A direct draft measurement system was developed based on the swingle tree- the rear component of the single-animal harnessing (or yoking) system . The prototype was made from a tube, on which four strain gages were attached. The pull of the draft animal through the flexible pull chains or ropes causes the beam to bend, The bending strain is sensed by the strain gages and the bridge converts this to a voltage signal. Counterweights keep the tube correctly oriented if the angle of pull changes , while end bearing follow the variations in the angle of pull. Hence, the voltage output is proportional to the draft. the device has highly linear response, acceptable sensitivity negligible error and hysteresis. It is suitable for electronic data acquisition, non-intrusive , easy to attach and detach and is reasonably priced.
This Paper provides perceptual metrics for video quality based on properties of human visual system, and audio quality based on human audition. All metrics work without reference signals, allowing non-intrusive, in-service measurements. A simple and easy-to-learn user interface displays the metrics and saves them in popular file formats like CSV. In this paper, proposed method was able to various and corrective measurement for the multimedia service video quality. As that it was able to application to set up service guide line and the methode of measurement and system for the set up standardization of the high quality video service.
The indirect-contact ECG (IDC-ECG) was introduced by a prior study for daily non-intrusive measurements. To improve the signal quality and to extend the application area of IDC-ECG, close study of the frequency characteristics of the IDC-ECG is necessary. In this study, the frequency response of the active electrode for several sample clothes was measured under conditions of actual IDC-ECG measurement with human body. Higher gain in low frequency range than expected by prior study was observed. In addition to it, wide variation in gain according to the cloth type in the low frequency range was observed. Variation in gain caused by moisture variation in the clothes was also observed. This study shows that the parallel R-C connection is proper for electrode model and the resistive factor is influenced by moisture in the clothes. This study is the first that provides the frequency response of the electrode in the actual indirect-contact ECG measurement and it is expected that the results will be helpful to improve the indirect-contact ECG method.

In the mountain streams in Jeju Island, strong turbulence and roughness usually made it nearly impossible to utilize most of intrusive instrumentation for streamflow discharge measurements. Instead, a non-intrusive fixed electro-magnetic wave surface velocimetry (fixed EWSV: Kalesto) became alternatively popular in many representative streams to measure stream discharge seamlessly. Currently, Kalesto has shown noteworthy performance with little loss in flood discharge measurements and also has successfully provided discharge for every minute. However, Kalesto has been operated to regard its measured one-point velocity as the representative mean velocity for the given cross-section. Therefore, it could be highly possible to potentially encompass discharge measurements errors. In this study, we analyzed the difference between such Kalesto discharge measurements and other alternative concurrent discharge measurements such as Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) and mobile EWSV which were able to measure velocity in multi-points in the cross-section. Consequently, Kalesto discharge deviated from ADCP discharge in amount of 48% for relatively low flow, and more than 20% difference for high flow compared with mobile EWSV discharge measurements. These results indicated that the one-point velocity measured by Kalesto should be used as a cross-sectional mean velocity, rather it should be accounted for as an index-velocity in conjunction with directly measured cross-sectional mean velocity by using more reliable instrumentations. After inducing Kalesto Discharge Correction Coefficient (KDCC) that actually means relationship between index velocity and cross-sectional mean velocity, the corrected discharge from Kalesto was significantly improved. Therefore, we found that index velocity method should be applied to obtain better accuracy of discharge measurement in case of Kalesto operation.

