This study was conducted in order to elucidate the effects of nitrogen level and split application method, and shading treatment during reproductive stage on sink formation. Japonica variety Choocheongbyeo and Hwaseongbyeo and indica$\times$japonica cross type variety Nampoongbyeo were used. Five levels (6 to 30 kg/10a at 6 kg/10a interval) of nitrogen fertilization, and two split application methods (50-25-25% and 30-30-40% as basaltillering-panicle fertilizer) for each nitrogen treatment were applied. In addition shading treatments (shading rate, 65%) were performed for N 12 kg/10a and 24 kg/10a plot. Shading were applied for 30 days from panicle initiation to heading, 15 days from panicle initiation and 15days before heading. Panicle per square meter, and primary rachis branches per panicle and differentiated number of secondary branch per panicle increased according as applied nitrogen amount increased up to 18 to 24 kg/10a, and there was no significant difference between two nitrogen application methods. Primary rachis branch and secondary branch per square meter also increased according as the amount of applied nitrogen increase up to 18 to 24 kg/10a, and there was no significant difference between nitrogen application methods. Panicle per square meter and primary rachis branch per panicle were significantly decreased due to shading treatments only in Choochengbyeo. In all varieties, shading reduced secondary rachis branch per panicle significantly and the reduction was greatest in 30 days shading during reproductive stage. Spikelets per square meter increased according as the amount of applied nitrogen increases up to 18 to 24kg/10a, but showed no move increase above this nitrogen application level. Significant difference was not shown between nitrogen split methods. Spikelets per square meter also decreased significantly due to shading treatment during reproductive stage, showing the greatest reduction by 30 days shading during reproductive stage, and the least by 15 days shading during booting stage. The variation of spikelets per square meter was influenced greatest by the variation of panicles per square meter and spikelets per secondary rachis branch.

Recently, wheat consumption has been increasing in Korea, requiring increased production. Nitrogen fertilization is a critical determinant in crop yield; therefore, it is necessary to optimize the nitrogen fertilization regime with current trends that emphasize the minimum impact of nitrogen fertilizer on the environment. In this study, both nondestructive spectral analysis using a hyperspectral camera and growth analysis were performed to determine the optimal N top-dressing rates after heading. The nitrogen application regimes consisted of three conditions according to the secondary top-dressing rate: N4:3:0 (0 kg 10 a-1), N4:3:3 (2.73 kg 10 a-1), and N4:3:6 (5.46 kg 10 a-1). Subsequently, growth and physiological investigations were performed at the jointing, heading, and ripening stages of wheat, and spectral investigations were conducted. On April 29, as the nitrogen fertilization rate was increased to N4:3:3 and N4:3:6, plant height and grain yield increased by 4% and 8%, and 8% and 52%, respectively, compared to those under N4:3:0. Leaf area index and SPAD value also increased by 13% and 24%, and 32% and 43%, respectively. The R (red), G (green), and B (blue) of leaf color were lowered by 15, 11, and 4 in N4:3:3 and 44, 34, and 18 in N4:3:6, respectively, as compared to the control. Grain yield was the highest at high top-dressing (N4:3:6), however, there was no difference between no top-dressing (N4:3:0) and intermediat top-dressing (N4:3:3). The reflectance analyzed using a hyperspectral camera showed a difference in the near-infrared (NIR) region on March 19, and on April 29, there was a difference both in the visible light region greater than 550 nm and the NIR region. Vegetation indices differed according to fertilization regime, except for the greenness index (GI). The results of this study showed that not only growth and physiological analysis but also spectral indices can be used to optimize the nitrogen top-dressing rate.
To elucidate the effect of Amo-1618(4-hydroxyl-5-isopropyl-2-methlphenyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, 1-piperidine carboxylate) known as a kind of growth retardant, on the growth, grain yield, increasing the efficiency of nitrogen fertilizer, behavior of mineral nutritions and the rate of phosphorus utilization, this experiment was conducted pot culture method in a vinyl house. Two nitrogen level, namely, practical nitrogen level(1 N) and three times nitrogen level(3 N) was made and labelled double-calcium-superphosphate $Ca(H_2P^{32}O_4)_2.\;2H_2O)$ as a source of radioactive phosphorus(P-32) was employed $80\;{\mu}c/pot$, respectively. Rice seedlings, variety 'Suwon No. 82', was transplanted to a 1/50,000 a china pot on June 13 in 1968. For treatment, at early stage of tillering, 10,000 ppm solution of Amo-1618 was foliar sprayed only one time. The Duncan's new mutiple-range test was adopted for statistical analysis evaluating experimental data at 5% level significance. The results obtained may be summarized as follows; 1) No significant difference was found among the treatments in plant height, but in plot of Amo-1618 treatment and 3 N level, number of tillers was significantly increased than that of others. 2) Weight of 10,000 kernels and seed-setting rate was also remarkably increased in same treatment above. 3) Grain yield per pot was significantly increased in Amo-1618 and 3 N level application. This results seemed to be due to the increased the factors on the yield. 4) Contents of nitrogen and phosphorus per cent in the grain was likewise increased in Amo-1618 and 3 N application. There is, however, no difference among treatments in the content of nitrogen and phosphorus in the leaves and culms of rice plants. 5) On the other hand, the contents of potassium and magnesium, no distinctly tendeny showed among treatments. 6) The rate of phosphorus utilization was significantly increased in the plot of Amo-1618 and 3 N application.
