A total of 19 of the previously unreported species were collected in soil samples from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), while 13 species were collected from soil samples from the Republic of Korea (ROK). Only two species were found in both the DPRK and the ROK. Illustrations and short descriptions for previously unreported species provided.

  • This study was carried out to investigate Korean native trees in the America landscape through arboretums, the plant inventory of America, computer files for accessions from Korea, source lists of plants and seeds, and seed and plant nursery company. The results were as follows; 1. Korean native trees introduced in America and Canada were 119 species, 116 species were being cultivated in arbrids were being sold in nurseries, new cultivars were selected from 32 species, and hybrids were bred from 5 species. 2. Abies koreana, Malus baccata, and Stewartia koreana were being cultivated in many arboretums and sold in many nurseries. Also there were new hybrids as well as new cultivars. 3. 25 species including Albizzia julibrissin were being cultivated in many arboretums and sold in many nurseries. Also there were new hybrids. 4. Ilex integra and Ilex rotunda were being cultivated in many arboretums and sold in many nurseries. There were no new cultivars, but there were new hybrids. 5. 44 species including Abies holophylla were being cultivated in many arboretums and sold in many nurseries. There were no new cultivars or hybrids. 6. Populus tremula var. davidiana was being cultivated in many arboretums. There were new cultivars of 'Erecta', 'Gigas', 'Pendula', but no new hybrids. They were not sold by any nurseries. 7. 41 species including Abies nephrolepsis were being cultivated in many arboretums. But they were not sold by any nurseries. They didn't have any new cultivars or hybrids. 8. Diospyros kaki 'Kyungsan Bansi', Elaeocarpus sylvestris var. ellipticus, and Pyrus serotina 'Dankae' were not being cultivated in arboretums in America but some nurseries were selling those species as well as new cultivars. 9. Only 3 species (Berchemia berchemiaefolia, Carpinus eximia, and Chionanthus retusus var. coreana which are native Korean plants) were not introduced in America or Canada.

  • Acarosporaceae is a crustose lichen and is known as a species that has more than 50 multispores, and has hyaline spores. Those taxa are often found in rock and soil in mountain areas or coastal regions in Korea, and very diverse forms and species are known. However, after an overall genetic phylogenetic analysis of carbonized ascomata in 2015, species consisting only of the morphological base are newly divided, and several species of Acarosporaceae in Korea are also being discovered in this situation. As a result of analysis using internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and nuLSU gene analysis, Korean species belonged to Acarospora and Sarcogyne clade, and Acarospora classified as the Acarospora clade was mixed with the Polysporina group and the Sarcogyne clade is mixed with the Acarospora. We identified two new species (Acarospora beangnokdamensis J. S. Park & S. O. Oh, sp. nov., Sarcogyne jejuensis J. S. Park & S. O. Oh, sp. nov.) through morphological, molecular, and secondary metabolite substance and found one new record (Sarcogyne oceanica K. Knudsen & Kocourk). We have made a classification key for Acarospora and Sarcogyne in Korea and reported all information together here.

  • A new species of gudgeon, Microphysogobio rapidus is described from 25 specimens collected from the Naktong River system, Korea. The new species is similar to Microphysogobio yaluensis but is distinguished from the latter and congeners by the combination of the following characteristics: number of papilla on the upper lip, 4.5 scales above the lateral line, short distance from the anus to the origin of the anal fin, wide scaleless area of the abdomen, nuptial colour consisting of a longitudinal green stripe on the lateral side of the body and bright blue colour of the suborbital region and operculum. A key to the species of Microphysogobio from Korea is also included.

  • Rhyssemus Mulsant, 1842, represents one of the largest genera in the tribe Psammodiini, comprising approximately 170 species to date. This group is nearly cosmopolitan, excluding the Neotropical region, with 59 species recorded in the Palearctic region. On the Korean Peninsula, only one species, Rhyssemus koreanus Stebnicka, 1980 was recorded from North Korea. In this study, the genus Rhyssemus is recorded for the first time with a newly recorded species Rhyssemus inscitus (Walker, 1858) from South Korea. Adult specimens were collected from the costal sand dunes in Taean-gun and Jeju island. We herein provide a diagnosis, illustrations of morphological characters, and habitat information. Partial mitochondrial COI sequences of the species are also provided for DNA barcoding.

  • The genus Chrysothrix is very common around the world and easy to be recognized by its bright yellowish granular thallus. In this study, investigations of lichen mycota in South Korea and Chile from 2010 to 2017 have been done, and some Chrysothrix specimens were collected, based on the morphological and chemical study on these specimens, five species were confirmed in this study, including one new species from Chile, Chrysothrix chilensis D. Liu & J.-S Hur, and one new record from South Korea, C. xanthina (Vain.) Kalb. Meanwhile, detail description and illustration for each species were present in this study.