A technique for measuring surface temperature field in micro scale is newly proposed, which uses temperature-sensitive fluorescent (TSF) dye coated on the surface and is easily implemented with a fluorescence microscope and a CCD camera. The TSF dye is chosen among mixtures of various chemical compositions including rhodamine B as the fluorescent dye to be most sensitive to temperature change. In order to examine the effectiveness of this temperature measurement technique, numerical analysis and experiment on transient conduction heat transfer for two different substrate materials, i. e., silicon and glass, are performed. In the experiment, to accurately measure the temperature with high resolution temperature calibration curves were obtained with very fine spatial units. The experimental results agree qualitatively well with the numerical data in the silicon and glass substrate cases so that the present temperature measurement method proves to be quite reliable. In addition, it is noteworthy that the glass substrate is more appropriate to be used as thermally-insulating locally-heating heater in micro thermal devices. This fact is identified in the temperature measuring experiment on the locally-heating heaters made on the wafer of silicon and glass substrates. Accordingly, this technique is capable of accurate and non-intrusive high-resolution measurement of temperature field in microscale.
Diode laser sensor is conducted to measure the gas temperature in the liquid-gas 2-phase counter flow flame. C$\_$10/H/ sub 22/ and city gas were used as liquid fuel and gas fuel, respectively. Two vibrational overtones of H$_2$O were selected and measurements were carried out in the spray flame region stabilized the above gaseous premixed flame. The path-averaged temperature measurement using diode laser absorption method succeeded in the liquid fuel combustion environment regardless of droplets of wide range diameter. The path-averaged temperature measured in the post flame of liquid-gas 2-phase counter flow flame showed qualitative reliable results. The successful demonstration of time series temperature measurement in the liquid-gas 2-phase counter flow flame gave us motivation of trying to establish the effective control system in practical combustion system. These results demonstrated the ability of real-time feedback from combustor inside using the non-intrusive measurement as well as the possibility of application to practical combustion system. Failure case due to influence of spray flame was also discussed.

Transient natures of diesel sprays are often characterized with spray visualization, since it is a non-intrusive and straightforward technique to be applied. However, as injection pressure is increased higher than a thousand bar in a modern direct injection diesel engine, very fine temporal and spatial resolutions in the spray visualization are required while sprays become optically denser. Discussed in this paper are macroscopic and microscopic spray visualization techniques and an example of image processing process for efficient and consistent measurement of spray parameters. The injection rate measurement method based on hydraulic pulse principle was suggested as a way of estimating injection velocity for transient diesel sprays. The spray visualization and injection rate measurement techniques were applied to analyze transient diesel sprays from a common-rail injection system and found to be practically effective.
Due to the difficulties for measuring flood discharge in the dangerous field conditions, conventional instruments with relatively low accuracy such as float still have been widely utilized for the field survey. It is also limited to use simple stage-discharge relationship for assessment of the flood discharge, since the stage-discharge relationship during the flood becomes complicated loop shape. In recent years, various non-intrusive velocity measurement techniques such as electromagnetic wave or surface images have been developed, which is quite adequate for the flood discharge measurements. However, these new non-intrusive techniques have little tested in the flood condition, though they promised efficiency and accuracy. Throughout the field observations, we evaluated the validity of these techniques by comparing discharge and velocity measurements acquired concurrently during the flood in a mountain stream. As a result, the flood discharge measurements between electromagnetic wave and surface image processing techniques showed high positive relationship, but velocities did not matched very well particularly for the high current speed more 3 m/s. Therefore, it should be noted here that special cares are required when the velocity measurements by those two different techniques are used, for instance, for the validation of the numerical models. In addition, authors assured that, for the more accurate flood discharge measurements, velocity observation as well as stage height is strongly necessary owing that the unsteady flow occurs during the flood.

The blade vibration problem of bladed disk is the most critical subject to consider since it directly affects the stable performance of the engine as well as life of the engine. Especially, due to complicated vibration pattern of the bladed disk, more effort was required for vibration analysis and test. The research of measuring the vibration of the bladed disk, using NSMS(Non-intrusive stress measurement) instead of Aeromechanics testing method requiring slip ring or telemetry system with strain gauge, was successful. These testing can report the actual stresses seen on the blades; detect synchronous resonances that are the source of high cycle fatigue (HCF) in blades; measure individual blade mis-tuning and coupled resonances in bladed disks. In order to minimize the error being created due to heat expansion, the tip timing sensor is installed parallel to the blade trailing edge, yielding optimal result. Also, when working on finite element analysis, the whole bladed disk has gone through three-dimensional analysis, evaluating the family mode. The result of the analysis matched well with the test result.