Lysimeter experiments were carried out to study the vertical distribution of inorganic nitrogen, the changes in pHs of soil and leachate and the fate of applied nitrogen with or without grass. The concentration of $NO_3-N$ of surface soil(0~20cm) at the rates of 0, 7, 14 and 21kg N/10a ranged from 4 to 13mg/kg, while those of subsurface soi1(20-40cm) were below 10mg/kg at 0, 7 and 14kg N/10a and subsequently increased to 83.8mg/kg at 35kg N/10a. The concentration of $NH_4{^+}-N$ was positively correlated with that of $NO_3-N$ for surface soil(>0.05). However, the concentration of $NH_4{^+}-N$ was negatively correlated with that of $NO_3-N$ for subsurface soil. A positive correlation was observed between $NO_3-N$ and extractable cations of soils. The pH of subsurface soil decreased with the $NO_3-N$ concentration and the N application rate, while that of leachate inereased with the N application rate. The pH differences between subsurface soil and leachate were 2.5 for bare soil and 3.1 for 35kg N/10a. Higher N application rate caused more soil N accumulation and the gas loss and resulted in a larger difference between N uptake by grass and the applied N.
This study was carried out to investigate the effects of the complex fertilizers containing polyaspartic acid (PAA) on growth and $CH_4$ emission in rice field and optimum application rate of the fertilizer compared to the standard recommended application rate (control). The PAA-containing complex fertilizers (PCF) were applied at 55, 65 and 75% levels of standard recommended application rate (control). The application rate of PAA in the plot of every PCF treatment was 150g ai/10a. The PCF was applied as a basal dressing without topdressing at tillering stage. The growth parameters of rice and its nitrogen use efficiency treated with PCF at a 65 to 75% level were not different compared with those of control, and the rice yield was also not significantly different between PCF at a 65 to 75% level and control during 2 years(2010~2011) field experiment. And the $NH_4$-N content in soil was not affected by 65% to 75% level of PCF treatment. Considering overall research results such as rice yield and growth parameters PCF is not significantly different with the control and the optimum application rate of the PCF as a basal fertilization was determined to be 65~75% of the standard application rate based on the result in rice cultivation. Moreover, $CH_4$ emission rate was significantly reduced by PCF treatments, showing 216 kg and 229 kg $CH_4/ha$ at 65% and 75% PCF treatment level, respectively, compared to 266 kg $CH_4/ha$ of the control.
This study was conducted to find out the optimum cropping system for the stable production of forage crops in the newly reclaimed land located at Gwanghwal region of Saemangum reclaimed land in which the soil is sandy loam (Munpo series). There were two treatments of nitrogen fertilization 20% increment based on the standard fertilization of 150, $200kg\;ha^{-1}$. Whole crop barley as the winter crop sowed on 27 October. After the whole crop barley was harvested at the end of May. Corn and sorghum${\times}$sudangrass as the summer crop sowed at the early of June successively on the same field. Emergence rate the whole crop barley was high while the summer crops were low. Soil salinity was increased during cultivation of summer crops. However, corn and sorghum${\times}$sudangrass were not damaged by salt. Increase of nitrogen fertilization made the growth of cultivation crops good, stem and leaf tended to have a lot of the mineral nutrients at heading stage and silking stage. After experiment, among soil chemical properties pH, content of exchangeable sodium were decreased and content of organic matter, available phosphate were increased. Dry matter yield were showed whole crop barley $13,170kg\;ha^{-1}$ and sorghum${\times}$sudangrass $19,440kg\;ha^{-1}$ by increment of nitrogen fertilization. Therefore, to improve the product and nutrient balance of reclaimed saline land comprehensive soil management should be considered.
