  • This paper exploits how vortex noise is generated around a cylinder. This is done by utilizing an acoustic holography. In this experiment. compressed air was Infected to tile cylinder through a hose. Therefore, major noise sources were at a hose end as well as around the cylinder: vortex shedding noise. The holography results show a resultant noise picture there it is not easy to clearly sort out the shedding noise and what is generated at the end of the tube. We attempted to separate those noise by the method we developed : contribution analysis scheme. The method, in fact, was found to be efficient and practical to separate the noise field into independent noise sources. The highlights of the results are. we believe, that lift and drag noise picture are now available. This procedure does not limit its application. therefore we may use this to visualize any noise field that we want to understand.

  • Recent trend of installation of highly efficient and high Power engine in vehicles has increased complaints about exterior noise being made while travelling. To examine the sources of outer noise of vehicles controlled by regulations. using lead wrapping method. Pass-by noise tests have been conducted as opening each defined source one by one. The sources of outer noise have been found and the rate of noise contribution has been produced. The results of the tests have been applied to put noise-reducing objects in the order, and counter plans effective to reduce noise have been devised.

  • Modal participation factor (MPF) is a widely used in a mode-coupling squeal noise problem for finding the most sensitive component over a complex brake system in a vehicle using eigenvectors of sub-components. This methodology requires the problematic total response of system by the unstable squeal noise at a specific frequency as well as eigenvectors of each component belonging to brake system. In this paper, a unit-force response analysis is performed for intact total system to obtain eigenvectors of each component and then such data is directly used for the contribution analysis of a squeal noise problem. Since the eigenvectors of each component induced from virtual unit-excitation is most reliable owing to the intact boundary condition, it can be expected that the corresponding contribution analysis with MPF also provides a trustworthy result.

  • The procedure to estimate the sources of noise and vibrations in a typical drum-type washing machine was presented. The sources should be identified to predict the radiated noise with computational model of structure. Source identification techniques based on singular decomposition were implemented using the measured signals of accelerometers and microphones. The finite element analysis and indirect boundary element analysis were implemented to predict the structural vibrations and the acoustic pressures at the field points. The predicted results by only structural sources were compared with those by both structural and acoustical sources. It was verified that not only the structural-borne source but also air-borne source should be considered to predict the radiated noise with better accuracy. The contribution analysis with respect to the transfer path was also preformed.

  • Vehicle interior noise has become increasingly important in this recent years. The noise of a vehicle is one of the important problems in a vehicle design. The interior noise is caused by various vibration sources of vehicle compartment. The booming noise of a vehicle can be significantly affected by vibrations transmitted from engine excitation forces to the vehicle body. Specially, we are interested in the state of transmission paths such as engine mounts to reduce noise in a vehicle compartment. In this paper, we have been calculated the contribution of each transmission path such as engine mounts to interior noise. To identify contribution of each input sources and transmission paths to output, the effectiveness of each input component to output is calculated. Sensitivity analysis is carried out for investigation of contribution to output due to input variations. With the simulation of magnitude and phase change of inputs using vector synthesis diagram, the trends of synthesized output vector are obtained. As a result, we suggested sensitivity analysis of vector synthesis as a technique of prediction and control for noise in a vehicle compartment.

  • Pantograph aerodynamic noise is a major cause of noise that occurs when a train is traveling at high speeds. In this study, in order to analyze the contribution of pantograph aerodynamic noise, real train tests using HEMU-430X were carried out. In order to analyze the frequency characteristic of the noise of the pantograph in an actual vehicle, a sound field visualization has been carried out using a 144-channel microphone array at train speeds of 350 and 400km/h. As a result, it was confirmed that the low frequency noise in the 250~400Hz bandwidth provides the main contribution to the pantograph noise. And, in order to estimate the noise contribution of the pantograph, the noise level difference between cases in which the pantograph is ascending and those in which it is descending were compared in single microphone experiments. The frequency analysis in the single microphone tests showed that the bands of 315~400Hz and 1000~1250Hz are the main frequency characteristics of pantograph noise. These results show quite good agreement with those of previous studies and with results of sound field visualization.

  • The radiated noise of the excavator is composed of the various noise sources such as the diesel engine, cooling fan and hydraulic system, so the noise reduction for each noise source is required. In this study, the source contribution analysis for these principal noise sources is performed by using the noise source removal method. And to reduce the noise due to each one, the various experiments and analyses are studied. On the basis of these results, the proper reduction countermeasures are derived to develop the excavator satisfied the $2^{nd}$ noise regulation of EU.

  • The well-developed noise separatrion techniques are applied to the V8 RG8 Diesel engine for the engine noise reduction of a commercial vehicle. For various loads and engine RPM's, the contribution of the combustion oriented noise and the mechanically induced noise was calculated under the small variations of the injection timing. For the given Diesel engine the mechanical noise is dominant for low rpm, and the contribution of the combustion noise becomes greater as the rpm increases. The combustion noise is dominant around 2kHz range or under 50% loading condition.

  • Noise reduction of vacuum cleaner is important, according as get into standard that estimate quality of product. To reduce noise of vacuum cleaner, we need analysis of correct noise source and contribution grasping about Identified noise sources' output noise. Because noise sources' correlation exists in vacuum cleaner that is small and complicated system, analysis is not easy. In this case, we need to apply Multi-dimensional spectral analysis(MDSA) method that can remove correlation between noise sources and grasp pure contribution degree of noise sources. In this study, we take transfer path analysis between output noise and noise that measured in inside/outside of vacuum cleaner.

  • Engine Noise is composed of the mechanical and combustion noise. The contribution of combustion noise is generally bigger than the contribution of the mechanical noise at idle condition in DI diesel engine. That noise usually makes a roughness problem at the fundamental engine order. It is difficult to remove the modulation frequency so we have to directly reduce the combustion noise. The key effect of combustion noise reducing solution is the modification of the combustion pressure profile. It is accomplished by the multiple injection method and we solved the 400Hz combustion noise and improved the sound quality at idle condition in DI diesel engine.
