  • Many poeple has been engaged in industry is aware of the dangers from exposure to high intensity nose levels. The exposure to high intensity noise is encountered in a large number of situations. Laws governing the safety and health of employed people being to create a suitable working environment and eliminate unsafety practices and processes. Work areas should be designed and laid out so that they are satisfactory both from the environmental and safety points of view. In this connection safety also implies that noise is kept at a level which is not likety to cause hearing damage. This study was performed to measure the noise of press and assembly process in an automobile factory. and suggested the method of noise control. Consequently the effect ways of reducing level in working environment are as follows; 1. Changes to machines which would reduce noise generation. 2. Alteration of equipment to avoid impact in machinery and handing materials. 3. Enclosure of noisy machines or machine parts. 4. Mounting of attenuators on gas and air outlets as well as ventilation ducts. 5. Erection of sound absorbing screens. linings. and baffles in work areas. 6. • According to the advanced study, Increase of ceiling air space could cause increase of floor impact sound by air-spring effect. So in this research, we studied the increase of floor impact sound caused by ceiling air space in apartment buildings. At first, we evaluated the change of floor impact noise in the condition of with or without ceiling air-space. And then we installed perforated ceiling systems and glass wool at ceiling area. we expected that perforated ceiling systems could prevent air-spring effect in ceiling space. As a result, ceiling air space caused increasement of floor heavy impact noise about 2~4dB. But perforated ceiling & sound-absorbing materials system could give us reduction of heavy floor impact noise about 3dB. So this systems could be a good alternative to obey national regulations, because it can reduce heavy impact noise additional to floating floor systems.

  • The present study is a preliminary research improving the dwelling quality of one-room type multi-family housings around the university campus. The purpose of the study is to investigate the present condition of Indoor noise level using · residents' responses and field measurements. The respondents are 104 residents living in one-room type multi-family housings. The field measurements on equivalent noise level of indoor and outdoor were carried out in 6 subject house units during the $26th\~28th$ of November 2002. The results are as follows. 1) The residents show relatively non-positive responses at evening and night on the present condition of indoor noise. 2) They answer 'living equipment foise' and 'water hammer' as major types of indoor noise of house unit. 3) Outdoor noise levels, basic factor of noise environment in 6 subject buildings were distributed $52.8\~65.3dB(A)Leq_{5min}$ and were inappropriate to the standard for environmental noise, $55 dB(A)Leq_{5min}$. 4) Indoor noise levels of subject house units were measured as $27.5\~63.5dB(A)Leq_{5min}$, the average of each house unit except one house unit was higher than the level feeling as noise, 40dB(A). 5) It was found that the differences of indoor noise levels between subject house units were caused by 'residents' living noise', 'living equipment noise', 'water hammer', and 'walking and talking noise in stairs and corridors'. 6) Therefore, it is required to plan for improving the quality of noise environment in one-room type multi-family housing around the campus. For example, soundproof construction (including double window with pair glass and balcony), outdoor garden with trees and water for increasing natural sound, interior materials with sound absorbing power to absorb living noise, soundproof pipe or double surface pipe for decreasing 'water hammer', and noiseproof floors, etc. are required.

  • Recently many studies to reduce the noise of dental hand piece which generate inevitably mechanical sound to offend to the ear of a patient have been spotlighted. Generally, methods of adding a sound absorbing material inside the exhaust valve, air pump of machine or automobile are widely reported as optimal way to reduce the mechanical noise. In this paper we studied a new UV laser aided manufacturing of micro-porous structure of EPP substrate and applied dental hand piece to improve the efficiency of sound absorption. A lot of micro-sized pores were fabricated with UV laser processing on the surface of sliced EPP substrate. From fundamental experiments, more high-performance of micro-porous EPP substrate has finally demonstrated for sound-absorbing structure of the micro muffler inside dental hand piece, which actually has the excellent potential to apply a lot of potable machine.

  • Engine enclosures are widely adopted to reduce the noise emission in various fields of application. The radiated noise, which is due to the vibration of enclosure's outer surface, is composed of two kinds of sound power with different path of propagation. One is the 'structure-borne sound power' which stems from the engine's vibratory force applied to the structure of enclosure through the mounting parts of engine etc., while the other is the 'air-borne sound power' which is originated by the sound power radiated from the engine surface to the inner space of enclosure that should excite the vibration of enclosure from inside. In order to get a most efficient engine enclosure is required a profound consideration upon the above structure-borne and air-borne noise, since the guiding principle of countermeasure for each noise is quite different. The controlling of input vibration and its isolation are major subject for the structure-borne sound power and the specifications of absorbing member and damping panels are the major interests for the air-borne sound power. Hence it seems very efficient to separate the total sound power into two categories with a great accuracy when one think of further reduction of engine noise from the exciting enclosure, however, its separating methods have not been made clear for many years. Then author proposes a new practical separation method of two propagation path's contribution to the total radiation sound power for the enclosure under the engine operating condition.

  • In this Paper, reduction of noise and vibration in ship cabins by using floating floor is studied. Two theoretical models are presented and predicted insertion losses of floating floor are compared to experimental results, where measurements have been done in mock-up built for simulating typical ship cabin structures. In ships, mineral wool is usually used as the impact absorbing materials. The first model (M-S-Plate Model) is that upper plate and mineral wool are assumed as a one-dimensional mass-spring system, which is in turn attached to the simply supported elastic floor. The second model (Wave-Plate Model) is that mineral wool is assumed as an elastic medium for wave propagation. The comparisons show that M-S-Plate model is in good agreement with experimental results when density of mineral wool is 140K, and fiber direction is horizontal. For higher density and vertical fiber direction, Wave-Plate model shows good agreements with measurements. It is found that including the elastic behavior of the floor is essential in improving accuracy of the prediction for low frequency ranges below $100{sim}200Hz$.