Eeffect of temperature (3-day or 7-day treatment under $15^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$) on chlorophyll, nitrogen and potassium content in the second leaf blade from top of IR667 line (Suwon 213 and 214) and leading local varieties (Jinheung and Paldal) was investigated at the end of nursery, maximum tillering and flowering stage using phytotron. 1. Chlorophyll content was higher in IR667 line than in the local at $25^{\circ}C$ but reversed at $20^{\circ}C$ or $15^{\circ}C$ and chlorophyll a/b value was always high in the local. 2. Chlorophyll content per fresh weight decreased with growth and low temperature effect was greater at the end of nursery and on chlorophyll a than on chlorophyll b. 3. Chlorophyll a/b value increases with the increase of chlorophyll content and the increasing rate of chl. a/b value per chlorophyll increment tends to decrease under unfavorable condition. This decrease is greater in low temperature sensitive IR667 than local varieties. 4. According to chlorophyll retention value IR667 line was weaker at low temperature. 5. The content of total nitrogen or soluble nitrogen (methanol soluble) was decreased by low temperature. 6. Chl. (a+b)/S-N value decreased with growth and seemed not to be greatly affected by temperature and always higher in the local. 7. Potassium content (total or methanol soluble) tends to decrease at low temperature and soluble K increased with chlorophyll content. 8. High yielding ability of IR667 seems to be attributable to its high chlorophyll content at high temperature and easy leaf discoloration by low temperature or by nitrogen depression of IR667 seems to be attributable to the low Chl./S-N value.
'Cheonghaejinmi' is a new japonica rice variety developed from three-way cross between Samjiyeon/SR14694-57-4-2-1-3-2-2//Iri402 by the rice breeding team of National Institute of Crop Science, RDA. Heading date of this variety is August 18, 4 days later than that of 'Sobibyeo' in middle plain areas. It has culm length of 78 cm, 125 spikelets per panicle, 92.5% of ripened grain rate, and 23.9 g of 1000-brown rice weight. It showed 12 days of heading delay, and 63% spikelet fertility in cold-water irrigation stress. 'Cheonghaejinmi' is susceptible to blast disease, bacterial blight, virus diseases and plant hoppers. The nitrogen use efficiency of this variety is higher than that of Sobibyeo in low nitrogen application level. Milled rice of 'Cheonghaejinmi' exhibits translucent, clear non-glutinous endosperm and medium short grain. It has 5.9% protein content, 20.3% amylose content, and 0.28 palatability index of cooked rice compared to -0.11 of Hwaseongbyeo. The milled rice yield of 'Cheonghaejinmi' was about 5.31 MT/ha at low nitrogen application level of ordinary season culture. This variety had 98.8% whole grain in milled rice and 76% milling recovery of whole grain. 'Cheonghaejinmi' would be adaptable to middle plain areas and middle-western coastal areas in Korea.

To elucidate the pattern of nutrient absorption and endosperm consumption as the seedling age of rice, Dongjinbyeo was raised in the seedling box with different nitrogen levels. Absorption of nitrogen and phosphorus were high in the order of artificial seed bed soil, sand with N-1g /box and sand without N from 3 and 5 days after seeding but, potassium wasn't significantly different between sand+N-1g /box and sand. Endosperm consumption rate was high in the order of artificial seed bed soil, sand + N-1g /box and sand but, endosperm dependence rate (endosperm consumption /top dry weight) was vice versa. Seedling height and dry weight were higher in the order of artificial seed bed soil, sand+N-1g /box and sand from 3 days after seeding, number of leaves were more from 5 days after seeding in same order.

To evaluate the application level of expeller cake fertilizer (ECF), we have investigated soil chemical properties, leaf mineral contents and yield of red mustard in plastic film greenhouse. Four levels of fertilizer were applied as 50% (ECF 50), 75% (ECF 75), 100% (ECF 100) and 150% (ECF 150) by base $1,848kg\;kg^{-1}$ of ECF. In 2010, red mustard was planted on April 28 in silt loam soil and harvested on July 7. Commerical yields were measured 12 times from May 14 to July 7. Electrical conductivity ($3.40{\sim}3.54dS\;m^{-1}$), available $P_2O_5$ ($580{\sim}618mg\;kg^{-1}$) and exchangeable cations ($K^+$, $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$) were tended to increase by the application of ECF. However, the range of those was not so big increasing amount. The content of T-N, K, Ca and P of red mustard leaves was $63.2{\sim}66.4g\;kg^{-1}$, $55.1{\sim}56.4g\;kg^{-1}$, $8.6{\sim}9.5g\;kg^{-1}$ and $5.7{\sim}6.3g\;kg^{-1}$, respectively. The nitrogen utilization rate of red mustard was 38~52%, and it was decreased with increased application of ECF. The yield of red mustard was 13,670 to $14,460kg\;ha^{-1}$ on the basis of application amount of ECF and the yield did not increased in spite of increased ECF. The optimum dose of application of ECF for cultivation of red mustard was from $924kg\;ha^{-1}$ (ECF 50) to $1,386kg\;ha^{-1}$ (ECF 75). Environment-friendly and economical amount of applied fertilizer is more important than yield for cultivation of red mustard.
