  • The conventional calibration method for a noise figure analyzer is to use a noise source. This method is accompanied by a significant irregular ripple in the measurement results, because it does not consider the mismatch of the noise source and noise figure analyzer during calibration. A novel calibration method of the noise figure analyzer is proposed that considers the mismatch between the noise power and noise figure analyzer. A novel noise correlation matrix measurement technique using this method is also proposed. The method determines the noise correlation matrix and the gain of the uncorrected noise figure analyzer using uncorrected noise powers. Then, having determined the gain and noise correlation matrix, the effects of noise figure analyzers were corrected in the measurement results of the noise correlation matrix for the device under test (DUT). Through the proposed method, the measured noise parameters of a DUT showed the same degree of irregular ripples as the result of using the relative noise ratio.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the noise figure of cascode low noise amplifier (LNA) based on the measured data of 65nm CMOS devices. By using the channel thermal noise model of transistors, we expanded noise figure equation and divided the equation into three parts to see its contributions to noise figure. We also varied design parameters such as bias point, transistor gate width, and operating frequency. Our results show that different noise sources dominate at the different operating frequencies. One can easily find the noise transition frequency with device models in ahead of the practical design. Therefore, this research provides a low noise design approach for different operating frequencies.

  • In the paper, we confirmed improvement Noise figure of the entire RF front-end using spiral inductor with PGS(Patterned Ground Shield) and current bleeding techniques. LNA design is to achieve simultaneous noise and input matching. Spiral inductor in input circuit of LNA inserted PGS for betterment of Q-factor. we modeling inductor using EM simulator, so compared with inductor of TSMC 0.18um. We designed and simulation the optimum structure of PGS using Taguchi's method. We confirmed enhancement of noise figure at LNA after substituted for inductor with PGS. Mixer designed using current bleeding techniques for reduced noise. We designed LNA using inductor with PGS and Mixer using current bleeding techniques, so confirmed improvement of noise figure.

  • To achieve functions of doppler measurement, MTI(Moving Target Indicator), high-resolution, and others in radar system, all circuits of transmitter and receiver are to be performed in coherent system. In this paper, we use TWTA(Traveling Wave Tube Amplifier), STALO(Stable Local Oscillator) and COHO(Coherent Oscillator) to design of coherent radar transceiver, and calculates noise figure of designed receiver. Using radar equation calculated noise figure, maximum detecting range of each transmitting mode can be calculated.

  • In this paper, a novel circuit topology of a low-noise amplifier tunable at 1.8GHz band for PCS and 2.4GHz band for WLAN using a CMOS active inductor is proposed. This circuit topology to reduce higher noise figure of the low noise amplifier with the CMOS active load is analyzed. Furthermore, the noise canceling technique is adopted to reduce more the noise figure. The noise figure of the proposed circuit topology is analyzed and simulated in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process technology. Thus, the simulation results exhibit that the noise performance enhancement of the tunable low noise amplifier is about 3.4dB, which is mainly due to the proposed new circuit topology.

  • This paper presents millimeter wave monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) low noise amplifiers using a $0.15{\mu}m$ commercial pHEMT process. After carefully investigating design considerations for millimeter-wave applications, with emphasis on the active device model and electomagnetic (EM) simulation, we designed two single-ended low noise amplifiers, one for Q-band and one for V-band. The Q-band two stage amplifier showed an average noise figure of 2.2 dB with an 18.3 dB average gain at 44 GHz. The V-band two stage amplifier showed an average noise figure of 2.9 dB with a 14.7 dB average gain at 65 GHz. Our design technique and model demonstrates good agreement between measured and predicted results. Compared with the published data, this work also presents state-of-the-art performance in terms of the gain and noise figure.

  • In the present work, the effect of the gate-to-drain capacitance ($C_{gd}$) on the noise performance of a symmetric tied-gate $In_{0.52}Al_{0.48}As/In_{0.53}Ga_{0.47}As$ double-gate HEMT is studied using an accurate charge control based approach. An analytical expression for the gate-to-drain capacitance is obtained. In terms of the intrinsic noise sources and the admittance parameters ($Y_{11}$ and $Y_{21}$ which are obtained incorporating the effect of $C_{gd}$), the various noise performance parameters including the Minimum noise figure and the Minimum Noise Temperature are evaluated. The inclusion of gate-to-drain capacitance is observed to cause significant reduction in the Minimum Noise figure and Minimum Noise Temperature especially at low values of drain voltage, thereby, predicting better noise performance for the device.

  • A Ka Band 3-stage MMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits) LNA(Low Noise Amplifiers) has been designed. The MMIC LNA consists of two single-ended type amplication stapes and one balanced type amplication stage to satisfy noise figure characteristics and high gain and amplitude linearity. The 0.15um pHEMT has been used to provide a ultra low noise figure and high gain amplification. Series and Shunt feedback circuits were inserted to ensure high stability over frequency range of DC to 80 GHz. The size of designed MMIC LNA is 3100mm ${\times}$ 2400um(7.44$\textrm{mm}^2$). The on wafer measured noise figure of the MMIC LNA is less than 2.0 dB over frequency range of 22 GHz to 30 GHz.
