. aging time data providing the fitting parameters; maximum enthalpy recovery (${\Delta}H_{\infty}$), relaxation time (${\tau}$) and non-exponentiality parameter (${\beta}$).

  • The behavior of the non-equilibrium grain boundary segregation of boron in low carbon steel was studied through a particle tracking autoradiography. The behavior of the non-equilibrium grain boundary segregation of boron during continuous cooling was compared with the isothermal kinetics of the non-equilibrium grain boundary segregation of boron at the holding temperature using an effective time method. On the basis of the experiments, the cooling rate dependence of the non-equilibrium segregation of boron was explained using the time dependence of the non-equilibrium segregation of boron in low carbon steel. The experimental observations for the cooling rate dependence of the grain boundary segregation of boron are in good agreement with the time dependence of the grain boundary segregation of boron. The mechanisms of the non-equilibrium segregation of boron during cooling in low carbon steel are also discussed.

  • Carbonized rice husk(char from rice husk) can be used to improve soils for planting, seedlings, horiculture, pomiculture and truck gardening. Although it is not a fertilizer in nature, it stimulates the growth of plants. Carbonized rice husk is highly recommended for raising soil/water temperature, keeping moisture and aerating roots of plants. The objective of this study was to develop the effective production method of carbonized rice husks by a non-slagging vertical cyclone combustor. A cyclone combustor w vortex collecor Pocket in addition to central collector pocket was selected and tested. Isothermal tests and mixed firing with LPG and rice husk were performed in order to characterize the system. hut rice husk was used during the isothermal test to find the mass collected of rice husk. It was impossible to ignite rice husk itself over the experimental conditions considered in this experiment. The composition of original and carbonized rice husks was analyzed by the ultimate analysis. With the air flow rate of 20 ㎥/h, LPG flow rate of 0.45 1/min, the required carbonized rice husk could be obtained.
