  • Existing multipath routing mechanism has much overhead to maintain the state of nodes on the multipath route and does not guarantees completely disjoint multipath construction from source to destination. In this paper, we propose an Explicit Disjoint Multipath (EDM) routing algorithm to enhance energy efficiency through removing the flooding mechanism for route discovery process, minimizing the number of nodes participating in route update and balancing the traffic load for entire network. EDM constructs logical pipelines which can create disjoint multipaths in logical way. Then it physically performs anchor node based geographic routing along the logical pipeline in order to build multipath to the destination. EDM can provide the distribution effect of traffic load over the network, help to balance the energy consumption and therefore extend the network lifetime.

  • Security is a significant concern for many sensor network applications. Intrusion detection is one method of defending against attacks. However, standard intrusion detection techniques are not suitable for sensor networks with limited resources. In this paper, propose a new method for selecting and managing the detect nodes in IDS(intrusion detection system) for anomaly detection in sensor networks and the node scheduling technique for maximizing the IDS's lifetime. Using the genetic algorithm, developed the solutions for suggested optimization equation and verify the effectiveness of proposed methods by simulations.

  • Recently, the use of wireless body area networks (WBAN) has been increasing rapidly in medical healthcare applications. WBANs consist of smart nodes that can be used to sense and transmit vital data such as heart rate, temperature and ECG from a human body to a medical centre. WBANs depend on limited resources such as energy and bandwidth. In order to utilise these resources efficiently, a very well organized medium access control (MAC) protocol must be considered. In this paper, a new, adaptive and energy-efficient MAC protocol, entitled isMAC, is proposed for WBANs. The proposed MAC is based on multi-channel communication and aims to prolong the network lifetime by effectively employing (i) a collision prevention mechanism, (ii) a coordinator node (WCN) selection algorithm and (iii) a transmission power adjustment approach. The isMAC protocol has been developed and modelled, by using OPNET Modeler simulation software. It is based on a networking scenario that requires especially high data rates such as ECG, for performance evaluation purposes. Packet delay, network throughput and energy consumption have been chosen as performance metrics. The comparison between the simulation results of isMAC and classical IEEE 802.15.4 (ZigBee) protocol shows that isMAC significantly outperforms IEEE 802.15.4 in terms of packet delay, throughput and energy consumption.

  • The design goal of protocols in wireless sensor networks (WSN) is mainly energy efficiency because of their stringent resource and energy constraints. In this paper, we propose a simple cross-layered protocol for WSNs, so called EATD(Energy-Aware Tree based Delivery scheme). EATD is a tree-based energy aware data delivery algorithm by using a SYNC packet with link and node cost to maximize the network lifetime. Our simulation results show significant improvements compared with existing schemes in terms of energy efficiency and delay.

  • It has become ever harder to design reliable circuits with each nanometer technology node; under normal operation conditions, a transistor device can be affected by various aging effects resulting in performance degradation and eventually design failure. The reliability (aging) effect has traditionally been the area of process engineers. However, in the future, even the smallest of variations can slow down a transistor's switching speed, and an aging device may not perform adequately at a very low voltage. Therefore, circuit designers need to consider these reliability effects in the early stages of design to make sure there are enough margins for circuits to function correctly over their entire lifetime. However, such an approach excessively increases the size and power dissipation of a system. As the impact of reliability, new techniques in designing aging-resilient circuits are necessary to reduce the impact of the aging stresses on performance, power, and yield or to predict the failure of a system. Therefore, in this paper, a novel low power on-chip self-tuning circuit considering the aging effects has been proposed.

  • One inevitable problem in Ad Hoc networks is the limited battery capacity, which explains why portable devices might shut down suddenly when the power of hardware is depleted. Hence, how to decrease the power consumption is an important issue in ad hoc networks. With the development of wireless technology, mobile devices can transmit voices, surf the Internet, download entertaining stuffs, and even support some P2P applications, like sharing real-time streaming. In order to keep the quality stable, the transmission must be continuous and it is thus necessary to select some managers to coordinate all nodes in a P2P community. In addition to assigning jobs to the staffs (children) when needed, these managers (ancestors) are able to reappoint jobs in advance when employees retire. This paper proposed a mechanism called Cluster-based Power Management (CPM) to stabilize the transmissions and increase Time to Live (TTL) of mobile hosts. In our new proposed method, we establish the clusters according to every node's joining order and capability, and adjust their sleep time dynamically through three different mathematical models. Our simulation results reveal that this proposed scheme not only reduces the power consumption efficiently, but also increases the total TTLs evidently.

  • The energy efficiency is a key design issue to improve the lifetime of the underwater sensor networks (UWSN) consisting of sensor nodes equipped with a small battery of limited energy resource. In this paper, we apply a hexagon tessellation with an ideal cell size to deploy the underwater sensor nodes for two-dimensional UWSN. Upon this setting, we propose an enhanced hybrid transmission method that forwards data packets in a mixed transmission way based on location dependent direct transmitting or uniform multi-hop forwarding. In order to select direct transmitting or uniform multi-hop forwarding, the proposed method applies the threshold annulus that is defined as the distance between the cluster head node and the base station (BS). Our simulation results show that the proposed method enhances the energy efficiency compared with the existing multi-hop forwarding methods and hybrid transmission methods

  • Clustering is a topology control approach often used in wireless ad hoc networks to improve scalability and prolong network lifetime. Furthermore, it is also employed to provide semi-management functionalities and capacity enhancement. The usage of clustering topology control technique can also be applied to multi-radio wireless mesh network. This would utilize the advantages of the multi-radio implementation in the network. The aggregation would result to a more stable, connected, scalable and energy-efficient network. On this paper, we design a clustering algorithm for multi-radio wireless mesh network that would use these advantages and would take into consideration both mobility and heterogeneity of the network entities. We also show that the algorithm terminates at a definite time t and the message control overhead complexity is of constant order of O(1) per node.

  • The sensor networks should be appropriately designed by applied network purpose, so that they can support proper application functions. Based on the design of suitable network model, the network lifetime can be maximized than using other general strategies which have not the consideration of specific network environments. In this paper, we propose a non-deterministic agent scheme to the mobile sink in distributed wireless sensor networks. The sensor network area can be divided into several sensor regions. Hence, to these such networks, the specified suitable scheme is requested by the applied network model to implement satisfactory network management. In this paper, we theoretically represent the proposed scheme, and provide the evaluation with the simulation results.

  • To increase the lifetime of the network in wireless sensor networks, energy harvesting from the surrounding environment or wireless power transfer is being used. In addition, to reduce the energy imbalance and increase the amount of data gathered, a method using mobile sink nodes that visit sensor nodes to gather data has been used. In this paper, we propose a technique to reduce the load on the relay node and collect a lot of data evenly in this environment. In the proposed scheme, sensor nodes construct Minimum Depth Trees (MDTs) considering the network environment and energy, and allocate the data collection amount. Simulation results show that the proposed technique effectively suppresses energy depletion and collects more data compared to existing techniques.
